Wow... yeah. That's absolutely bullying. Claiming that it's common sense? Nope, everyone has different definitions. I've given you mine.

Sorry, this is my last reply as I refuse to subject myself to this. You'll have to find someone else to intimidate and shout at.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-05-04 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
So disagreement =/= bullying, unless they disagree with you. Good to know!

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-05-04 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Notice how you are completely able to walk away from this discussion and never talk to this person ever again, and the fact that you waited this long to do so was entirely your choice. You know what that is? Not bullying!

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-05-04 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
And all those kids can just transfer schools. :D Totally okay, right?

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-05-04 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
...Please be sarcasm.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-05-04 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
No! I was being sincere!

What do you need? A sarcasm sign?

My point was that the victim being able to leave doesn't impact whether something is bullying.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-05-04 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
It impacts the seriousness of the bullying. Do you honestly not see the difference between a situation you are willfully putting yourself in (internet, where you can sign off at any time) and one where you have no choice (real life, where many people don't get a choice of where they go and when)?

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-05-04 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! I do see the difference!

However, bullying not exclusive to either. Real life bullying is certainly more serious, but that doesn't mean that internet bullying is good, is right, or is nothing. It exists and it doesn't get a free pass for being 'not as horrible.'

Also, really? Bullying is a problem no matter where you are.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-05-04 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
It gets a free pass on needing intervention, though. You don't need an organization to tell you to shut your computer off.

Yes, it does. If you can easily leave the situation but choose not to? That's not bullying. That's martyrdom. And before you jump on it, transferring schools isn't easy. Especially public school, and homeschooling is not an option for families who are too poor to afford to have one parent home all the time.

Fandom shit doesn't require anyone's intervention or anyone to advocate for you, because you have all the power you need to cut it out of your life. It's not bullying when you have the luxury of walking the fuck away.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-05-04 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yes it is!

It's not as serious, but it is bullying and the people who do it are just as bad, even if less effective.

You're acting like it's easy to walk away from any and all friends you've made online. It's not. There aren't financial ties, but you still have the emotional ties.

Why is the victim responsible for other people targeting them?

Stop. Go outside. Get some perspective.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-05-04 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Right, where perspective = bullying olympics.

I call troll.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-05-04 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Nope, someone who actually knows that bullies aren't all grunting, drooling stereotypes and that we could all be bullies in about 30 seconds flat.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-05-04 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
I call bully.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-05-04 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
Sadly, at times, probably yes, but no more than anyone else here.

That's kind of my point... that flinging insults, treating people like they're morons, pressuring them to agree with you, yeah, that's bullying behavior. It's really easy to do. That's the biggest 'myth' as far as I'm concerned: you're either a bully or a victim, when in changes all the time online. You don't have power over me and I don't have power over you so we insult, blackmail, etc. in order to control someone.

That's bullying behavior. I can admit that and I think the biggest step is for everyone to admit that's something that we call could and would do, even if we'd never throw someone into a locker.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-05-04 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Except you don't have any way to assert control when the other person can very easily just ignore you and never have to read another thing you post ever again. If they choose not to, that's their problem.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-05-04 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, if you're willing to leave every community and friend you have to start over anew.

And again, it should not be the victim's responsibility.
