Is antisemitism the politically correct thing these days?

I can't keep this shit straight.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-01 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Is antisemitism ever politically correct?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-01 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes, in that all Jewish Israelis are evil, etc.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-01 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
That doesn't sound very PC.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-01 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
No.

Support for Israel may or may not be considered "politically correct" depending on the circles you travel in. But you should never equate criticism of Israel with anti-Semitism (without other evidence of anti-Semitism, at least). And anti-Semitism is neither politically correct nor acceptable.

What about when a Jewish person is white, is it okay to hate them then?

Lol ONTD.

All whites are evil, so yes. All white jews are evil by extension.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-02 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Weren't you stanning for 4chan in a previous post? ONTD is pure evil, but 4chan is perfectly okay. Such a hypocrite.

4chan knows what it is and doesn't pretend to be anything else ONTD thinks it's good and acts as if it's judgement carries some kinda morality.

Hypocrisy is a most detestable sin. You won't find it in me. But you'll find it in spades there.

different anon here

I totally get what you're saying. It's weird, but as a black person, I find when I see open, shameless bigots, I dislike it, but it doesn't make me physically mad. But when I have to deal with some obnoxious social-justice try-hard who exclaims profusely how not-racist they are while being a total ignoramus, it just makes my blood boil.
I dunno, maybe I just grew up to be desensitized to 'open' bigots, and these social-justice morons are just new to me.

Sorry, but being an outright hateful dickhead is actually pretty harmful, though, of course, not to the likes of you. So feel free to wallow in fake superiority.

late, but totally agreed about 4chan. It's why I still go there.

They never pretend to be something they're not, unlike most of the internet.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-01 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Not true. People who claim to be "politically correct" are some of the most vicious anti-Semites I've ever met, and it has nothing to do with Israel.

When someone throws a tantrum over the word "bitch" but thinks it's OK to make jokes about your family dying in the Holocaust (and gets offended when you say that you don't find it funny at all), that's kind of fucked up.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-01 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Whoa - some asshole said that to you? That's more than fucked up.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-01 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah anyone who actually said that is fucking terrible

and not actually politically correct, even if they claim to be.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-01 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
'Social Justice' and how it's used on the internet, has nothing to do with it's original meaning.

I'm black, but since I don't fit into their neat little box of how black folks ought to act, I get called 'white' like it's some kind of insult.

It's utter insanity, and it's getting very scary right now.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-02 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, really. I'm not black, but I am Asian, and I've been called white for saying that MY OWN HOME COUNTRY has some serious problems with corruption and stifling of free speech.

Uh.

Thinking my country needs to stop imprisoning people for complaining about the government on the Internet makes me white? Is not liking corruption a white people thing now? Even if it is a white people thing, why would that be bad? For that matter, what's wrong with white people in general, and why is it such a bad thing to be white?

The really baffling part was when some SJW called me a banana. I didn't even know what the fuck that was supposed to mean until I looked it up on UrbanDictionary. Bananas are yellow on the outside and white on the inside. Like me, apparently. As far as I'm concerned, that renders anything those SJWs have to say on racism completely null and void.

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2012-10-02 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, as a white guy, I guess having sane and rational thoughts associated with me and mine (even if they don't realize that's what those thoughts are) isn't so bad? But... I'm not sure I want them to be exclusive either. There's enough sanity and rationality to go around. Especially since so many opt for insane and ludicrous instead.

But yeah. Anybody who uses "you sound white" as an insult, or worse, a way to win an argument (Skin color means your thoughts matter less hmm, what does this sound like class), is pretty much immediately filed into my "no more point arguing" box. That's when I get to trolling or just noping my way right out of the conversation cause there's gonna be no reasoning with that.

People feel opressed by life, and when they finally get themselves a safe place, what do they do? Set up a "us only" club and harass everybody who they want to get even with. That's the key word. Social Justice warriors don't want justice. They want to make them pay. Them being whoever isn't "us" usually.

I originally joined the SJ movement thinking it would be open-minded and accepting. Then they found out my heritage (I'm mixed-race).

They told me that race-mixing is evil, and said the nastiest things about mixed families. They said that any interracial families is cultural appropriation (a concept I think is total BS now) and fetishistic. They say they are race-traitors and white-washers. The two comments that stuck with me the most were "you are a product of colonization" and "you're mixed, you're existance is self-hatred by nature". They made me feel like an abomination for being mixed.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-02 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
There is no unified SJ movement.

The people who told you those things were pretty much the opposite of what most people who actually advocate against racism/sexism/homophobia/ect are.

The problem is that the assholes you met and actual good people working against isms of all sorts are both called SJ Warriors by other people and these groups are also both dismissed - because the asshole minority puts people off and because actual bigots don't want to confront their bigotry.

Well, it depends. Are you not liking Israel's political and military actions, or not liking "the Jews?" If you've got some reason for not liking "The Jews" then no, that's been unacceptable for a couple decades. Not liking Israel is pretty popular in many circles, though.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-02 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
It's PC, but I'm not a fan of it because it refers to hatred of any Semitic group, which includes Arabs. But a lot of people don't know this and say that Arabs are anti-Semitic or some such idiocy.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-02 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
You know that this is an argument used by anti-Semites to pretend they're not anti-Semites, right? Words have meaning and context. Yes, there is a group called "Semites" which is generally used to refer to Jews and Arabs mostly and a few other less known groups. But the term "anti-Semite" was specifically coined against JEWS. Anti-Semite = bigotry towards Jews specifically. People who say "I support the Palestinians who are a Semitic group therefore I am not an anti-Semite" are basically saying that the reason they can't be told they're showing bigotry towards Jews is because they have just re-defined what "bigotry towards Jews" means. i.e Nothing whatsoever to do with their attitudes towards Jews and everything to do with playing with words.

Call it anti-Semitism. Call it racism towards Jews. Call it Nora for all I care. But pointing out that the group of Semitic people is not the same as what people mean when they say anti-Semitic is not an argument that someone is not anti-Semitic, ie showing bigotry and prejudice towards Jews.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-02 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, my argument is that people will say that Arabs are anti-Semitic without realizing that the Arabs in question are Semitic. Clearly, they don't hate themselves. They're anti-Jewish or anti-Israel, not anti-Semitic.

Semitic at its core is a language group developed from an Abrahamic concept (Shem, the son of Noah, is believed to be the ancestor of these groups) that has been extended to include various cultures and ethnicities. The definition was narrowed because of the prevalence of Jewish people in Europe as opposed to other Semitic people. When speaking of Semites, there was no need to further identify them as Jews. This has led to people thinking that semitic can only refer to those of the Jewish faith, which isn't true. It really only makes sense to use anti-Semitic in a context where the group doing the discrimination is not also Semitic.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-02 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
If an Arab hates Jews, he's anti-Semitic.
