Are people actually writing Tony as crazy? They are aware he ran a Fortune 500 (or whatever Stark Industries is) company that's on the cutting edge of technology, right? The man's a hedonist, not nuts.

I'm imagining the strangest Avengers/Futurama crossover, where Iron Man becomes Hedonismbot. "Jarvis! Fetch the chocolate icing!"

I don't think I'd call it Tony one-step-above-River-Tam crazy, but I do see him usually written as extremely, uh, eccentric. (Which isn't too much of a stretch if you are going off the movie!verse.) I think what OP is seeing is fics where Tony does weird and eccentric things that are rational to him only. Think River cutting up Book's Bible. I think I've seen, maybe, one fic like this that I can recall. Or, the OP is actually seeing his character get interpreted as a person so insane he can barely function; in which case, I'd say the OP is reading some bad, OOC fic.

That's kinda what I was expecting would happen after Avengers. Characters with decades of history people don't wnt to read condensed into broad strokes for accessibility and convenience = fanfic writing them in even broader Flanderized sitcom strokes.

but man, "ok so he punched out super-nazis and is a beloved icon who's lost everyone he loved BUT HO HO HO ISN'T HE SO DUMB AND INEFFECTUAL AND BLUSHING AND ADORABLE AND GOOFY" Steve irritates me. He's not even my favorite or anything.

This sound like my kind of crackfic. Links please, OP?

That Tony description sounds like someone mixing up RDJ's Holmes in there.

That reminds me actually. Capslock!Thor always sounds like Aquaman from Batman Brave and the Bold. I didn't realise that until now 8U

And honestly, I think Thor is more gullible than stupid. I haven't delved much into actual fanfic, but just from browsing tumblr and being around LJ it's very obvious this is a thing.

Stop right there, citizen! Expressing your dislike for certain themes, tropes or characterizations in this black and white world means you are automatically policing, dismissing, shaming or trivializing others' preferences. And, seriously, who are we to have likes and dislikes in fic?

Momma (not mine, but someone's, surely) always said, "If you can't say something nice, you shouldn't say anything at all." This, of course, always applies to you and never to trolls who will insultingly call you out for stepping on their right to like something you don't.

You clinked your bottles, and I can see you getting some hits from the easily offended. It remains to be seen whether the trolls come out to plaaaaaay.

I've been pleasantly surprised by Avengers fandom in general, but CAPSLOCK!moron!Thor is the one thing I keep running into that just annoys the hell out of me. He's not stupid! He doesn't shout all the time! Oh, and another thing I see a lot when that version of Thor is around - just because he ate them once in canon doesn't mean he eats Pop-Tarts all the damn time. If it's crack, cool, whatever. But it's disappointing to see the character treated like one-note comedy relief in otherwise serious fic.

I agree about Steve and Tony, but crackfic with CAPSLOCK!Thor is my favourite thing ever. And it's semi-canon. You can't deny that he has capslocky moments in the movies!

I love capslock!Thor, but only in crackfic. I've seen a disturbing number of completely serious, dramatic fics that still have Thor as a total moron.

For crack fic I don't mind casplock!Thor so much but moron!Thor I can't stand even in a cracky way. No the guy isn't a genius in comparison to Tony and Bruce, and hell even Natasha and Clint in their own respective ways, but he isn't a complete doofus either. A bit gullible and endlessly hopeful yes, but not stupid. I do wish there was more fic where Thor uses earth technology without any problems and even questions why humans don't have an [insert uber high tech asguardian doohickey here] and is dissapointed that they haven't figured out more awesome sciency stuff yet.

I'll admit because it took me so long to realise what 'dancing' was a euphamism for the CA movie I don't mind slightly naive Steve so much, not all the way 'but how do I sex?' kind of innocence but maybe a little bit of a blushing virgin? I don't know, If anyone has any I'd totally read sexually dominant Steve because my brain has just realised how... hot that could be.

I fucking love crack fics, I love to read them, I love to write them, I just love them in general. But when you try to put your crack into a serious fic? It just doesn't work. Keep the crack in the crack fics, people, if you put crazy shit in your serious business fic it doesn't work, even if you're going for comedy relief. Make sure it fits with the rest of the story.

Tbh, I am kind of surprised at how much fluffy and cracky and sitcom-y fic there is to found in the Avengers fandom. I was eating it up like the sweet, happy candy it is, but now my teeth kind of hurt. I'm not used to so much happiness in my fandoms of choice. Even the serious business fics in the Avengers fandom have a lot fluffy moments. I need to wash all this sweetness down with some bitter, desperate angst. I think read those fics (all five(?) of them) already, though. I'm kidding; but, seriously, more OH NO POOR TONY! No shame, I love that trope.
