I concur OP, and I enjoyed this show immensely. I should probably see if there is any worthwhile fic out there.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
probably.

and that is how the world turns. does it make me a little bitter? yes. but would I care if I wasn't bisexual with a preference for girls? probably not. this is just how it is.

[identity profile] goobbledigook.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I probably would've been more interested, yeah.

[identity profile] chaosmyth.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly, I think the answer is yes. But still, Noir will never stop being amazing and flawless and the show with my favourite pair of female leads ever ♥

[identity profile] trojanphoenix.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved this show so much, gonna have a rewatch.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes and I'd probably read it

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd watch it in a second if they dressed in something besides mini skirts and midriffs.

The show's pretty dated, so it's no surprise the fandom's not very big or active, even if all four of them were men.

Also, on the contrary, I wouldn't have touched Noir had the main characters been men unless I was still in my rabid yaoi fangirl phase.

[identity profile] kyuusei.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Most likely.

Regardless, I loved this show and it's one of the very, very few anime I still love so much. I wonder if it's on blu-ray...

[identity profile] atelierlune.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe, but I could also see that starting a lot of wank too.

Sad but true. But I've become jaded after seeing some pretty meh things put on a pedestal simply because of yaoi.

I've never given this series a shot, methinks I'll be changing that. I'm not all that interested in the romantic side of characters so much, but women kicking ass? I'LL BE TAKING THAT~

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Even if they did remake it, I still wouldn't rewatch it. Not my cuppa tea.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I'm not sure if I would've bothered to watch if they were guys. And it's a great show, so I'm glad I did watch it.

[identity profile] gabzillaz.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
I'm almost 100% sure it would :/

[identity profile] unicornherds.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't have been nearly as interested. In fact, the idea of it being two dudes actually makes me a bit sad.

[identity profile] flowerylook.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
There would have been a bigger fandom if the show wasn't filled with (recycled animation) flashbacks. You know something is wrong when there is a 3-minute-long flashback to the first episode... in the second fucking episode!

I wanted to like it but it was just so boring
Sorry

If I wanted to watch a series about quasi-lesbians kicking ass I'd just watch Dirty Pair

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
It won't. Slow paced animes never have a big fandom, not matter how much ho-yay (or les-yay) they have.

[identity profile] orijinaru.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Absolutely true, OP. If the main characters were men then there would be fanfic about them for years. But since they're actually female no one cares. It's kinda ironic since there's all this outcry for strong female characters yet nobody pays any attention to them. :/

It would probably be more popular.
And I probably would not have watched it.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think so.

All my guy friends were ecstatic that they could get their hands on anime with lesbians, only to drop it later because of how "boring" it was. All my girl friends (among them a few yaoi fans) were happy to see an anime with strong, female characters. Half of them dropped the series for the same reason the guys did.

I don't think the girls being guys would've made the story any better. Also, the only yaoi fangirls who don't pay attention to the quality of story are the rabid ones. IMO, had there been a yaoi fandom for this anime, it wouldn't have been very good quality-wise.

[identity profile] rebelwithaclock.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
I remember thinking, when I dropped this series halfway through in my early days of anime fandom, that I might find the show more interesting if the main leads were pretty bishounen (because the way the show was, I got the feeling that it "wasn't for my demographic"). But...in hindsight, I'm not so sure. I'm not sure if I would get attached to the MCs any more if they were guys (because they still come across as being cold and uninteresting to me when I try to change their genders in my head), and the story still would've been slow, and I still would've been frustrated with the episodes where I felt the plot still wasn't going anywhere...

So. Yeah. I dunno. That would maybe help with the yaoi fandom but I don't know if it would've made that huge of a difference.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Are you kidding? The only reason I bought this was because of how much praise it got and the lesbians

Waste of my 20 tbh. I can see why it doesn't have a fandom.

Probably so. But I'm thankful for this reminder, because I've recently been so sick of every show with a pair of close-buddy main characters having them A) always be male, or B) female, but full of ecchi bullshit. So I put this my list.
