And HNG is a series that is so much love, and it's one of my favourites as well, so... While I don't like every fic for the fandom, I guarantee if you liked an idea enough to write it, there's someone out there who's going to love it too.

12. THIS SECRET SPEAKS TO ME. I love costumes, cartoon animals, rule 34 and the like, and I don't consider myself a furry. Why? I'm with you. I can't stand peoples 'fursonas', I HATE the furry 'lifestyle' (oh god i am a yiffy foxie hehe SCRITCH ME), ect ect. I think, if anything, folks like you and I are just cartoon animal fans, or whatever, and I'd much rather be one of those than a furry :D I think they're pretty different, myself. To me, a furry is more than just someone who likes the art, as many furries claim, but someone who identifies with it as a subculture rather than a hobby, which is creepy :{ And they usually identify themselves as such.
ALSO if you are who I think you might be, you are not furry enough to be a furry

9. This movie was the biggest disappointment. God, it just blew. It's not a horror movie, it's about a boy's peep show on the neighbor girl who never took any acting lessons. That a fandom exists for it = FAIL.

Then AOL froze.

I responded to several other secrets, too, but they're not really important.

As there's been a lot of discussion already, I put some explanation behind my answer... Because I'm certainly not looking to start a war.

I hate that more than I probably should, but as has already been pointed out - I'm not insulting Japanese people - I just hate when English speaking people say English names, as if they're Japanese. You know the language, say it right. Saying it wrong is not 'more accurate' or 'cute.' Give it up.
Though I'm still curious about how certain manga-only characters names are pronounced...

17: THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. OMFG. It absolutely kills me how some really good authors can't even get their stories read/commented on, let alone recced, because the 10-20 mutually friended self-proclaimed leaders are too busy sniffing each others' asses. The worst part? Some of those BNFs aren't even great writers!

(Me, aside from one half-assed blind_go entry once, I haven't even bothered...I just write for other fandoms instead where work is judged on its own merits and not on the name recognition of the author. It still makes me sad, though, because Hikaru no Go has been my hands-down favorite anime and manga series since 2003.)

7. Well, technically at this point all fantasy IS "derivative" of something. Everything has been done before at least once. The trick is finding several somethings and combining them in a way which hasn't been done, or doing something which hasn't been done often.

11. I have a similar thing. I don't really see anything wrong with pornifying cartoon characters, as long as it's labelled as such REALLY CLEARLY well before you actually get to it, so the unsuspecting can't run across it. I do object to it being done badly, but I object to human porn being done badly as well. I don't really think I prefer furry stuff to human stuff, I just think the animal characters are neat. I don't want to be involved with mainstream furdom, though, because there are too many really weird people in there. Just lurk on the fringes, and if a reporter asks you what yiff is, for God's sake tell them you don't know.
