Entitled? Not precisely. Very confident in your own abilities. Not being familiar with your work, the original material, or fanworks in general in this fandom, I can't judge how accurate your assessment is.

You definitely sound like a dick. I can't judge you completely, because I sometimes play around in fandoms whose original material I don't think very highly of, either. However, my explanation for my actions is, "I don't really care for the source [optional politely phrased reasons], but I think the [premise/characters/setting] have a lot of great potential, so I like to play in the sandbox."

I have no way to judge you personally (maybe you are just that talented of a comic creator) but 99% of the time when I hear someone say 'better than canon', what they really mean is 'focuses on things I like more than canon does'. In the Harry Potter or Naruto fandom I've sometimes had people recommend me fics that they considered better than canon, and, well, they weren't. What they were, though was better forbidden love stories than canon, or better stories of political intrigue than canon, or so on and so forth. As someone who isn't particularly interested in those things, I thought the stories were way, way, worse than canon; the people who recced them to me, though, loved them.

I guess my point here is that there's nothing wrong with liking your headcanon better than canon; it's uniquely tailored to you, after all, in a way no one else's canon could ever be. That doesn't make you actually better than the canon creator or other fans, though. It just means you're good at creating stories you'd like to read.

This is the general attitude of good Hetalia writers, though, isn't it? Almost all the work is AU to a certain extent because they like the idea of the comic far more than the actual canon.

I really wish DrOP fandom was more like this, just so people would stop screaming that X detail isn't canon.

You can't know if your headcanon is better unless you have people read it who aren't familiar with the source.

Afterwards, you can out yourself and see if fans drift over out of a stupid sense of familiarity and solidarity. And that's when you can drop the hammer on them that you built yours out of scorn and see who's masochistic enough (or just able to deal with the dissonance) to stick around.

One of the best things being part of the Hetalia fandom was the amazing quality of fanworks that came out of a comic/anime that really wasn't all that great.

But you do sound like a dick. Lots of people have been able to use the characters and create amazing characterizations off of canon.

I'm not in the Hetalia fandom nor have I ever seen it, but... aren't they right? What is the point of an elaborate headcanon if the other people in the fandom don't want to hear it? Why NOT just make your own comic, if it's that much better? At least then you might have the chance of actually sharing it with appreciative people.

If you absolutely can't bring yourself to do that, then... openly slamming the source material probably isn't helping you, either. Why would they want to read a 'fan' work by someone who hates the source? Tact can go a long way. Pretend at least a little interest or enjoyment of the original and they might be more inclined to give you a chance. But why would they expect your stuff to be any different from the kind of hatefic that is typically made by people who profess to dislike a particular fandom?

So you think you're special for developing intricate headcanons and semi-abandoning canon? Well incoming newsflash. So did a lot of people. Fandom has taken the concept of human countries and vamped it up with more in-depth interpretations. Not just you. It's not that difficult to be "better" than canon because adding more historical analysis is taking it in a different direction better suited to your tastes than the original comics (which were intended for comedy and not drama). That's not new or wrong so get off your high horse for goodness' sake.

Saying you're an arrogant dick doesn't mean that someone thinks the sun shines out the author's ass. Liking the actual canon better than your head canon doesn't mean that either. However, ranting about how you basically hate everything in a fandom *except* your headcanons? Means that you should probably get the fuck out of that fandom and do your own original work [even if you have no intention of publishing it/letting other's see it].

I'm so over this series already, but I dare you to take the time and effort to make something of your own. Sooner or later, you'll get the same sort of reaction from other people because what they would feel what they had imagined would be better than what you've thought up.

You're not special. You can talk all you want how you've make a better series, but in the end, you're probably just going to end up borrowing half the characters anyway.

Dude I rped with someone exactly like this back in the day. She played America as a genius who did nothing but talk about how much he hated Obama and continually claimed that her headcanon was better and more accurate than canon.
I think she also had a storyline where he and Canada inherited like, the powers of Native American gods and it was really fucking offensive and it makes me mad just thinking about it.
