Me too OP! Not with the avoiding the quizzes and all that but I didn't ever definitively put myself in a house because I always figured I couldn't objectively place myself, and I didn't think I knew the houses as well as the sorting hat. No scarves or ties for me. (I didn't even line my robes because I had this weird feeling I might have to change it later)

And I'm eagerly looking forward to my Pottermore sorting in Oct. I'll be happy with anything the hat gives me. :)

[identity profile] allstarzs.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Really? You take this way too seriously. Plus other, more in depth sortings are far more accurate than a 7 question quiz.

[identity profile] classic-mold137.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
I got the same house on Pottermore that I did when I took the 125 questions quiz.

Not saying you're wrong, just that the Pottermore quiz isn't completely inaccurate.

I pretty much get the same result on every Sorting quiz. Including the Pottermore one.

[identity profile] fauxkaren.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
I identify a lot more strongly with the house I was sorted into at [community profile] hogwarts_elite than the house a seven question quiz (where some of the questions were like "heads or tails").

[identity profile] frozenish.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
I'm a little confused. How can you claim any of these quizzes are more "accurate" than others? And if you know what's more accurate, then why can't you just head-sort yourself and not have to take any quizzes in the first place?

And really the sorting quiz only needs three questions:

1. Are you evil? y -> Slytherin; n-> go to 2.

2. Are you really studious (and probably a lil boring)? y -> Ravenclaw; "no" and "yes, but I have other personality traits as well" -> go to 3.

3. Are you brave (and kind of a jerk)? y -> Gryffindor; n-> ...And Hufflepuff takes the rest.

OP

(Anonymous) 2011-09-20 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, really. And I didn't say I had refrained from any other Sorting Quizzes since Pottermore, either. I've gotten Gryffindor every time. Every. Time.

I think a lot of people who think other quizzes are "more accurate" either prize qualities in themselves that aren't necessarily truly their most prominent qualities, and that other Sorting quizzes have woefully obvious answers that can be selected to intentionally influence results. To me, that doesn't make a quiz "more accurate" - it makes it a useless waste of time designed to stroke one's ego by telling someone they belong where they aspire to. Just like every other fannish quiz written by teenagers on the Internet.

Also, I only got two questions for which there were only two answers. The rest of my questions had between four and five answers. So no, it's not like I chose "stars," "dawn," "white chess piece" "heads" and "right," ended up in Gryffindor, and was really impressed with myself. I thought for a good ten to twenty minutes on some of my questions, and answered them carefully and truthfully.

Indeed.

[identity profile] helenadax.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
I think a lot of people with two accounts have taken the test and have been sorted in two different Houses.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-20 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't put too much stock in a Sorting Hat quiz that asks 7 vague questions like "Moon or Stars?", "Left or Right?", and "Head or Tails?" regardless of how official said quiz might be.

[identity profile] allstarzs.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Are the questions really that vague? That's rather dissapointing.

Interesting. I've taken a few 'sorting' quizzes, but I've never been all that invested in the results they gave me (and it did vary!) because it's always been so obvious what I would be, were Sorting real.

I have to say though, I've heard that the Pottermore quiz wasn't that great - too short, for one. Do anons who have taken it agree/disagree?

[identity profile] piepeloe.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
It's a bit short, yes. And very...vague. Like, if I had taken that quiz on a different day in a different mood, I might have answered completely differently as well. It's all kind of soul searching and first gut reaction. Also, the questions come with pictures (very pretty ones), but I think that might change people's answers. Just seeing a word or seeing that concept as beautiful art, it matters.

I've pretty much always gotten the same results on those quizzes (with possibly one or two exceptions), and again on Pottermore, and it does feel like the House that would fit best.

da

Yeah, it wasn't all that great, and the short length was a huge factor. Also, moon vs. stars, left vs. right, etc. say nothing about you as a person. Personally I prefer this quiz:

[identity profile] piepeloe.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I've only been part of the fandom since the beginning of this year, so this might not mean much, but I understand. I took the occasional quiz, and wondered about where I'd go, but I never actually 'declared my allegiance'. It's one of the reasons I was so excited when Pottermore came out, because I would finally know. It's also why I don't understand people who made several accounts. You can only get Sorted once. I know it's only a short quiz, and it might be random anyway, but yes, I'm glad I waited.

And my House totally made sense for me: RAVENCLAW!

Btw, OP: where did you meet your housemates? Pottermore doesn't have a chat function, right? Is there an LJ comm or sth? I just friended people I knew from LJ.

OP

Facebook groups! :)

(Anonymous) 2011-09-20 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
lol.

#1: Randomness is obviously a big ol' part of how that particular quiz is written. Hence identical answers coming out as different results in numerous cases of multiple account holders.

#2: Did you miss that one of the big morals of the whole story was choice and autonomy in life decisions, including the Sorting? Did you just... honestly, like, forget to read those parts? I didn't consciously choose to sort myself when I read the books the first time, but it just happened because I knew where I belonged and if Hogwarts was real, I know what I would have asked the Sorting Hat for. But congrats on waiting for an arbitrary quiz and missing eleven years of awesome participatory fandom, I guess?

(Anonymous) 2011-09-20 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
lol

Look at you being all condescending. Does it feel good?

I don't think it was random. A lot of personality tests are intentionally vague so that people will give them the most honest answers. And are these people *sure* they answered identically? How is that possible when there are over 200 possible questions??? They may have answered similar questions, but I assure you, the odds of getting the exact same Sorting quiz over and over, are astronomical. I'm calling bullshit from someone butthurt that they couldn't handpick the house they wanted.

No, I didn't "miss" anything. I just thought it would be special and fun to hold out because I have an enormous amount of willpower. Nor did I ever write anywhere that I didn't feel I could belong anywhere. I see many qualities from all of the Houses in myself because I am a well-rounded person. I simply refrained from declaring an allegiance. Which is what I said. Derp derp.

Reading comrehension: it seems that you fail it more than you realize, yourself, anon. :)

(Anonymous) 2011-09-20 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
It's funny how people complain so much about JK's quiz being "inaccurate". Since you know so much about where you belong just sort yourself and be done with it. :p For the most part I think people tend to misjudge themselves more often than not. That's the flaw with most of these online quizzes. I don't think people can objectively rate themselves. That's why I like how Jo designed her quiz. If more people would just take it as it is and go with the flow of things I bet they'd be having a lot more fun.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I'm almost certain there's some RNG going on with Pottermore to ensure the houses are somewhat even. It would be a hell of a coincidence that the ~400k users already on just happened to fit in each house that's got roughly ~95k students in them...

I got sorted into Gryffindor. While I am loyal, I admit I'm a bit of a jerk sometimes and have been called clever more than a few times in my life. I'm also quite good at finding things online. Basically, I could've "fit" into any one of the houses and I think the same is true for most people.
