Agreed. There's this one song by Enrique Iglesias ("Tired of Being Sorry," I think) that tries to put blame on the lady for his cheating and it pisses me off every time I hear it. Just...AGGGHHH.

Me too! Though for me it stretches across songs to books and movies too.

i'm the same way with a lot of topics, this one included. even if the beat is good, lyrics matter to me too. it's kind of a dual experience and if one goes sour the other can't make up for the whole.

I can listen to songs about cheating without any problems, since I tend to listen a lot more to melodies and instrumentation than lyrics, but I will laugh like an idiot when I come across a fic, fanart, Tumblr photo set, whatever, that's supposed to be romantic but uses lyrics from a song about having an affair.

Me too, mostly because it sort of pisses me off in general that cheating is considered so acceptable.

Heard so many dudes say, "I think everyone has cheated at least once."

And a decent percent of cheating songs seem to use the same nonexistent logic

I actually really relate to this secret. Cheating as a song theme really bothers me. Not songs where the person's been cheated on and is hurt and/or breaking up with their SO, or even songs where the person regrets having cheated, but rather songs where the person is singing about cheating and celebrating it or being obviously ok with it - I can't with those songs. They really put me off.

Agreed, although I don't tend to pick up on lyrics much (I generally tone their actual meaning out in favor of the sound of the voices with the instrumentation.) but if they're being really obvious about it, I'm just like "LOLNOPE."

I've been on both sides of the fence, and both times I've never considered it a really big deal. Like the idea that people get so utterly devastated by it has always struck me as incomprehensible.

I suppose I might feel different if I caught something.

Even worse is when the cheater seems unrepentantly bewildered that his/her S.O. dumped him/her because of it. Or when they somehow think the cheated party will somehow understand their reasons.

I can understand that, but I like cheating songs that tell a good story and imply the singer knows what they did was wrong and are remorseful.

Do you not like any songs about cheating, even ones told from the point of view of the one being cheated on?

Like so many things, it depends on the song.

This one makes me rage because hell, bitch, are we supposed to commiserate with your pain because your married lover is going home to his wife after he fucks you??

Me neither. :/ Unless I make up an elaborate backstory that fits the words but dodges the cheating part.

I can like songs that deal with cheating, but only (1) if I think of it from the perspective of, say, a fictional character (since I tend to make playlists for characters I write in fanfic or play in RP) and (2) if the song doesn't have bullshit excuses in it like "well, you're not good in bed!"

Wow it must really suck, most people who commented seem to really really fear that they'll be cheated on. Don't you trust your partner? Or is this a het/bi girl fear thing?

Yes. The one I dislike most is the one by Rihanna where she's basically whining about how sad she is about how much her cheating hurts her partner....so why doesn't she stop then? Makes me cross every time I hear it.

In books and films too, I lose a huge amount of sympathy for a character if they cheat on someone.
