(Anonymous) 2012-10-02 01:23 am (UTC)(link)There are multiple movies and comics featuring lesbian characters who date and have major relationships with men, while their relationships with women are more of a background detail. It's not progressive, envelope pushing, avant-garde, or whatever else, especially when that's what a show has to offer in the way of gay characters.

Speaking only for myself: No, not really. As far as I'm concerned, a gay woman telling a straight guy they're both in love with the same man doesn't matter for shit if the show never bothers to follow up on both parts. So far, all we've gotten is the gay woman shown falling in in love with the man (ie, the straight relationship--which is the norm in our society). Where's the gay relationship?

And, sorry, I meant where's the gay relationship between John and Sherlock.

I guess that's why you only ever see heterosexual people only hook up with same sex partners on tv.

Yeah... for all the, "sexuality is fluid, and people experiment, and people aren't 100% gay or straight!"; when it comes to the media, 99.9% of the characters who go outside their stated sexuality are gays being attracted to/having sex with/etc. people of the opposite sex. Where's all the sexuality fluidity/experimentation/not 100%-ness when it comes to straight people?

Please tell me you or someone pointed that out to her, and/or pointed out that lesbian characters actually into women is a rarity?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-02 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)I think one of the problem I have with Moffat is that he says a lot of things but doesn't seem to know how to make it show in his writing.
