I still can't understand how anyone thought they made her awesome. I remember watching The Avengers like "ho man, the hate this bitch is gonna get is gonna be so good" but nope.

I liked her in the cartoons though. I just think Scarlette fucked her.

I like that she DIDN'T need ~super powers~ to be an effective fighter. She also was given some character depth and a narrative arc beyond just being a badass and sexy woman. She was shown to be clever and manipulative, but she also had a heart.

ALSO she wasn't just there to be The Token Female and flirt with / be flirted with by every male character (I was so, so, so glad to see that). While there was some romantic subtext (and text) between her and Hawkeye, it wasn't done in a way that invalidated her prior characterization, and it was all very clearly on her terms. I loved that.

Agreed; IMO Black Widow was pretty much the most badass one because she didn't have crazy powers or gadgets but was just as useful to the team as anyone was.

Natasha is a hell of a lot more watchable than Scarlett herself. I was watching an interview with the cast the other day and I couldn't stop wishing she'd just shut up.

I played Kara (trueblue_sg) and Lois (therightlane) for a bit there. Pepper Potts (alfredonheels) as well. So many others that aren't DC/Marvel either. Like George Lass and Daisy Adair from Dead Like Me if you've heard of it.

i hope you're referring to scarlett's acting over bw's characterization, because damn if they didn't do everything to make her stand out amongst a super-powered cast of who are essentially dudebros.

i don't enjoy scarlett's acting but i enjoy her portrayal of black widow, i liked her tough exterior and the little bit of fear we saw upon her being trapped with Bruce hulking out.

Her acting truly is awful. I never agreed with that popular opinion until this movie (then again, I've never seen her in anything other than Home Alone LOL). She just focused on dramatic facial expressions. There was no way in hell I was to believe she was an amazing spy of some sorts. She was awful. And a Russian accent would have been nice.

This. The thing with Ms Johnasson, is that the more famous she gets, her acting skills deteriorate (yeah, people are going to harp on Golden Globe and Tony noms and I'll tell you about star power versus talent and how in lots of cases, the twain rarely meet).

I would have been happy with even a vaguely European accent (hard to describe, but it's there) and Scar Jo couldn't even be bothered. She was so American, and just... Scar Jo in a costume. She had such a good role and Vicky Christina Barcelona'd it.

That was such a brilliant scene. I love the way she was able to use misconceptions that Loki had about her because she was a woman in order to out-smart him.

A lot of people got upset over the mewling quim line, but I personally felt it emphasized the fact that she was playing up to Loki's expectations and then slapping him in the face with them.

What Hulk did to him physically, Black Widow did to him tactically. And given that his entire back is screwing with people's heads, that's far far worse.

I watched the movie 3 times now and still can't see it. What exactly did she find out that couldn't be figured out by using some common sense? Or are we supposed to work under the assumption that all the other agents of the S.H.E.I.L.D are just that stupid?
