It's because she is a terrible person, but she's honest about it, and in ways most other people have experienced enough that they see themselves in her. Reading her blog makes people go "oh, good, it's not just me then, but being selfish and impulsive and irresponsible sometimes makes me human, not evil, and that's okay."

I don't really see how Hyperbole and a Half is a horrible person? I haven't gone through the whole archive, but to me it seems as though the more selfish stories are all from her childhood. Which, whatever. Kids are selfish jerks a lot of the time. I don't think they make her a bad person today.

Look, how much of real life can YOU keep up with and still update a comic? I don't even care if it's drawn in paint with stick figures. Everyone has a different creative pace. Everyone has a different amount of stories and inspiration to draw from. Everyone has different reasons for everything.

I know if I were in her shoes, I'd never get past the second update, much less a book deal.

She doesn't owe you jack shit. You sound like a needy asshole yourself, too.

Her comic was about embellishing the awkward stupid things that people do anyway, and I don't think you're supposed to be taking it as a 100% representation of the author, as people have said. If her comics tell me anything about her, it's that people like you and your entitlement are a dead weight on creativity, because nothing makes you want to draw less than a guilt trip.

I like most of her comics that I've seen a lot, but I'm really not a fan of the Alot (well, the thing itself is cute,) because it's obnoxious and has empowered grammar nazis everywhere to be even more assholish. I haven't gotten that "she's a bad person" vibe overall, though, so perhaps I haven't read enough of her work, or maybe my "bad person" detector is broken?

That said, as someone who's dealing with depression myself, I really hope she does feel better soon, and I like that she's putting it out there and talking about it.

OP, I love HaaH, including the "shitty" artwork (isn't that kind of the point?), but I'm really disappointed at its lack of updates. And I've never heard of the other blog - I wonder if it's as well-known? But I'm glad you posted this because now I have another cool-looking blog to check out!

ETA: I didn't realize her depression was still going on and that's why she isn't updating. To me, that is understandable. I hope she gets better soon =(

1) The terrible drawings are part of the joke and a preference thing. You don't like the style? Fine, but that doesn't mean we can't.

3) As other people have said, Allie has severe depression. She commented somewhere a few months ago that that's why she hasn't been posting, not because of her impending book deal.
