This is my LEAST favorite part of all the "choices" Bioware games let you make: People complaining when others take options they don't like.

I've heard people claim that if you leave Vette's collar on and keep zapping her she "gets to like it" .... yeah, right. >.<

I think most of the SWTOR romances might be ... less than optimal, tbh. My smuggler is already feeling smothered by Corse and we're only level 19 ( and from what I hear he gets stalkery and very possessive later). Aric? Not going there, he seems like he'd be evern more of a control freak. Even Mako - who I generally really like, and as a LS BH I'm over 8000/10,000 already at level 17 - has tossed off some stupendously insipid comments now and again when I gain points.

*shrug* more proof that YMMV, I guess.

(My hardcore opinion? Stick to [Flirt] options. Allow flirting to be tossed at whomever the PC wishes (Nem'ro's twi'lek secretary, forex: she already makes adorably flirty comments to both genders. My female Chiss completely wanted to date her. :p)

Hehehehe. I've never played The Old Republic, but every time I play Knights of the Old Republic, no matter how good or bad my character is, I always tell that one waitress "Your order's up, Sister! *kaboom*"

You roll up a dark side character just to do that to the woman in the Black Vulkar base?

I do the same to her every time when I play my favorite DS Revan, but I know that's a totally asshole thing to do. It's IC for the character I'm playing, yet I don't take special joy in playing that particular part.

What the OP is talking about are people who enjoy mistreating Vette and will go dark side just to do that. It's pretty popular, I hear.

I'm not very far into the game yet (I'm still on Tatoonine) but so far Vette is the only character I'm nice too. There are even times I choose the lightside option because I know it's what Vette would want. So far the biggest challenge I find in the game is being evil while keeping Vette happy. I want her to be my BFF since romancing her isn't an option.

Mole-face is the annoying companion so far. I always lose points with him when I insult my master (which is often) and I hate how flirting options are always available for him.

Annoying characters often suffer this fate though. Sometimes even when this is to players direct detriment. What's the good of being in a game that lets you be sociopathic if you don't take advantage of it?

Yeah, I think the reason being “she’s annoying” actually makes it way less worrying. In my experience, most people really hate annoying npc’s, I see people try to do shit to an annoying npc that’s stuck following them around whenever they can. I can imagine people doing this in the same spirit they’d, say, kill gold-beggars in Assassin’s Creed. So still concerning, maybe, but no more so than normal video game be-horrible-whenever-given-the-chance.

If the reason was more along the lines of “it’s hot,” THEN I would find it pretty upsetting.

Seriously, the entire situation is kind of gross. There's a lot of power imbalance with the female companion romances and Vette is by far the worst. If you take it as far as it goes, it's really gross and I played my warrior super hard core dark side (with a soft spot for Vette, cos yeah).

I don't even understand how something like that made it into the game. (Okay, so logically I understand but still.) It's fucked up and it really disturbed me when it first came up in discussions how many people loved it and took such glee in the prospect. So yeah, right there with you OP.

Agreed. When I was playing a Sith Warrior, I took the collar off as soon as I could.I found the alternative too distrubing.

Vette is a companion character for the Sith Warrior PC, and starts off as the Warrior's slave. As a slave, she is forced to wear a "shock collar" that the Warrior can use to hurt Vette if she does not do as she is told. The "Dark Side" options for Vette are simply "never take her shock collar off" and/or "use the shock collar to punish Vette when she gets uppity." Vette Most of the people I've talked to who have pursued this path who "enjoyed" taking this option did not enjoy it for the ~unfortunate implications~, but rather for the snappy one-liners and swearwords Vette throws at the Warrior in response. Vette cannot physically strike back at the Warrior, but she has a cheeky wit, so if the Warrior chooses to shock her or refuses to remove the shock collar, Vette always has a humorous and scathing remark to make. Again, most of the people I've talked to who explored the "Dark Side" options with Vette did so just to see how Vette would react.

You have the option when you first get Vette: what to do abotu her slave collar. I remember in early dialogues that you get DarkSide points for leaving he collar on so that you can zap her (I don;t know wath happens later, as I play a female Sith Warrior who's generally neutral-to-Light aligned.)

idk, i'm a passive person but if i ever opt to take a neutral/evil route in a game, i have no problem killing people who sass me or even look at me funny. it's not like i'm gonna do that irl.

then again i'm not the people you're talking about, and i know there are some folks who probably wouldn't take issue with harming someone they solely found "annoying"

In all seriousness, I get you OP.
I don't think everyone who chooses Dark Side to be an ass to her is doing it JUST to be an ass to her as a woman. Most of them just like to be eeeevil, no matter the scenraio. They would have probably chosen to torture a male slave as well.

What I don't like, though, is the fact that it's always a sexy young woman or Twi'Lek. At least give us some diversity to avoid sexist implications and include more audiences.
You can't tell me that all evil characters only take female humans or Twi'lek as slaves to "dance" for them and shit.
That's just to pander to the assumed straight male target audience and it gets on my nerves.

Can we please see a tasty male slave for once that I can torture? :P

I so fucking agree. And, maybe it's me, but even when I played a dark side SW, I absolutely loved Vette and she became the bestie to my Warrior. She's the same on my LS Sith now.

but that option is just...ugh. ESPECIALLY since we don;t have a MALE option in the game to do that to. In fact, even random quest NPCs who end up with shock collars...most are female with the exception of few males.

It's disturbing.

I love this game, but some of the decisions and shit in this game is very anti-fem.

And don't get me started on all the apprentices/padawans...B/

My Sith warrior is neutral (she is ruthless but has honor) and adores Vette. She could never be mean to her. She has a huge crush on her but... damn you Bioware and your lack of same sex romance options!

(Yes, they've said they will have them but frankly given the way things have gone with TOR, I'm not expecting it to happen.)
