THIS IS EXACTLY MY FEELINGS. ;-; I really want to RP actual characters (i've been doing OCs for the past 5 years), I think i've got a handle on their persona, and yet...@___@; oi.

14.
Oohhh, where's the Rockstar!Axel from~? (I'm sad because now I can't make a char with that name ;-; I liked it back years before KHII came out, but now they're gonna be all "OOO YOU COPIEDDD D:")

14 - he's from a nippon ichi game called Disgaea 2. XD His japanese name is Akutare, but it's fun to compare video game axels. 8DDDDDDD

Oh man, me too! ;_; I'm only halfway throooooough. Luckily my friends are all nice, but I don't trust the rest of the internet after T-shirt hell spoiled me for Dumbledore biting in in Book 6. (Saddest of all, I still wanted to buy the shirt that ruined it for me cause it was hilarious.)

1. Jackie Chan Adventures was awesome! Me and my BF used to wake up on weekends and watch it :D Me and him (try to) do the Uncle voice all the time "One mooooore thiiing!"

3. I think it's an age thing. Many (not all) anime fanfic authors are younger than many (not all) Western fandom writers (some slash writers have been around since the advent of Kirk/Spock!), so those older fans who've had more time to hone their craft make the average output quality somewhat higher. I'm also wondering if anime might be a younger-tending type of thing (in general), for myself I know I feel like I've grown out of it, which again would lead to less mature skills if older fans really do move on. Or it could be that as anime fandom in general sticks around and grown in the Western world, it too will have a good population of older writers. Anyway, that's only my theory. No actual facts or testing involved.

8. Heh. Meanies. But still, heh.

12. Hotness is a your-mileage-may-vary kind of thing. I think he's okay (not that that's a very flattering picture. However give me Rupert Grint any day! Did you see his shoulders in movie four? Boy's grown into a nice chunk of man.

13. Aww, write it anyway! You can make sure a few more people know his name. Anyway, I'm sure manifestos have been written on less. You'll just have less of the "canon backing" section and more of the "why fans like this pairing" section. I'm sure the research would be fun!

17. Oh god, my sympathies. I devoured the whole thing in one night (last night, actually, after work until 1:30 am) purely out of self-defense, because it's so damned hard to avoid spoilers. For god's sake, people were discussing them in [livejournal.com profile] ihasatardis (Doctor Who lolmacro lj) and on Televisionwithoutpity.com. Good luck avoiding those spoilers, and I mean that in a totally non-sarcastic way--I hope you can do it!

21. I think I need to google Otakin. Sounds like an interesting phenomenon.

22. The movie was kind of crap, but I enjoy David Wenham no matter what he does, so I think that's a great pairing :D. To me he's always "that guy who survives." Faramir did, that monk did, and the guy he played in 300 did. Oooh. Pardon me while I think about 300 some more.

Wow... you guys match! Nice!

*wonders if you know each other and both posted about each other spontaneously on the same submission thread, cause that would be pretty awesome*

14 - Ooh, Axel~~~ I loved Disgaea 2 and I loved him. There are fans... But they're kinda scattered...

25 - ...People hate Luke? That's a surprise, I'm kinda shocked. I mean, Luke actually did something about his problems.

[personal profile] pleonasm 2007-07-27 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
23. They'll have to shank me too. God, I love that series. I love HP too, but Discworld doesn't have to have all the deep themes and stuff HP does-- it's just funny. And thoughtful at the same time.

Death ftw!

[identity profile] militarypenguin.livejournal.com 2007-07-27 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
1. It's one of the funniest goddamn shows in existance, too. Uncle is my hero.

2. and 16.: ORIGINAL AND REPLICA??!!!1?

25. Huh, and a lot of people I've seen in the fandom seem to love him for that reason. The ones who hate him are usually ones who either hated him at the beginning or hated how he changed. I haven't gotten to that point in the game myself, so...
glazedmacguffin: (POPE!)

[personal profile] glazedmacguffin 2007-07-27 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
1. That show is awesome. AWESOME.

2. I've had a few people do that for me recently.

11. I feel that way too. I'm constantly asking the people I RP with, "are you cool with this?" or "is this a good idea?" I pulled down my negative secrets that I was going to post because I didn't want anyone else to worry if something was about them.

19. I swore off RPing canon for years, and now I've sworn off RPing OCs until I can be creative on my own again. No matter what though, you'll always run across the same RP problems with canon and OCs.

11.

(Anonymous) 2007-07-27 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, I didn't think about other people worrying about my secret. I just know that the person it's to will never see it, because she doesn't read this community.
I'd be less worried about it if she was ever honest with me, I feel like she puts up with me because she's bored and RPing with me gives her something to do.

Then again, she's a hypocrite who claims she's sick of one thing and when I suggest we try the opposite flips out about how 'her character would never allow that.' Then stop complaining you want a turn.
If it's an IC situation than I shouldn't have to feel bad for it always turning out that way - and if she's bored, she should say so.

Sorry, I didn't mean to rant in reply... I know what you mean, though. I'm always checking everything I do. I just wish more people would give the same courtesy, ask me before you put my character into certain situations. Is that too much?

Thanks for the comment!

25. I love Luke to bits. He's one of my favorite RPG characters and is my favorite RPG hero of all time.

I don't see how people CAN hate a character who changes and grows and becomes a better person; at least not without being completely blind.

[identity profile] hamburger.livejournal.com 2007-07-27 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
25. ... what? WHAT OF PAC-MAN? D: Blasphemy.

[identity profile] mipeltaja.livejournal.com 2007-07-27 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
1. Jackie chan Adventures rocks! And I think I was fifteen when I first saw it.

13. I feel your pain. D: Me, I've written one OP Ship manifesto so far - which was difficult enough even though I had a bit more screentime to work with than you would with Ben/Shanks - and now I sort of curse at the rest of the pairings I want to write manifestos for, because there just isn't enough canon for an entire essay.

23. Who doesn't like Discworld better?
Well, okay, I suppose there could be people who don't Pterry's kind of fantasy, but, um. Anyway.

(Anonymous) 2007-07-27 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Hell, I kind of wanted to do a Fullbody/Jango one, too. And like, Johnny/Yosaku, and-- you know all of the pairs of people? All of them. The Dynamic Duo sorts. I have considered doing manifestos for all of them. (And now that I finally found a pairing to write a manifesto for, it's not even from OP. ARGH.)

(Bet you know who I am, by the way. XD)

HAY, I LIKE DISCWORLD MORE, TOO. If your friends want to shank you because of that, you should force them to read those books and see for themselves. Should work, I think. Force solves everything, stfu omfg. D: And this is where I take a moment to cry over the fact that I still haven't read Thud! or Wintersmith. WHYYYYYY?!

12. Not hot! He's got a young boy's body. DDDD:

17. Stay off the internet then!

25. Aw. :( Rock on, dude. Luke is awesome.

14. GOD I NEED TO PLAY THE DISGAEA GAMES.

24. When did it get so popular to hate on Nomura? D: It's like this huge phenomenon nowadays. ...I still think he's an amazing character (and game) designer. .____. AND AMANO TOO.

:\ I hate short-haired Luke because for a good chunk of the game, he's hating on himself for just existing, and what good is change if you don't even love yourself? He does manage to get over that by the end of the game, but by the time he realizes it it's a litte too late. Having to listen to someone put themself down for about twenty five hours, especially when people around him are telling him that's not the way to do it, gets really annoying after awhile.

To say I hate Luke is too strong, but I agree with you. It's admirable that, when things went wrong, Luke got up and set about changing himself, and trying to fix his mistakes. But that primarily seems to manifest into 'I'm just the replica' - that is not good change!

And so, in that regard, he angers me. The love he recieves from his mother and even from his previously distant father doesn't seem to mean much. The continued reassurances from Guy seem to go over his head. Jade's detached about it, but the Necromancer grows to appreciate Luke, but that never quite seems to sink in. Luke makes me angry because he disregards the opinions of his friends entirely too often.

In that regard, he annoys me for the same reasons Symphonia's Presea did. I can understand why they would feel like outsiders, why they would feel inferior or unworthy or strange, disconnected from others. But the both of them are loved and cherished by the people around them, and the both of them don't seem to take that on board.

As I say, I like Luke. But there are many many times that his attitude annoys me. I do understand that his situation is pretty unusual and dark, and I understand that it wouldn't necessarily be easy for him to realise his own self-worth. But his scenes with Asch almost end up feeling like a charade by the end, so many times the situation seems to be reaching some resolution only to resurface all over again.

So in short, I can relate to the secret maker in that, yes, I do think Luke is a realistic character. But I totally see where you're coming from as well. He's horribly, terribly frustrating. Darn kid.

1. I LOVE THAT SHOW. <3

24. I got into video games late in life, so to speak (age 15) so I missed the original releases of most of the FF games, but I went back and played them anyway. And loved them. But I wonder if getting into the fandom "late" has anything to do with me, well, not hating the compilation stuff? I can see why people have a problem with it, but...DoC is a HILARIOUS game. Yes, the controls suck, but Vincent flips his cape every time he saves a civilian. It's hysterical. (more fun to play with a friend there tho, IMHO)

Yeah, so, I guess...I'm sorry that I still worship Nomura? D:

6. So don't read it so much, then! Save that ficwriter's stuff for occasional reads.

12. SO Agreed. I can't see the appeal in him. Plus, Matthew Lewis (http://cache.gettyimages.com/xc/75016892.jpg?v=1&c=NewsMaker&k=2&d=17A4AD9FDB9CF193BEA130A50EB9E8B4DA2DBFE605076424) is so much hotter now (not that he wasn't a cutie before though!). >:3

23. Me too! I mean, I love the HP books, but Discworld is so much better.
