SCARS AND BIRTHMARKS

Ok, f!s - here's an interesting question as a follow-up to the genetic quirks thread from yesterday. Do any of you have any scars or birthmarks? If so, what are they and where? If it's a scar, how did you get it?

Personally I don't have a birthmark (although my mom has a really cool one on her leg). I have several minor scars, most of which are fading. The two that are more or less permanent are a chicken pock mark on my forehead (so faded at this point that it's hard to see without the right light) and a scar on my lower right lip from getting stitches when I was a kid. I call it my beauty mark. It's visible under normal circumstances, but it's easier to see if I point it out and then prod on the back of it with my tongue :P

I have a birthmark on my freaking little finger. It has always amused me. At least people surely will be able to recognise my body even if my face gets distorted in a horrible way or whatnot.

I have a lot of birthmarks that are actually flat moles. The funny part is that I have two separate sets of three moles each on my face that each form a triangle.

No birthmarks here, but I also have chicken pox scars on my forehead! Just little dent-like things.

I also have a pretty huge scar on my thigh from a car accident when I was 4 or so. Split the leg right open. I guess the doctors promised my parents it wouldn't scar? But it is a giant super noticable scar. Haha. I used to hate it because whenever I would wear shorts or skirts people would comment on it, and I hate bringing attention to my body. But now I'm okay with it.

And a small little scar where my lip ring used to be. Is that a scar? It's like a dot - looks kind of like there's still a hole but it's totally healed up.

I wasn't always a happy unicorn and have some hidden scars from those sad days. I kind of like them.

I have a ~5 inch scar on my thigh from a slip n'slide accident

To elaborate, it had happened after my sister spent a good hour begging me to use the slip n' slide with her. She even promised she would set it all up by herself and let me have the first turn and I eventually gave in, even though I didn't like slip n' sliding much. Unfortunately, when I went on it I felt this unholy pain in my thigh and started bleeding everywhere. It turns out that she somehow managed to leave the hammer (used to nail in the stakes) under the the slip n' slide and the end of it tore through the plastic when I slid over it.

She felt pretty terrible about it. It's been years, so to me it's just hilarious at this point but she still looks pretty guilty whenever I tease her about it

I have a chicken pock mar right on my right eyebrow. I have a scar on my right knee from either soccer or bike riding and another scar on my inner right forearm from a dog bite.

I don't have any birthmarks As for scars:

One one my ankle: Something medical, but I've had to as long as I can remember, so it was something from when I as little.

One on my wrist: Same as above.

On my neck:
Tracheotomy scar from when I as little.
Another scar from a vocal cord surgery, post-2000.

On my chest:
About four small scars from tubes due to various surgeries, but old and recent (2000)
One on my side from a thoracotomy.
One down my sternum, first from open-heart surgery when I was little, then a heart-lung transplant in 2000.

I have...well, I have a beauty spot and two moles? I also have a number of scars - one where I was bitten by a dog on one of my fingers when I was younger (I still don't like dogs) - one on my chin from where I was larking about and accidentally twisted in mid-air and landed on my face - another one on a different finger where I cut through it with scissors - and I have a kind of scarring on my heel. I tore a muscle in my calf and I didn't let it heal properly so now I have a misshapen Achilles tendon which makes buying shoes even more of a hell than it was before!

No birthmarks for me. I'm pretty pockmarked from moderate to severe acne on my face, back and shoulders, though. Dark little circles of scar tissue everywhere. Kind of sucks. I've also got a large scar running down the side of my right wrist that I got moving a rock salt lamp at work (the device holding the bulb in slipped out and cut me). It's pretty visible when my sleeves don't cover it, but I don't really mind much because it distracts people from my SI scars.

You and I are kinda scar twins. I have a small one in the crease of my lips that actually makes my smile just a tad sharper on that side. It's always visible but it's small and I find people try to not pay attention to my lips so no one really sees it. I got it from falling out of the bed when I was three and smashing my face on the corner bedside drawer. I can't remember if that's what broke the corner or not.

I've got a bunch of scares here and there from lots of places, school, vacation, church. None of them are that interesting or large.

I have a birthmark. It's round as a coin and on my ass. So I can't even show it off.

No birthmarks.

No big scars, but all my fingers have at least one scar from my parents letting me pay with knives when I was young, also a trianglesish formed one on my palm from cutting a carrot...

Oh and on the back of my left shoulder from the BSG vaccine (or wherever you call it), but basically everyone who have gotten that vaccine have it. (It's the one you get when you are 12 in school.)

I also got some scars between my boobs from drunkenly loosing cigarettes down there and yes I've managed to do that more than once, I'm clumsy...

And three dots on both my ears from piercings (from I was 5, 10 and 12, kept hoping I wouldn't have an allergic reaction)

Actually I'm cowered in small scars, apparently I scar easily so even minor cuts form a scar on me. I'll be easy to identify at least, if people know what to look for.

Lots and lots. Some birthmarks, on my legs, face and arms. Scars on my knees, from when I fell down on the ground when I was a child, healed, then fell down again on the same spot. A small scar under my nose, from when I accidentally scraped my face on concrete. A scar under my eyebrow from a fall up some stairs (you can sense a pattern here...). Chicken pox scars.

No birthmarks, tons of scars though. Too many to name, butttt I have one on my thumb from when I was nine and sliced it open trying to feed my cat. The first and only time I ever got stitches. I have one on the back of my right ankle from when my younger sister left a knife on the floor and I backed up into it. Luckily it didn't hurt, it just tingled. Oh, and I have one on my left wrist I've had ever since I could remember. I have no idea where I got it but it's a long line that goes from the bottom of my thumb to the middle of the upper part of my wrist.

I have a scar from a birthmark! :P

I used to have a (fairly large) birthmark on my forehead, right on the hairline. A while back when I was little, I had to have it removed because it had the potential to turn into cancer. So now it's just a scar. It's not really noticeable though - it's where I part my hair.

My knees especially the left on is covered in scars from the time when I slipped and fell on my family's driveway and as it turns out skirts and tights are not great protection from sharp gravel.

On the right side of my forehead there is a long but pretty faint scar (most of the time I don't even notice it) from when I about five or so and while playing in the basement I ran into one of the saws my dad had left out over the side of the workshop he had down there.

I have a birthmark on my ankle and too many moles to count. I've had two moles removed but only one of them scarred. I have a big one on my shoulder blade that we always keep a really close eye on- I'm sure I'll need it off some day, but it's gonna leave a pretty big scar. :\

I have some other little scars- one on my wrist from my friend's mom in a violent game of Spoons that I like to tease her about every New Year's when we play Spoons. Oh, and a big scar on my foot from the goddamn Pacific ocean. I went over to where my sister and brother in law were, and when the waves went back they dragged a lot of sharp rocks and grit over my foot, tearing it up pretty bad. This is among the reasons I don't really like going to the beach much.

I have a lot of self-injury scars from middle school and high school. I actually think scars look really cool, plus I'm pretty comfortable with my history of self-harm, so I don't worry about people seeing them. If they ask, I just tell them how I got it, and that's that.

So I have a lot on my right thigh, a few on my left arm and ankle, and other than that I just have tiny marks here and there (from cat scratches usually :P)

Scar on the back of my left hand that was fairly prominent, but has finally faded after about fifteen years from getting my hand trapped some farming equipment when I was a kid.

Scar across my forehead, just below the hairline from when I firstly managed to fall over onto concrete as a kid and split my head, and later ran into an open window a few years later - exact same point, and hospitalised both times.

The most notable though, is a really deep clean cut between my knee and thigh when a smack head stabbed me between me there with a penknife. If it had been an inch or so either way and there's a good chance I'd have been crippled or even killed, as it was it wasn't that bad - just had to get it cleaned and stitched back up whilst they told me how lucky I was. Good times.

I have a faint scar on the edge between my temple and my forehead. It comes from an incident in third -- no, fourth? -- grade when I was trying to roller-skate, fell down, and had the edge of my glasses cut into my face. I had to get stitches, and there was blood dried into the frames of the glasses for the rest of the year.

I also have two more noticeable scars on my chest and one on my back from mole removal, but that's not nearly as interesting a story.

I have a heart shaped strawberry birthmark on my left forearm in common with my mother. It started out faint and has darkened with age, my mother's is fading. She likes to say it's her birthmark, I'm just stealing it.

I have beauty marks scattered all over my body but my only moles are on the left side of my face about an inch above my lip and the other peeking out of my hairline above my forehead.

No matter how nasty the scar they seem to almost disappear within two years. The only one that has remained, though it's visibly indistinguishable from the surrounding skin, is a raindrops scar on the base knuckle of my thumb.

I forgot I have another visible scar on my right upper arm where I had to cut some metal out from underneath skin that had healed over it but was infected and as I only had one hand I kinda did a piss poor job but it's healed down pretty small.

I have a birthmark on the inside of my wrist the size and shape of the back of a staple (you know, two lines in line). In grade school I used to tell people it was a scar from a stapler.

On my foot I have a really stupid scar. I got a small scratch from a metal ruler - not deep, not impressive, barely noticed it at the time, and it scarred.

I have a huge birthmark behind my ear, like I said yesterday. As for scars, I have a big, blobby one on the back of my left hand from a fireplace accident when I was 16, plus a nick in my right ear from where I was kicked in the head by a horse when I was twelve (explains a lot, doesn't it?). I'm lucky that's all the lasting physical damage I got from that.

Pretty much nothing interesting. No birthmarks (unless you count this little constellation of freckles on my left forearm, the only actual freckles on my body), and the scars are mostly really mundane.

- Right knee, about a centimetre long, from tripping once around age nine or so and jamming said knee against a bit of jagged metal,

- Really faded small burn scar, about an inch long, from my brother accidentally walking into me with a hot frying pan when I was twelve and he was ten,

- Set of small circular ones (extremely faded) on both forearms from age fourteen (my cat got fleas, she used to basically sleep in my arms, I got bitten, I scratched the hell out of them, they scarred - there used to be some on my ankles too, but they've faded beyond recognition),

- Small circular one on the sole of my right foot, stepped on an open ringbinder at age sixteen,

- Small circular one (sensing a theme?) on my right forearm from two years ago, where I managed to get bitten by a (non-venomous) spider and it got infected :| THAT WAS FUN.

Most are really faded and barely visible. The most visible is the one on my knee, actually, despite it being the oldest.

I have a birthmark on my back that I hate, but the only scar I have is a burn mark on the inside of one thigh above the knee. From dropping a curling iron while I was sitting cross-legged on my bed ~_~ A friend asked when I had been riding on the back of a motorcycle because apparently that's the same kind of scar you'd get from the exhaust pipe or something... lol my story is a lot lamer :P
