As a bit of a rivethead and an anime fan, I might disagree. The lyrical content of Covenant or VNV Nation, talking about honor and love and so forth could make for a kick-ass high energy AMV for a magical girl series, perhaps.

Thank you.

Clamp has made several canon gay couples. I really think the only reason they didn't tack on some extra dialogue confirming KuroFai (a la Touya/Yukito) is because Tsubasa is the most boys-oriented series they've done.

I can't really consider Clamp to fit into that category, at least how it's applied to Supernatural/Merlin/etc. They were cautious about their gay couples, but they did go there several times. Cardcaptor Sakura really shocked me, for example - it's such a kiddie series, it was published in the 90s, but they had Yukito unambiguously say his feelings.

I know they do it. I just think it's a tad more rare than them teasing to do it.

Dang, wish there was a site like that for live-action fanvids.

I love this post. Enjoying a genre doesn't meant you must enjoy *all* of that genre, or *only* that genre.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-26 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Mine too - I'd only ever seen it in the context of, say, Snapefen, so I thought it had something to do with female apologists for a given character.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-26 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry, did you somehow miss the basic plotline that Snow White is prettier than the Evil Queen, i.e., the Evil Queen's whole reason for wanting to kill her? I have never seen the Disneyfied version that people confuse for the original deviate from this basic story.

I seriously don't get why some people are so butthurt about portmanteaus. It's convenient. Get over it.

It makes fandom stuff so much easier and it's quicker to write out a portmanteau then type character x character, especially since portmanteaus are 100% effective for tagging purposes.

NA

Them, or some other band. Though the thing I remember the most was the other fans sneering over that not being hardcore enough.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-26 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
...yeah, maybe don't tell her.

My BBC Sherlock fan friends were all 'who the fuck would like this shit?' And I'm all...not saying 'me' because I don't want their condemnation.

I blog it under another fandom name not connected to my main one.

Just the other day my friend pointed out that the ship name for DeWitt/Dominic (from Dollhouse, whose fandom is so small it doesn't really use portmanteaus) would be Demonic. Which I thought was just awesome.

For terrible ones, absolutely anything at all from the Buffyverse fandom. Some particularly "great" ones: Spawn/Dike, Fuffy, Spander, Spillow, Fawn, Frunn.

Snacon and Otake aren't very flattering either. And how the fuck do people navigate the Pokemon fandom? Does everyone keep a spreadsheet or something?

Mine are boring, like stupidanon1 and stupidanon2. Ever since people called my real secrets trolls, I've been making troll secrets instead.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
