FREAKING K, MAN. Kaaaaaaay.

/had to get that out of my system

I know where you're coming from, though--not so much with anime, but I've had friends give some of my favorite tv shows a pass because the actors weren't hot enough. It's a sad thing. :(

(Anonymous) 2013-01-08 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Ookiku Furikabutte is superior to 99% anime titles. Just sayin'.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-08 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It's about baseball, which means it's not my cup of tea and I'll never give it a chance, so I can't comment on whether it's good or not. But considering I've only heard it mentioned a couple times before this secret, I'm sure there are plenty of people who tried it and didn't like it.

I can't get over how obviously yaoi bait-y K is. I can't even ship it because it's just so try hard bait-y.

Am I making any sense

(Anonymous) 2013-01-09 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. I get what you're saying exactly.

...I would ship in K anyway, but I prefer healthy relationships myself, and there's practically none in there.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-09 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
They tried too hard with the Yata/Fushimi foe yay but imo Fatso/Yata, hell even Mikoto/dead-kun was 80% better.

i've seen this yaoi-baity comment a lot and while yes, it was obviously advertising the fuck out of the dudeships and was 100% aware of its audience, i didn't really think it detracted from anything? i guess yaoi-bait as a term just makes me cringe by how it's thrown around to dismiss pretty much anything with pretty boys who interact/seem to have any kind of closeness nowadays. and this isn't even in response to this comment as much as a general observation/thinking out loud but: i keep thinking how, had they beed advertising three sets of main het relationships, there wouldn't have been nearly as much noise, good or bad, about this show. is there even a word for shows that advertise het relationships? pretty sure they're not described as "bait for fans who are interested in watching a male and female character interact."

i'm honestly not even trying to be snappy but just trying to wrap my head around this whole thing because it makes me a little :|

I'm always looking for good anime. Somebody tell me more about Ookiku Furikabutte and why I should watch it.

It's about baseball and it's pretty cute/funny at points. That said, I don't know why OP is even comparing these shows and their fandoms. Ookiku Furikabutte is classified as humor (I'm not too familiar with it myself.) Kuroko no Basket is more on the drama end of things, and K is drama/action. They're entirely different genres.

It's a sports anime where all the sports is realistic, everyone has realistic abilities, and the personalities are 3-d and endearing in every way. There is no EVIL RIVAL SPORTS TEAM, there are just people on the other teams (and you will cry for the losing teams). All the characters are sweet, and everything about it is great.

OKAY LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT OOFURI.

This is, first off, the best fandom I have ever been a part of! I have made some of the best friends in it, it has a surprisingly good amount of fanfic for how small the non-Japanese fanbase is, there is TONS of fan art (most of it actually fluffy cute although there is some porn too tbh-- hard not to have that when in episode #2 one of the boys stands up in the bus and is all "oh no I forgot to masturbate!").

Also: a love of sports or baseball is NOT REQUIRED to enjoy Oofuri. Oofuri does its work well in making baseball seem fun, even to people who otherwise could care less about sports. This is not just me: a lot of fans come into Oofuri without caring about baseball at all.

But forgetting about the fandom, the anime series is just GOOD. It's animated by A1 Pictures, who also animates series such as Ao no Exorcist, Shin Sekai Yori, AnoHana, Tsuritama, Magi: the Labyrinth of Magic... several well known series from recent years. The storyline is just the most refreshingly honest and realistic portrayal of high school life I've seen in anime, and it's just exceedingly sweet and full of amazingly complex characters... the complexity of the characterization is something I had never expected going into it, but wow it's just AMAZING.

But anyway, if you are real serious about wanting to be convinced, I actually wrote a nearly 10,000 word ship manifesto for the main Oofuri pairing a couple years back. Despite being a shipping manifesto I also consider it a manifesto to sell the series just in general, because I explain some of the basic plot things and try my best to show why it's something that is TRULY TRULY WONDERFUL and why I LOVE IT SO MUCH.

My manifesto can be found here and at the bottom of the page I list all sorts of links to fandom resources that would be good for a new fan/potential fan to look into.

Right now the fandom is kind of in a quiet stage, mostly I think because we are all waiting for the third anime series to be announced. I have no doubts whatsoever that one WILL be announced. Oofuri is VERY popular in Japan, both as an anime and a manga, and even though the second series wasn't licensed for non-Japanese audiences, it did very well in it's own home country, and that's really all it takes to feel sure that more will eventually coming down the pipe.

OP I think your main problem is that Oofuri isn't a currently airing anime series. Anime fans tend to like to follow new stuff. ( I guess to share the excitement with others?)

I don't know anything about K but I love both Oofuri and KuroBasu. I'd say Oofuri has a better story, but KuroBasu is on par when it comes to homoerotic subtext. Where KuroBasu wins is in the muscles department. Roka was the only real eyecandy for me on that front!

Also I'm amused that you used an image of Seirin rather than the properly technicolor Kiseki.

OP

(Anonymous) 2013-01-09 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Also I'm amused that you used an image of Seirin rather than the properly technicolor Kiseki.

Well, my friends seem to ship Kuroko with the Redhead whose name escapes me, so I figured Seirin was a more accurate choice than Kiseki ^^;

And you're probably right about the currently airing anime. They're all on tumblr, too, so it makes sense that they'd rather watch something they can have weekly squee over through there. Maybe I'll wait to rec it when one of them is looking for something to watch in the off-season...

On the upside, this secret managed to get all the other Oofuri fans out of the woodworks, so that makes me happy C:

No offence but I'm never going to slash Ookiku Furikabutte. Most of characters looks like elementary school children, and I'm just not finding that sexy. No amount of ho yay is going to change that. Perhaps it's similar case for your friends?

And yes, I know Kuroko characters are not legal either, but at least they LOOK older.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-09 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
It's just like PoT, apparently they're elementary school kids?

like I mean a homogeneous art style is one thing but she's literally the same picture as most of the other guys in this shot, what's up with that

I'll be honest: I used to like Ookiku Furikabutte.
But then the manga got boring and I couldn't keep reading anymore. If there's a new season for the anime, I'm not sure I'll watch it.

KnB at least is still fun. Can't say anything about K, as I have yet to watch it.

[personal profile] autumnal 2013-01-09 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
hah I'm one of those people who recently devoured K and KnB largely because they were shoved in my face left, right and centre and looked like fun, whereas I think I've only really heard of Oofuri a handful of times (it's still on my to-watch list though). Also, to be fair to KnB and K, THERE IS ACTUALLY A LOT OF HO-YAY so at least it's not false advertising?? (K is kind of gloriously shameless about it too, which, apparently has some people up in arms and that alone cracks me up.) I thought they were both a lot of fun though!

(Anonymous) 2013-01-09 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
Well K is pretty gay. I feel like the entire story was a tragic love story of the Red King seeking revenge against the person who killed his husband. That quest is literally worth dying for him. So tragic.

That said, I did love Ookiku Furikabutte and its subtext. Love how sports animes just hand you pairings XD

(Anonymous) 2013-01-09 07:49 am (UTC)(link)
Ookiku was pretty big when it first came out, but it's been years. You're comparing it to two currently running shows, of course they're getting more hype.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-09 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Kuroko no Basket? Mentioned in one sentence with K and Ookiku Furikabutte? Must watch it then.
K was great (until they decided to not let my favourite pairings happen) and Ookiku Furikabutte is equally great (I've only read the manga and saved every third page because of all the Ho Yay).

(Anonymous) 2013-01-11 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
OOFURI SECRET! MWAHHHHHHH!!!

Sorry, I just got... a little bit excited. I may or may not have every episode on my computer...
