What disturbs me about it is that Twilight's "ranking up", as it were. Changing classes (from assumed-middle to upper class), changing races (from unicorn to alicorn, who have been consistently portrayed as more lovely/mysterious/powerful), I don't know. It doesn't sit well with me.

I wouldn't say I'm a masochist, since I actually rather hate pain, but, the thought of being completely physically broken in a fight - but remaining defiant to the end - turns me on like you would not believe. Death is optional, but I do enjoy fantasies with that as the ultimate end-point.

There are a lot of ways to get off on rapefic, ergo a lot of people write it.

And while I haven't done any statistical analyses either way, I've gotten the strong impression that fandom as a whole has a much higher proportion of assault and abuse victims than the offline world, and/or a much higher proportion being open about it*. People often have to suppress their assault/abuse histories in real life, so fandom becomes one of their only outlets to let out anything from frustrations to commiserations to celebrations that are in any way related to assault and abuse, or recovery from them.

* = I presume. I'm one of those rare cases where I'm perfectly fine talking about my assault in real life but I can't talk about it in fandom.

Ah, I see. I saw a couple of early episodes, and it was from them that I got the impression that it was prequel-ish, but a retelling makes sense, too. And someone who followed the entire series would certainly know better than me, of course!

But why do you have to assume anything? Some assumptions are justified, sure, but what the hell does who I'm banging have to do with anything? Why do you need to assume anything about my sexual preference? This is what I'm most confused about, that the assumption needs to be made in the first place. What's so damn hard about saying, "I don't know"?

Me too! I love when fandom is a happy place and I tend to gravitate towards positive people in fandom, which is not easy considering some of the fandoms I inhabit. But the whole point of fandom is enthusiasm for something we love, at least I thought it was, though I think some people enjoy being enthused about hating something to the point of loving it? I'm rambling.

I do blame him a little for leaving it up even after several people pointed out that it's a whopping huge spoiler for the very recent end of a series that's been running for 20+ years.
