Since people pointed out Saturday isn't enough time to see what LJ is doing with this or about this, moved the potential moving date to New Years' - 1/1/2012.

As a note, I'm completely willing to either stay or move. Updating the comm is easy enough for me either way.

2 - For those worried about possibly needing to make DW accounts to comment, if a move happens: you don't need one! OpenID will let you comment as an LJ user (in the same way Facebook users can comment on LJ).

3 - For those worried about missing updates: I can crosspost to LJ to let you know a post is up (with a handy link over to it), I don't mind that (it's like a minute of extra work, no problem) - if the DW move happens though, the comments would be over there.

4 - Apparently, this is what we're getting next year.

5 - I'm aware workarounds are available - but those (or so I hear?) won't stay available for long. Also, those layouts have their own bugs. If someone can actually supply me with workable code that doesn't make long threads unreadable to change the layout, I'll give it a try.

I don't mind the new way of commenting. LJ is just updating everything to keep up with everything else (ie. YouTube and Facebook). Please don't move. I like it here, where it is.

if I wanted YouTube and Facebook or tumblr...I'd go there. I don't want that. I want what LJ used to offer...as of just a few days ago. A place where anons, non-anons, new users and old could interact in a certain way, without all the crap that other sites pile on. This whole thing destroys everything. They should just rename the whole thing to 'Prêt-à-PorterJournal'

I've been a member of LJ since it first opened.

Hell, I remember getting the new disk for AOL on my MacG3 1999...ahhh.

LJ used to listen to it's users. It used to design on input.

Now, well, I have no idea what they are doing. It's a huge F.U. to all users. I feel like they are sticking their tongues out and saying "naahh..we're gonna' do what we want"

They don't listen, don't care.

I've always stood by LJ but this? This whole place has a firm foundation on interactions within comments. How can people screw with the very thing that makes these connetions with people possible.

And the bag over the head icon? Can you be anymore insulting?

In the end I think YOU should do what you think is the right move--this is a big enough deal and an example of LJ blatantly ignoring their userbase and removing functionality/reducing usability that you should be able to do with this comm what you want.

I'm someone who's stuck with LJ since 2001, but these new changes might just about do me in, if for no other reason than the site literally appears to be giving me headaches now. There's something about these comment pages that just starts hurting my eyes when I look at them for more than a minute or two. I'm not saying this should be anyone else's reason, but it may well end up being mine. I haven't decided for sure yet, but... This layout reduces the functionality of the site, for me, past what I consider worth enduring. It isn't a matter of "getting used to it". I'm not going to get used to getting headaches from the site. And that's a shame, and it will make me sad, since LJ's been my blogging home for so very long. But this is one bump I'm not sure I can see through.

So, I'll be happy if F!S moves. If it doesn't, I'll probably still return here to visit it -- but I'll spend a lot less time in the comment threads.

Can we test a post or two on DW so we can compare as we try fandomsecrets on DW instead of imagining how things will differ if we move? I can't really give you a solid vote until then, and I don't think I'm alone. The worst case scenario would be to move and then have a bunch of people cry to move back - all that work for nothing.

For everyone having major functionality issues with the new comment pages (icons not loading, unable to comment, unable to edit, etc.) while running Firefox, disable Greasemonkey if you're running it. It seems that extension is not playing nice with the new code.

if you move, DW is working on some things

Such as a community importer I hear. Also, LJ has RSS feeds. You can easily make an RSS feed for journal content over there and users can add it here. They can stay interested that way. For example, there is a fandom calendar over there that lists events pertaining to fandom. I get updated on my LJ friends list thanks to this feed. http://fan-calendar-dw.livejournal.com/profile

Like you said, people can use their LJ ids when commenting and what have you so I'm all for the move.

It's because of the ways lj changed the comments [no subject line/preview/parent and thread links, etc] are upsetting a lot of people. Plus the new comment layout is giving some people headaches if they look at it too long, and the ljstaff have been pretty insulting in responses to the changes.

So, due to that, this whole thing about moving is going on.

I hope you move to DW because it will help give fandom the kick in the pants it needs to move AWAY from LJ, where we are so obviously not wanted. I'd prefer DW because that's where I've gone but it can always be mirrored there; as long as it's OFF LJ I'm happy. F!S is a huge driving force in fandom and functionality has much less to do with moving than fannish momentum.

AMEN. this this this this. Why keep complaining about the ZOMG SJ TROLLS when if we go over we can *outnumber* them? Holy shit what a concept. If more of fandom moved, less of fandom would be SJT or whatever over there. (Caveat: I've not seen these "trolls," but assuming they exist, this would obviously be the answer.)
