Nope, but they invented the kind of guilt trip over it that the OP's trying to pull.

There's a difference between sex-as-plot-point vs sex-for-no-reason-except-to-make-the-character-seem-liberated. Pretty sure the latter is what OP is complaining about.

What guilt trip? I didn't read anything like that in the secret. And I'm sure that plenty of other religions have managed to feel the same way without any input from Catholics.

I have a hard time respecting characters when they make dumb decision after dumb decision regarding who has access to their genitals.

It's kind of stated right there. People who have lots of sex should not be respected because having lots of sex is a dumb decision.

I read that part more as 'they repeatedly sleep with idiots/could choose their company better' not as 'having sex at all is a dumb decision'.

Whether or not having lots of sex is a dumb decision depends on who you're choosing to have all that sex with. Sounds to me like the OP would just prefer to see characters who exhibit some taste and discretion in their choice of partners, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Yeah... I'm going to say this has more to do with where you are than the Catholic Church itself, because. I spent 16 years deeply involved in my Catholic community in a very Catholic area and never met anyone like you described. (And it's not like I live in a super-liberal place like NYC or something.)

Try again. I know several Catholics that go to mass every Sunday and believe profusely in the faith, just not happen to see eye to eye on everything the Church says because they believe in the stories of the Bible as parables on how to live your life rather than literal interpretation. So they get to live live in the modern world as reasonable everyday people.

Huh. It's really interesting to see how different it is in other parts of the world. In my experience, the ones who are the most "prudish" (I really hate that word) and have a stricter interpretation of the Bible are the Protestants. Yet I would never be so arrogant to assume that *all* Protestants everywhere are like that, just because it fits with my experience. Your limited worldview is not indicative of the millions of individual Catholics around the world, sorry to say.
