Portmanteau words in general, no, especially not ones I'm really used to like "smog". It's portmanteau relationship names that put my teeth on edge.

Original Commenter here!

I am Hindu and from a Hindu family, my entire family is vegetarian, my grandmother, mother and myself have all been vegetarian from birth, so have most of my cousins, aunts, etc.

Lots of Hindus are vegetarians. Some eat chicken and fish, but a good chuck of us are vegetarian. In my community (which is Hindu) we were brought up to treat animals with love and respect and that eating them was wrong.

Re: The Walking dethtoll

OMG! OMG! It's the Walking Dead anon from the other day! I missed this thread, sorry! :(

Ep 1's a really good start to the series, and trust me, it gets better and better. Just when you think that it's got to get stale eventually, the game pulls something amazing and unexpected.

And Clementine. God, Clementine. You can't help but not love her. The game is REALLY successful in making you care for her, and want to protect her at all costs. And little girls are usually hated in games too. XD

Let me know how the rest of the series goes for you! I'd love to hear about it. :) And maybe the choices you made too, for fun.~

The first time I saw BNF referred to online I had a moment where I thought everyone else in the discussion were pharmacists too!

I meant things such as background, or what I like. As a woman, I must be straight or full of feminine bias. As a guy, I'm probably anti-feminist, straight, a white knight, etc. I get this from any gender really.

I had a link to a gender guesser once. Basically it would find the ratio of certain words to others (women tend to use more "a" "of" "the"s iirc), but it's probably dependent on American patterns of speech.

I'm also baffled about how it relates to the book, but it's years since I read it. Is it maybe in the way they censor the letters? Anyhow I do get the Latin reference.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-25 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
But are you actually practicing the fundamentals? Are you actually looking at real life things and trying to draw them? Still-lifes? Figures? Copying photos even?

Anyone who thinks that they can become a good artist by just thinking about things and putting them down on paper... it doesn't work like that. You need to understand how to draw a real person or real animal or real object before you can draw it well stylized.

Everyone else seems to mean the other two, and usually give me blank "looks" when I mention the movie.

...and the scented trees.

It was far too funny to me, though my friend was less than amused at my delight in her story.

Possibly they are confused Lost fans?

Most of them just sound so damn cutesy, which is really not appropriate for many pairings.

I ventured into that tag once and they were dogpiling on a fellow fan for using ableist tags or some such nonsense.

There's nothing wrong with the music or the singing.

The rampant autotuning, however, is an embarrassment to real musicians. I feel bad for these poor actors, who are clearly talented, but who rarely get the chance to have their voices properly showcased

Your secret seems to imply that condemning Elementary after having seen it is acceptable, however I don't think the logic of 'based on actual episodes, this is a lazy excuse for a Sherlock Holmes adaptation' will hold much sway with its fans

I think both sides of the fandom war can come together and agree on Wishbone, at least

Thanks for causing me to Wikipedia "folliculitis" :D

Man, I hope I never have to stop shaving my pits. They do get a little irritated after I shave but it's not too bad...I really hate armpit hair though =/

For some reason I am extraordinarily prone to folliculitis. Hopefully I have grown out of it! (It's mostly a childhood and puberty thing.)

Tbh I also stopped shaving partly because I quite like underarm hair. Would have soldiered on if it really bothered me.

THANK YOU.

Once you get away from a handful of shrieking rage-monkeys on tumblr and ontd, nobody in the world actually cares about this "war" between the shows. Watch one of them, watch both, watch neither - and so what?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-26 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
+100

Thanks for this: that's a really good explanation, I think, of why I didn't care for Elementary all that much. It's not because Watson's a woman, or it's set in New York, or anything like that - you could definitely keep a more Doyle-like feel with both those factors intact. Seriously, if you're going to keep the character names and not even try to use Doyle's frameworks for plots or characterization or anything...then why keep the character names? Doyle wasn't the greatest writer or plotter ever--but he was a lot better than the Elementary scriptwriters!

Elementary isn't even the first time that either Watson or Holmes have been female! There have been a couple adaptations that did that, including a Russian one where they were both women. It's not all that groundbreaking. All that fan-hype about how incredibly feminist and progressive it is....haha, no, not once you've actually watched it!

It's not terrible. It's fine popcorn TV. But not liking it is not a sign of flawed character.

Yeah your right. And The one shot where they are reincarnated in CLAMP school is called "Shining star". :)
