I hope not too much. most people haven't made a comic as shitty as lightbringer. That alone is reason to hate him

I like Atop The Fourth Wall because it entertains me, and Lewis Lovhaug is a kind, gracious person who always has time for the fans. He's awkward, yes, but you know something? So am I, so I can relate to the derp a bit easier. It doesn't hurt his cause that he's socially aware and very well read. I may also be a bit biased because his show saved my relationship in ways that I will never cease to be grateful for.

Good Linkara, best friend.

Oh god thank you.
Fat, bland-looking nerd with a horrifically annoying voice whose videos could be easily recreated with more charm and talent by a two-year-old. Yep that's sexy alright.
(The above can also be applied to the Nostalgia Critic, just add "skeevy facial hair" to the list.)
Seriously the amount of fangirls those guys get is just fascinating.

Different people like different things. This is not quantum physics.

The Nostalgia Critic is fat now? That's news to me. *eyeroll* Also Linkara is hardly "fat" either. Grow up.

Linkara is bland? I would even list him as "ugly". His face just looks so...unhappy and unfriendly.

[identity profile] hako-neko.livejournal.com 2012-01-25 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
He appears sincere enough and interacts kindly with his fans. While the quality of his content can be questionable at times, people seem to admire him for just doing what he loves and appreciating the people who support him.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-25 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
OP here. I can understand why people would enjoy his reviews or like him as a person. I guess what really perplexes me is the number of fangirls I hear squealing over how amazing and sexy he is. I don't think he's bad looking or untalented, just... average. Really average. Usually I have to problem being able to see why people obsess over someone I personally don't care for, but with Linkara I'm at a loss.

I respect his passion and his courage for putting his opinions out there, as well as his shameless fanboyishness. (Also, I think he's kinda cute.) Yes, he is awkward. So am I. So's most of the internet. He's the real kind of adorkable, not the manufactured quirky of mainstream media.

[identity profile] roadconezombie.livejournal.com 2012-01-25 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
This basically.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-25 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
I heard from a guy who worked with him that he's a horrible nitpicker and dictator-ish IRL though. Adorkable is something else.

[identity profile] dgcatanisiri.livejournal.com 2012-01-25 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
It's the fact that he is so down to earth that draws people to him. He's a dork and proud of it. He has obvious passion for what he's talking about. He's very generous with his fans, being well aware of things like the former TVTropes Fetish Fuel page and the smutty fanfic about him and he takes it all in stride.

[identity profile] urplesquirrel.livejournal.com 2012-01-25 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Because he's adorable. Because his jokes are funny enough to entertain, and his insights into the comic storylines are interesting.Because I don't see a lot of the casual sexism that the other male reviewers have.

Because he comes across as the most sincere person on that site (Obscurus Lupa being a very close second). Is he the most talented person? No, but I like him anyways.

[identity profile] intrigueing.livejournal.com 2012-01-25 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Awkward? Really? I always felt he was exceptionally non-awkward compared to the other people on TGWTG (although I like those awkward people too -- they feel so much like real people I might know.) I mean yeah he had a rough patch at the beginning, when he didn't really know how to project his voice and came off kind of like he was giving a powerpoint presentation, but he was just starting then, can't blame him.

IMO his best stuff was 2009-2010. He was really on the ball with that era -- terrible comics, hilarious reviews. He's still good in my opinion, but he's changed a bit and dips into comics that aren't really terrible more often and plays around with storylines, and I've heard quite a few people say that partly because of that, he's not as good anymore. Also that his ego got too big, which I never understood since I always assumed his character's increasing insanity was just for shits and giggles. Maybe I'm just unobservant?

However, I will go down fighting anyone who doesn't agree that his Secret Origin's Month review of The Fantastic Four #1 wasn't one of the most side-splittingly hilarious things on that site.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-25 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
OP: Maybe awkward isn't the word I'm looking for, but I don't know what the right one would be. Whenever I see him I just can't shake this feeling that he thinks he's really awesome and doesn't seem to realize just how much of a dork he is. I suppose it's possible I'm seeing things that aren't there or that I can't see past his character. I don't think that's it, but the number of people who disagree with me makes me think I must be doing it wrong...

No one's gay for Moleman...

I'm not really on board with someone who made something like Lightbringer reviewing comics and being taken seriously.

Yeah yeah, don't have to be a chef to know the food sucks, I know. But in this case EVERYTHING about it is just...yeah. Pacing, sequential art, dialogue, story, character design, etc. etc.

Then again, I don't find the Nostalgia Critic entertaining either, so I'm sure it's simply not my cup of tea.

[identity profile] jaquenerd.livejournal.com 2012-01-25 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
seriously

what the fuck happened with lightbringer? I mean...I tried...I tried

[identity profile] novemberxi.livejournal.com 2012-01-25 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know anything about the kinds of comics he reviews or even have an interest in them and yet I still watch Linkara's videos because he seems very knowledgeable about what he's talking about and I like his commentary/humor.

IMO a lot of the reviewers on TGWtG are awkward in one way or another, but they are very aware of it and have a good sense of humor about it in their videos. I respect them for doing what they love and putting out videos for our entertainment.

This is something that completely passed me by too. I've only ever seen one of his videos, but he struck me as the sort of "comedian" that confuses telling a joke with yelling really loud.

Frankly I'm a fan mostly for his storylines. The end of the Entity arc was freaking awesome. So I guess I'm more fawning over his writing skills than Linkara himself...

I would love to know where you get awkward from. He doesn't look the least bit awkward in his videos, to me anyway. And I got to meet him at a convention just recently and he was one of the sweetest, friendliest, and kindest people I've met in a long time. He was very gracious to his fans, thanking them for watching his videos, answering any questions we had, and taking all the pictures we wanted. He's not egotistical or anything like that; he's a guy who enjoys his reviews and is glad that other people enjoy them.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I find a man who is unashamed to call himself a feminist attractive. (Especially a fan of something like mainstream superhero comics, which despite it's best efforts is pretty damn sad in the women department.)
