I do not think that's gross. You can pretty much convince me of any shipping permutation with the right story.

I just watched FMA this year; I haven't gotten around to Brotherhood yet, so I haven't really delved into the fandom. I take there are some heated shipping wars, yes? LOL

I used to be really into the FMA fandom when it was huge and yes, there were TONS of shipping wars. RoyxEd, EdxAl, EdxWinry, and RoyxRiza, were the big ones at the time. Even so there were still lots of nice people and a lot of them were pretty chill about shipping.

Finally there's a place for me to ask: Where is the FMA fic? Are there LJ comms? Is there a site? I tried ff.net, but the less is said about that, the better.

The only really active LJ comm any more is FM_Herald. It's also 'mirrored' on DW, but I'm not sure if as much is posted there as on LJ.

Other semi-active LJ comms:

FMA_Slash and FMA_Ladyfest do stuff annually. FMAbigbang is in it's third or fourth year of participation. I run FMAgiftexchange and just put up the Valentine post.

FMA_Herald on LJ also provides links to all the posts to a variety of comms on any given day.

This seems like a good place to ask this.

Is the fandom divided up by canon? Like all the FMA people over here and the Brotherhood people over here and never the twain shall meet? Or is it more like Marvel fandom where you've got comics and movieverse fandoms more or less peacefully coexisting with some crossover between them?

It's more the anime vs. the manga rather than anime vs. brotherhood.

Very divisive, but less so now. Anime fans are harder to find in fandom any more except sometimes on FFN.

I find that it's more FMA anime vs. Brotherhood/manga. Since Brotherhood came out a lot of people have moved on to that. There are still die hard FMA anime fans tho.

Brotherhood has also created more shipping wars between Roy/Ed and Ed/Winry, Roy/Riza. But that's pretty normal fandom stuff. But I think for the most part, people coexist.

Sadly, there's been a huge first series/everything else divide going on, and I think a lot of the first anime fans have been slowly edged out of the fandom.
I mean, I write in movieverse, which since Brotherhood has become even more reviled, but I'm not really terribly active in the fandom anymore. And the state of the fandom now isn't really getting me back in :(
I don't think there's much crossover, either.

I haven't read the series in question, but I don't think Roy/Ed/Winry is any grosser than any of the other ship permutations, unless people are anti-poly (which would be A SHAME in this fandom.)

But if that's not the ship they like, they don't have to write it to make the fic better to you. People aren't bad for not wanting to write an OT3 to solve shipping arguments.

Except the author obviously didn't want to write Roy/Winry/Ed. I personally like Winry as a character but don't like her as a love interest for anyone, so I would never write her into a pairing I do like.

Back when I was reading FMA fic, I'd have eaten Roy/Ed/Winry up with a spoon and asked for more. FMA was actually a pretty darned good fandom when it comes to finding people interested in rarepairs. I certainly never lacked for fic when I went searching for them.

I like to think it was because the source material was full of interesting and developed characters which then inspired fic.
