But you've selected all media photos, not KStew in character screencaps. And it's her performance, more than her personality, I think folks criticize. And I say this as a fan.

I don't like it because it's clear that people are basing that off of her acting in Twilight, which is ridiculous because who actually tries to act in those movies? NO ONE. (Except for Taylor Lautner maybe, and he just doesn't know any better.) They are a wasteland for any actual acting abilities.

Personally I don't take any criticism against Kristen's acting seriously unless you've seen The Runaways.

I think her facial expressions are fine. I think people are just too used to actresses constantly smiling or looking thrilled to be wherever they are for no reason.

Totally agreed, on all points. Honestly, as a woman who has been criticized (often by complete strangers!) all my life for not smiling enough, not dressing and acting like the "ideal girl," being awkward and uncomfortable in social situations... I'm glad Kristen's famous, because I see myself in her. I can relate to her in a way that I can't relate to, say, Lea Michele or Anne Hathaway (and nothing personal against either of them, it's just that they come to mind as the polar opposite of KStew's vibe).

I think she's pretty. She seems cool. I really liked her in The Runaways and Adventureland. She and Pattinson have been phoning it in on the Twilight films for the past few years, and I can't blame them because the material doesn't give them much to work with - but I don't think she's a terrible actor.

When the criticisms of something tend to be regurgitated verbatim with the same comparisons everywhere ("She looks constipated all the time," gee, I've never heard that one before) I tend to assume the hatred is partly hive-minded and that a lot of these people haven't spent a brain cell forming their own opinion about her talents from actually watching her films because nobody wants to like Kristen Stewart after she played Bella Swan. She's young and she's limited but she's not terrible; complaining about her acting is practically a meme so I can't really take any extreme opinions about her seriously.

I have to agree you could have picked better pics to try to demonstrate range of expression, LOL, but it's not like how she looks in real life should matter.

I see what you're getting that, but these photos don't exactly show a huge range of expressions either...

Besides, IRL, most people know how to emote. However, everybody knows how to act. Acting her emotions would be the sticking point here, and I guess she's just not doing such a good job of it. (I haven't actually ever watched her in anything, but this is the impression I get from discussions / screenshots)

I just want to give her self-esteem kudos for being being in a movie that hinges on people accepting her as "prettier" than Charlize Theron.

Just the thought of all the crap people would be (and have been) saying would have been completely intimidated out of coming near that role.

I love her, but she is bland.

"Oh, give her a break! She can do expressions when she feels like it." Um. No. Actors are supposed to have facial expressions, it's part of their acting and what sets them above the rest. I'm not about to give her extra credit just because she sometimes-maybe-every-now-and-then might show more than one expression on her face.

From what I've seen in Twilight, her acting was pretty wooden and flat there but I tend to associate that with what little she had to work with. IMO someone's performance in Twilight is not equal to their overall acting ability. I've seen Pattinson, etc. in more decent roles.

To be fair though, I haven't seen Stewart in anything outside of Twilight so I can't say if the expressionless zombie Bella she had going is part of an acting style that extends beyond the Twilight series.

Seriously, especially since a lot of the comments are derived from places of "oh she just bugs me" and they crit her acting on something I don't even get. I went into an icon post for SWATH the other day and LOW AND BEHOLD MULTIPLE FACIAL EXPRESSIONS.

The people who say that have almost turned me into a stan, tbh. I've only ever seen one movie she's been in (so far! I want to see SWATH), and that was an ancient Disney flick(Catch that Kid, anyone?) that I don't remember much of her acting from. I don't know enough to criticize her acting ability, so I don't. And because I don't I actually like her. A lot. She gets so much flack that just just has to not give a fuck, and that's something I aspire to.

TBH Her and RPatz are awesome in interviews and stuff. So I can't hate, no matter how stupid I think Twilight is.

honestly i really like her in twilight. i feel like her blandness kind of suits the role...

but having just seen snow white and the huntsman, i have to say she is really one of the worst actresses working today. and there are a LOT of bad ones. she is so, so bad. i think she sucked the soul right out of that movie. even chris hemsworth (who is amaaaazing) couldn't do anything with her until she was comatose. only chemistry in the entire thing.

i do think she is very pretty, though.

I actually quite like her as a person, she seems nice and friendly. But I'm not gonna lie, I think she's a bad actress. I've seen her in all the Twilight films, Into the Wild, Adventureland, In the Land of Women, Speak, and I've seen clips of various other films she's been in. She doesn't emote well at all. Her idea of acting stressed, angry, sad, or awkward is to run her hand through her hair, sigh, make a whiny noise... and more hand-through-hair action. If it weren't for her interviews, I'd have no idea what she looks like when she's really happy.

She's incredibly bland. That said, I don't partake in Kristen Stewart bashing. As I said, I think she seems like a nice girl. I just can't stand her acting.

I mean, I think her performance in Adventureland was much different than Bella, but it didn't stand out.

If she could actually act, then maybe I'd be inclined to agree with you. But she can't. A bag of dirt projects more emotion on-screen than she does. It's not sexism. It's simply pointing out the obvious. Don't like it? Too bad. I think she's a talentless hack, and no amount of bitching, moaning, or white-knighting will change my opinion.

Too bad she can't take any of the money she's made off 'Twilight' and buy herself some talent.

Honest question here:

Is there something with her facial muscles, especially around her eyes? Like, a medical condition, a surgery gone wrong, idk?

Because, at most, I've only seen her move her mouth a little bit, but her eyes stay the same no matter what kind of expression she's trying to make.

I don't even dislike her, or anything. I think she's pretty and from what little I've heard of her as a person she sounds like someone cool.
