Dean would be more inclined to say "What the hell are you talking about" I think.

YES PLEASE.

I like to think Gruntiest of Grunts (can we call him Greg?) is a perfectly nice guy, just not very bright. And Looker is competent, but eccentric. PERFECT BUDDY-COP MATERIAL!

I'm actually really curious to know more about Cynthia, too. I always liked her a lot, and I thought the random little hints about her past were interesting. We can toss her in to the buddy cop road movie, too! It'll be rad as hell.

This needs to be the next Pokemon movie, f'reals.

Fraction

OMG did the moon fall out of the sky yesterday?

I haven't read his Hawkeye series or heard anything about it at all, but I despise Fraction with every fiber of my being for his ability to utterly destroy characters and put them through a very generic and distinctive patented Douchebaggifier (to steal a term from yesterday's AvX secret), so I'm utterly boggled at this news. Seriously? He actually wrote something good? I need to hear how this was accomplished.

The metal music scene is a goddamn sausagefest that could definitely use a few kickass ladies. So definitely go for it, op!

Besides, just imagine the faces everyone who dismissed you as a joker would make after they found out that you're able to deliver brutal vocals. That would be priceless.

Why WOULDN'T anyone hate it? Horrible, horrible ship.

This. The sad thing is that I really want to like AE, but dear Christ on a bike, their music is just tedious to me. Which is a shame because I really like Angela's voice, but there's only so much a singer can do if I'm just not feeling the other parts of their music.

You can go ahead and be tremendously upset about abortion. But you've no right to let that make you impose your will on someone else. If you seriously understand anon's point.

Yeah... there were a couple good episodes and villains (Dark!Danny), but over all it was a pretty standard kids show

Oh puh-leeze. As though regular soldiers today aren't heroic for wanting to do their part, however small, even if personally they don't actually change the game. It's called being part of something bigger than yourself.

Sure, part of Steve's motivations come from his feelings of uselessness (which are pretty depressing, since throughout the whole movie we never really see him overcome his rock-bottom self-worth and lack of self-preservation, and god that hurts because he's so much more than that), but that doesn't make him less heroic. That's all he had to be heroic about.

Like, Tony and Bruce had the "privilege" (that sounds wrong but I can't think of how else to put it -- it's a privilege for them as characters rather than as people) of being responsible for gigantic world-destroying super-powerful problems that they personally needed to fix and had the power to fix them. Steve was a poor kid from 1940s Brooklyn who wasn't powerful or intelligent or educated or wealthy enough to cause any problems that he needed to fix or do things no one else could do. He quite simply had nothing to offer except his willingness to help until the serum, because he's not a billionaire or corporate leader or a brilliant engineer or a genius scientist with a reputation and access to military projects and funding.

Yeah, Google "forcible rape" for that sad story, adding Ryan's name to confirm his vote on that bill. And the contraceptive thing refers to "personhood amendments", Google that. A constitutional amendment to define an unborn fetus as a person, which would make abortion murder. And in addition to leaving miscarriages open to homicide investigations and all kinds of other icky stuff, personhood would make hormonal birth control like "the pill" and IUDs illegal. They usually prevent fertilization, but when they don't prevent fertilization they prevent the embryo from implanting in the womb, and let it be flushed out with the woman's period. That would be murder, making hormonal contraception illegal.

I liked it because Joe Armstrong and Harry Lloyd were in it together.

Right. Because I'm sure you've never felt like being a judgmental, holier-than-thou jackass to some annoying jerk who kept mocking you for no reason all day. You don't retroactively become a bad person for that just because the jerk turns out to not be as big a jerk as he was acting like. Steve's only human, he's not telepathic, nor is he some kind of saint. And the scepter was making him speak far more rashly and vindictively than he ever would under normal circumstances, so don't say he should've kept his mouth shut until he knew better.

ETA: oh, and by the way, just to avoid any accusations of bias, I love Tony a good bit more than I love Steve, but if I didn't know anything about him or his personal motivations and he acted like that to me, I'd be pretty judgmental about him too.

The solution to sex-selective abortion is changing the culture that considers females to be less inherently valued than males. Restricting abortion will only lead to women seeking more dangerous means of terminating their pregnancy, or having daughters that they or their husband treat poorly or abusively. Many would argue that even a life full of abuse and feeling like your parents don't love you is better than no life at all, but that's not true in all cases -- I've heard personal accounts of people who grew up in abusive and unloving homes who say that it would have been better if their own mothers had aborted them rather than having a baby that they didn't want and couldn't or wouldn't raise in a healthy way.

Also, once you start saying that there are some legitimate reasons to legally restrict access to abortion, that sets a dangerous precedent, and there are already too many forces trying to restrict a woman's right to make her own reproductive decisions.

But the reason necrophilia is gross because it's having sex with an inanimate corpse. A conscious, sentient ghost =/= inanimate corpse.

I always called him Timmy! >> BUT YES. THEY NEED TO GET TOGETHER NOW FOR ANTICS AND ADVENTURE.

Cynthia is wonderful ♥

Also the mom from B/W, she is the best mom in all the games, she needs her own tv series. She can have a subplot in the buddy cop road movie where she is awesome and makes out with all the ladies

I don't have a DS, so I haven't played BW yet. I really wanna know more about BW-mom.

(I played the G4 games on a DS I borrowed from my stepsister years ago. XD I need to buy my own. Maybe next paycheck.)

"so i opted out of crash dieting. instead i'm eating like 1300 calories a day"

Unless you're like 4 feet tall, that's still crash dieting, and super unhealthy.

1) You're giving enough of a shit to keep replying, too. Perhaps I care too much about the love lives of fictional people, but it seems like you care too much about people caring about the love lives of fictional people, which seems even sillier to get worked up about.

2) I like reading romance and I'm a lesbian. F/F might not be the most popular combination to write fic about, but at least on the shippy side of fandom I can reliably find girl/girl stuff that is taken seriously and not written just for straight dudes, not written just by straight dudes, not just porn, not just subtext, not about the token gays, not hugely based on stereotypes, not about big Queer Community! stuff that I don't really get, in a genre I like, and that might have a happy ending.

That combination isn't exactly common anywhere else.

:O

Well, I haven't played it a long time but she's cool! Like, not annoying like certain other moms (lookin' at you gold/silver mom) and her character design is pretty and...SPOILERS towards the end of the game Looker shows up DISGUISED AS YOUR MOM and it's hilarious and I forget the details but Mom seemed friendly to Looker, it was a cute scene

(Anonymous) 2012-10-14 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
His "logic" involves wanting to punish women for not adhering to his own standards of "sexual morality," wherein women should never have sex ever if they're (a) unmarried or (b) not prepared to have a baby. In his mind and the minds of people who think like him, contraception "encourages immoral sexual behavior" and "can act as an abortifacent" (both of which points are, of course, bullshit).

In the issue of "rights vs life," I'm not comfortable with the government violating one person's rights for another's sake. I'm not comfortable with the government violating the rights of anyone who has not committed a crime (thus having those rights restricted through due process of law). I'm definitely not comfortable with the government taking control of one's body away from that person and giving it to another person. That's what happens when a woman is forced to carry a pregnancy to term against her will: ownership of her body is taken away from her and given to the fetus.

The idea that the fetus is "innocent" is irrelevant, as no one is talking about punishing it for anything. Abortion is currently our only way of removing the fetus from somewhere it is not allowed to be. If there were a way to immediately remove the fetus from the unwilling woman while keeping it alive, and that way was no more invasive than abortion, I would advocate that. But right now, no such method exists.

Can you explain the exceptions you offer to the circumstances under which a woman should be forced to give birth (rape, incest, health)? Because the rape and incest exceptions, especially, seem to suggest that in those cases, the woman is not "at fault" for the pregnancy, which seems to suggest that carrying a pregnancy to term is punishment for something. I really hope that's not where this is going.

Advocating laws that would take away ownership of a woman's body away from the woman and give it to someone else is an act of hatred against women, plain and simple. There is no other circumstance in which giving another person ownership of a mentally competent adult's body is legal, not even when lives are at stake.

Oh God, it's the "Americans stand for freedom motherhood apple pie and puppied" fantasisers. Do you READ the newspapers?

Re: continued

(Anonymous) 2012-10-14 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
That's fine. If you ever find yourself in that situation, you can make the choice that you feel is morally correct. What's being disputed here is whether you (or anyone else) has the right to force other women to make the same choice you would.
