tbh I'm just glad they fridged a guy for once. yeah, yeah, I'm a terrible person.

...though I can't ship Emma/Regina. Regina is just too much of a bitch for that.

...though I can't ship Emma/Regina. Regina is just too much of a bitch for that.

This! I usually enjoy femmeslash, but in this story I just can't. I just don't think the EQ/Regina deserves a "happy" ending, and I don't want her to have any happiness, whether it comes from a dark ship where she has control, or a mutual ship where she and Emma just are so much in love~ ♥, or an ending where she still "wins" because she's managed to bring others down to her level... |D

I'm really relieved I haven't seen that side of the fandom (yet). Maybe I've just been lucky to not run into many Regina/EQ fans.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-13 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
What part of fandom do you hang out in? Because I rarely see that. A lot of people hate Regina, particularly after that episode, especially since the Sheriff is such a popular character.

And yeah I don't see an issue with liking her as long as you know she's evil. But I'm also team Gold.

Ugh, this srsly.

It's all right to like villains without trying to justify their villainy. B|

Though I think she's a pretty weak villain. She's like a child throwing a tantrum rather than a villain of any real substance and it's ruining her for me just as much as the obnoxious fans who try and woobie her up and make her sympathetic despite all she's done.

Sometimes people's only joking when they do that kind of comments. Anyway, justifying her actions is something I don't understand. Of course she has her twisted reasons to do what she does, but that doesn't mean she's right. And I say that as someone who really loves to hate her.

[identity profile] ladylothwen.livejournal.com 2012-01-13 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
I hear you OP. I hate the Tumblr tags for this very reason (among other things) and most recently one of the LJ comms had a lovely little Cinderella victim blaming post. I get that it's a new show and it hasn't found it's legs but come on. The amount of Emma hate I've seen along with the Regina and Mr. Gold ass kissing bothers me. As fascinating as they are the excusing of their actions chaps my ass.

I was liking Graham/Regina until that episode. It was like damn, wtf, isn't this a family show?

Still hoping she turns out a little more morally complex than evil evil evil. But this show has been crushing my hopes lately.

But there's a difference between knowing what you want to happen or how you hope a character is and what's actually going on in the show.

Is she getting the Draco in Leather Pants treatment?

(Anonymous) 2012-01-13 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh, people are really doing that? Gross. She's a RAPIST. Along with being a murderer, which I will admit I found less problematic. That's probably messed up.

[identity profile] nomorefrostbite.livejournal.com 2012-01-13 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
People are being like that? So glad i'm not involved in the fandom :(((

Crying more with you, OP.

Also, Team Gold. JUST HAD TO SAY IT.

Lol no, Regina/EQ is supposed to be the ultimate bad and that makes her interesting in and of itself. Everything she does comes from a dark place because it serves to maintain a world built on exacting revenge/maintaining power. She could save the whole town from the apocalypse but that doesn't mean she's suddenly good since she'd only be doing it to keep her utopia intact.

I mean I love Regina and ship her with Emma like burning so it would be great to know how she got that way(because currently she's just coming off as a drama queen who just wants to get her way for the rest of eternity), but I wouldn't want her to actually be the put-upon well meaning person she comes across as. She's supposed to be the bad that makes the good seem great, trying to explain away her actions takes away from her character. A whole kingdom couldn't defeat this woman I doubt they'd be living in fear of someone who was subject to things like guilt and fondness for anyone other than herself.

~Overly invested anon is really overly invested in this character. Seriously, though, no. Anyone who excuses the Graham situation needs to get a grip~

Agreed. I'm fine with liking her as the villain she is, but when I hear people trying to excuse everything she's done, I don't get it. Saying Emma's the one in the wrong, calling Henry an ungrateful brat, feeling sorry for her. Really? She's a liar, rapist, and murderer. I don't care what Snow did to her. It doesn't excuse ruining the lives of everyone else. It doesn't excuse what she did to Graham and to her own father.

I more dislike her because the acting is so forced. She's chewing the scenery.

I love every single character so far on "Once Upon a Time". (Except Cinderella. There's just something about the way the character came across on that particular episode, that just left me 'Meh.') I'll say right here and now that I fully own up to my love for morally questionable characters. Villains, especially in a Fantasy setting have always interested me. As far as this show goes, everyone on it makes me want to know so much more about the stories they have left to tell. I suppose I should feel like a dork, but I haven't had a show that's turned into "Appointment Television" for me in a long time. The last time that happened, was with "Xena: Warrior Princess", and the main villain there intrigued me as well. I absolutely LOVED Callisto.

Reason why I don't get why people love villains so much. They justify their actions just like the villains themselves do. There is a reason why they're evil.

So...everyone has to "deal with the fact" that not everyone likes what they like...except for you?

Seriously, OP, it sounds more like YOU have a problem with that segment of fandom than that segment of fandom has with you.

[identity profile] fuchsiascreams.livejournal.com 2012-01-13 11:09 am (UTC)(link)
I really hate that people legitimately think that there is no such thing as a man being raped (and especially not by a woman, gasp!). I actually had this exact argument on Facebook today, oddly.

[identity profile] cyprith.livejournal.com 2012-01-13 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I think she's a poorly written one-dimensional character. But then, I think that about Emma, too, and she's kind of the fandom darling. Not to mention the point of the show.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-13 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen some of this and just NO. What she was doing to the Huntsman was horrible! And then she killed Graham for daring to oppose her. These are both straight up evil actions. Being raped by someone attractive doesn't make it any less rape.

From a character point of view, though, I still love to watch her. I WANT her to be evil and do bad things. That is the point of her. But then I've never had any trouble enjoying fictional evil and don't see the point of excusing it. I don't want a woobie. I want a villain. (Not that I can't sympathize to some extent - a villain with understandable reasons and layers is more interesting but that doesn't make her less evil.) I'm also not interested in excusing Gold (yay Carlyle!) even though he is by far my favorite. I do see him as a bit more grey than completely black but he is definitely BAD. And that's the way I like him.

[identity profile] writerserenyty.livejournal.com 2012-01-13 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen bits and pieces of this in the fandom, but not THAT much. Maybe you're just going in the wrong places? To be honest most of the EQ/Regina fans LIKE that she's fucked up and totally accept that. As a fan of the character (even though my two favorite characters are Snow/Mary Margaret and Archie/Jiminy), I'm interested to see where her character goes, I ship her like CRAZY with Emma, but that doesn't make her actions excusable, good, or anything like that.

My headcanon/perfect future is that sometime Regina will realize how far she's gone, but the worry will be if it's too late for her and Emma to make sweet sweet love .

[identity profile] ahkna.livejournal.com 2012-01-14 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Let people be fannish the way they want. People do the same with pretty much every evil character on a television show or movie ever; from Loki to Spike to Damon & Klaus to Sylar, it's pretty common.

[identity profile] tari-silmarwen.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
