21. Anyone who is into make believe stuff is just as much of a "geeky looser"/[ description of your choice ] as the person who likes anime. It's all the same animated/drawn stuff :\

21. I think it's stupid when people think that they're better than someone who 'still' likes anime, as if they've personally 'grown out' of it. In all honesty I don't really think it's POSSIBLE to grow out of anime, because there's an anime out there for everyone, at any age. And besides, in my opinion a cartoon is a cartoon, no matter which country it came from.

For a while now I've been avoiding calling myself an 'anime fan' because on the whole, I don't like a lot of it. I like a few shows that would fall under the anime category, but I don't like them BECAUSE they're anime, I like them because I think they're great shows.

Anime is just Japan's way of cartooning. It IS different than American cartooning but mostly because most Americans view cartoons as for children (though I disagree), and Japan tends to think cartoons are for everyone. Because of this, a lot of cartoons in America are predominately juvenile, where as Japan has an EXCESS of animated shows out for every age group.

But Japan still has their fair share of plotless, storyless shows, with no real character development; And America has a great lot of cartoons that AREN’T just a half hour of fart jokes and fodder (ex. Avatar). Avatar having a storyline and developed characters doesn’t make it an anime, and it doesn’t make it LIKE an anime either- it just means that Avatar has a story and character development, which isn’t exclusive to Japanese cartooning.

I guess Avatar’s animation deals with a lot of emotions as anime does (ex. the teardrop, etc.) but I think that’s just because America is trying to appeal to this new popularity of Japan’s style of animation.

Anyway, SORRY LONG COMMENT IS LONG. D: I'm just trying to say I think it's stupid to look down on people for liking either anime or American cartoons, because neither side is better than the other. CARTOONS ARE CARTOONS, YO. D:

This comment wins at life. :) That's everything I've wanted to say on the topic, but much more coherent and readable than I could write out.

#12, what fandom please?

(writing a paper on the presentation of seizure disorders in the media, any source helps!)

Re: 12

(Anonymous) 2007-08-27 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
It's from the 1999 Masterpiece Theater version of Oliver Twist. The character Monks (Played by British actor Marc Warren) has terrible seizures a few times in the film with vastly different reactions. The character also had them in the original novel as well, but as they were known back then as "fits." (You probably knew that though.)

The actor and the writers did serious research into epilepsy. To fit the character they decided that he would have Complex Partial Epilepsy. The actor has even worked for a British Epilepsy charity.

Hope that helped!

#2 All I see is an insolent puppy chasing its tail. *shakes head* It's been repeatedly posted, but let me just reiterate, those so-called "Holier Than Thou" fanbrats exist everywhere, be it in the yaoi, het or yuri fandoms. Also, no kinds of shipping makes you any better than anyone, not even equally shipping those three, mmkay? Varying tastes people, varying tastes!

Other than that, Alexiel/Lucifel FTW!

#7 Agreedxinfinity. They're all soooo effing hot not to molest...er, yeah. XD

#11 How's that a secret? o_0

11

(Anonymous) 2007-08-26 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
could be considered a secret because not a lot of fans find Jet hot. he's not a 'bishounen' but an 'old, half bald, muscle guy'. the moment a fan says 'oh he's hot' they usually get set on with a lot of 'eeeeeewwwwwww's.

19. PROTIP:

Your fandoms are too small for a secret, eh? You'll be nailed right away? Not necessarily! Here are some exciting and wonderful ways to avoid being pinned:

- Keep your secrets short and sweet; the less sordid details we know, the harder it is to figure you out.
- Avoid using the name of the character or series your secret is about. Don't lie, just omit.
- Use pictures that don't denote which fandom you're in, or don't use a background at all.

Practice this a bit and you'll be untraceable in no time! Guaranteed or your money back.

See, though, we Avatar fans have the privilege of looking down on everyone else, it's just that good.

Re: 21

(Anonymous) 2007-08-27 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
I know it is! I'm a fan of Avatar myself! I just used Naruto as the example for that secret because it's well-known and easily identifiable as an anime. I am not going to argue that it's better than Avatar or that it's the best anime out there because it's not, especially with how part II's developing. There are plenty of series out there that are amazing. I think, when it all boils down, why should specialized interests make one person better than the other?

I hate to sound whiney, and I probably am, but this is one of the big reasons why I made #21.
