12. wow... I didn't think anyone else thought that way XD;;;

24. I've though that before :>
They just seem to get along better, to me...

10. Yes! I always worry about telling someone I like the movies cause I'm 20, and I get the "But you're supposed to be mature" and stuff. I can be mature and still like stuff like HSM and HSM2. (I cried too at the second one. It was so CUTE!)

14- YES YES YES. Totally sunk my ship too. XD

19- ARRGH SHE'S TERRIFYING. Ew ew ew. I'll be going and eating as much as I can now. Ick ick ick. Can't believe anyone would PAY HER.

1. It's even worse when they pull that kinda stuff in a series that doesn't even take place in Japan. Sometimes the only reason characters speak a certain language is because that's the language of the person that wrote it, not because they actually speak it. :|b

17. I actually really like that picture too, though I'm not a fan of the pairing really at all. But yeah, that happening would've been so out of place in the movie; even in the series. The romantic relationships, for the most part, have always been pretty much non-existent in favor of the actual plot because it would just get in the way.

17

[identity profile] repeatvoffender.livejournal.com 2007-08-30 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude. I've been trying to explain that to anyone willing to listen for years now. Most people that are willing to listen already agree though.

15. KuroFay is already the most popular pairing in the fandom. It doesn't need more fans. However I don't think their relationship would change if one of them were female. Just because someone's gender changes doesn't mean their personality will. If Kurogane was female, he'd still get annoyed with Fay all the time for the first half of the series and still do anything to save Fay's life during Acid Tokyo. Come to think of it, if you leave off the angst part het!KuroFay would be a lot like Sorata/Arashi.

16. DtB is awesome! It needs more fans. Ditch Bleach for it! :P

[identity profile] enjolras.livejournal.com 2007-08-29 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Yeah, it kind of weirds me out when people say they pronounce L's name as "eru" in real life. :\ IT'S JUST "L".

8. Just wanted to say... I agree about the compliment things. :S

9. LAND BEFORE TIME ROOOOCKS. ♥ I was so obsessed with it as a kid~ I loved the songs!

17. Ooooh, very pretty picture. :DDDDDD But if that had happened, it'd be kind of.... random, lol.

[identity profile] aviy.livejournal.com 2007-08-29 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
5. VARILY. Not that I've watched G-Wing recently enough to say one way or another, but a lot of great female characters get that =\ I kind of want to smack a bitch when I see Aeris insulted for being a mary-sue or Tifa insulted for being Not-Aeris. argh \o/ Their both fantastic female characters without need of Cloud or super powers to define them by. And I'm glad there is someone out there who plays Relena and does it well and gives the character some credit.

8. .........4-chan with pictures you say.

11. *pats*

20. I like it when I like reading my own fanfic =\

(Anonymous) 2007-08-30 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
{{OP}}

Exactly. I can't stand the Tifa-Aeris debate, either. I think both sides are stupid and need to realize it's only a video game and you shouldn't vehemently hate a fictional person like that. It's a little obsessive.

Fandom needs more woman love.

[identity profile] aeris-888.livejournal.com 2007-08-29 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
#16 I like that series, sadly, I'm not really loving it as much as I wish I could; it feels too much like a pale imitation of cowboy bebop, IMO.*shrugs* I also find Hei a wee bit bland. Now, if the lead characters were November 11 and Misaki, I'd probably be all over it. XD

#24 Yeah, I felt that way too when I used to watch this show.

[identity profile] crackjaw.livejournal.com 2007-08-30 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
16. Darker than Black...like Cowboy Bebop? That's a new one.

1. Is it sad that my first reaction to that secret was "NEEDS MOAR DESU?!"

Every time I see the word "desu", I think of that. It's a wonder I can even watch Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni, since Rika ends half of her sentences with "desu".

15. I thought it was the other way around? That is Fai and Kurogane was a het pairing, it'd be... less popular? or maybe I'm just reading the secret wrong, which in that case I will lern2read and go back to grade school. Either way, I agree - it is the dynamics that makes most pairings popular.

19. Is there some new fad to blame eating disorders on fandom? Fandom didn't make you do anything, you and your inability to get help for your disorder is what is causing your anorexia.

[identity profile] soaker87.livejournal.com 2007-08-29 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
4- It's possible to like lolicon with out being a pedo.

20. So do I. I write the kind of thing I'd enjoy reading myself.

22. What's wrong with 13 year-olds at cons? I was around that age at my first con.

[identity profile] liltigre.livejournal.com 2007-08-30 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
I think the issue stems from the fact that there's now a growing generation gap in anime/manga fandom. Personally, I don't mind 13-year-olds at a con as long as they have parents around, and as long as they don't run around madly squeeing at the tops of their lungs or trying to sneak into the adult panels. Younger fans seem to look at fandom differently than us old farts, and it clashes at times.

I read it all the way to the end, but other then that I think I could have made this secret.
I love Rem. She's my favorite character in the series, and it makes me so sad that more people don't love her.
All the attention is directed to the boys, and I love the boys, but come on. You know?

Poor baby.

#17

Oh my god. I totally agree. I don't love them really, but they make me extremely warm and fuzzy, and if it had been made cannon, I don't think that fuzziness would have stayed. It was so much more... professional for them to be implied. It would have caused a lot more drama and have been unnecessary.

17.

[identity profile] repeatvoffender.livejournal.com 2007-08-30 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
My thoughts exactly.

Which has a lot to do with why I prefer the anime to the manga.

[personal profile] icarus_suraki 2007-08-29 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I know that feeling. So very well. I'm 25 myself, too. I was one of the younger ones there when I went to my first con at age fifteen. Have I gotten older or have cons aged down? I still enjoy them, so I don't think I'm going to give them up.

And it's really fun to go to the dealers' room with some real money now that I'm older and have a real income.

Re: 22 (OP)

(Anonymous) 2007-08-30 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the con audience has aged down a little, as far as I can tell; a lot of that probably has to do with the fact that manga and anime are much easier to get at now than they were when I was getting into it.

One of the biggest bummers for me, though, is simply not being able to find fans who've heard of some of the older series I like (especially Slayers).

But I agree with you on the dealer's room. It's so great not having to borrow from parents or friends to buy stuff. :)

[identity profile] pretentioustfu.livejournal.com 2007-08-29 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
5: It's cool you came to like a character you once hated, but please don't become condescending over it. Maybe that's not your intent, but could you be very careful to not trash yaoi fans in expressing your love for Relena or het in general? Since as far as I knew, it's not a necessary part of becoming an adult for EVERYONE to fall in line and love het pairings or characters (male or female) that some people have good reason for being annoyed with.

For example, I do NOT like Meryl Stryfe in Trigun. I can barely tolerate her even with the best of writers (lilithisbitter, Glass Bullet), and with almost any other writer (especially from the subset of fanwriters whose characterization of "Meryl's a repressed submissive fembot who just wandered in from 'Sex in the City'," depressingly describes a LOT of the Vash x Meryl smut).

This doesn't make me any less of even a fan (I just prefer the canon incarnation where she's better written and around less), and it certainly doesn't make me any less of a person or an adult. (I'll tell you if I'm ever carded on my shipping prefs. ^_^). It just makes me someone who doesn't like Meryl Stryfe or the Vash x Meryl pairing in general, and since there's many people who DO, there's no need to be upset about one who doesn't.

15: Y halo thar, gender roles! I'm a yaoi/slash fan. When I argue that a pairing would be more popular if the characters were opposite genders, I'm assuming the dynamics stay exactly the same. And yes, IMO, it IS that squick over "ewww plz nooo not THAT" that divides a lot of the angrier shipping lines in fandom.

19: Is it just me, or are a lot these ana secrets bragging about how thin the OP is? Seriously, WTF. Yes, you're not a "fat weeaboo." We get it. Now go eat some food (or go starve, I don't care).

19

(Anonymous) 2007-08-30 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Where the fuck did you get me bragging about how thin I am out of 'fandom makes me want to lose weight'? I didn't even mention how much I weigh! Nobody knows I'm anorexic, I'm not proud of it, and I'm trying to stop, but all of my fandom heroes being unrealistically thin is not helping me. That's my secret. If it's a complaint against anything, it's a complaint against the common practice of making people unrealistically thin in manga, not a complaint against (what the fuck?) 'fat weeaboo'.

Not every fucking secret is about you or trying to insult you. Get the fuck over yourself.

2. I wanted to cry when Rem died. I thought it was nicely animated, too. ;-; And nobody cared...

16. kfeshkjheakhf Darker than BLACK is awesome. I'm loving it (even if the Huang arc ended... in a retarded way... and that arc with the Yakuza kid and doll...) I love Kirihara, MI-6, Amber, Hei, Huang, Mao, Yin, Wei, Saitou, Kouno (WHERE DID HE GO?) and Eric Nishijima (lol @ his name). Ugh, can I say I love them all? I love how Hei is just a bland character who is changing because of the stuff that have been occurring. I still want Amber/Hei and Saitou/Kouno to happen. D:

20. I do too, occasionally. I think liking what you write is an important part of writing. If YOU don't like what you write, you don't expect anyone else to. But if you do like what you write, at least one person is happy.

8) Sadly, 4chan has pictures too. *shudders* But really, I'm just sick of all the 'I♄ DIS PAIRING BUT SHHHHH' secrets.

11) Try writing short stories or very long one-shots. I've seen many BNFs that have never written a single multi-chapter fic.

20) What do you write? Maybe I'll like reading it, too. 8Dd

3. Oh, I hear you. It's lovely to avoid drama, but... it's also a pain in the butt whenever you mention the series and NOBODY has heard of it. so there's no one else to squee and write porn with. :(

22. Oh, don't! Hell, I'm 27 and I'm the youngest in the group of people I went to Anime North with. I think that's one reason why i enjoyed it so much- older fans were there, even to the point of having a panel dedicated to the trial and tribulations of older fans. (And let's not get into the adult fanfic forum....) The young kids are annoying, but in a good con they're also controlled. You're younger than I am! Don't give up! D:

9. Awww ^^ I used to do the same thing with my cousins only. . .I didn't fall for them. XD

15. AMEN

20. Me too. XD In fact I write fanfic more for myself (so I can read it later) than for fellow fans.

23. Totally unrelated to the secret: That looks like my cat.

7. *salutes* One freak, reporting for duty, sah!

I proudly admit to being an RPSer. My feelings won't change just because you think I'm a freak. There are far weirder things about me than the fact I like slashing pretty male comedians (and let it be known I am by far not the only one who does this).

Look, you don't have to like RPS. You don't have to like anything. Not my problem. I don't care if you like horror, don't like fantasy, read chick lit, whatever. You like what you like. I like what I like. There is no law that says we have to like the same things.

Although I do find it amusing you like RPF though. Most anti-RPSers I've come across don't like any form of RPF, slash or otherwise.

But, whatever. Seriously. To each their own.

*runs off to finish writing more slashfic*

I work in Walt Disney World right now, and at our MGM studios we have HSM 1 and 2 pep rallies where people sing and dance and all sorts of things. It's insane. I really dislike HSM but there you go.

In any case, you're probably wondering why I'm replying, it's that mostly kids aren't at these events. It's 20-somethings who are really into it. One of my roommates is nuts for it and she's thrilled she gets to dance every day in the pep rallies.

So you're not alone. Now by a long shot.
