I don't know how I feel about your overall sentiment but I will say Weeds definitely got ridiculous with Nancy's magic vagina. It wasn't her sleeping around that bothered me but how she managed to get out of life threatening situations because for some reason everyone wants to bang her.

Weeds really should have ended several seasons before it did though, Nancy had better writing in the beginning.

Meh, I feel the same way. That happens usually at the point where the writers can't come up with anything else, and the whole thing escalates to the Bold and the Beautiful levels, where the main character has hit it off with everyone and their brother (and father), sometimes repeatedly.

Yeah, there's a difference between sex-as-plot-point vs sex-for-no-reason-except-to-make-the-character-seem-"liberated." I also find it kind of aggravating that the only female characters who are ever described as "in charge of her own sexuality" are the ones who have lots of meaningless casual sex with everything that moves. Female characters who sleep only with their partners, or are celibate, or only have sex when it's supposed to be meaningful for them, are never described that way.

I just want more "strong" female characters that don't need sex or romance, period.

Not because of some kind of dumb "sworn to celibacy" shit, but just because it plain doesn't interest them.

This is one reason I was fond of Homeland season one, where Carrie was both a strong woman in charge of her own sexuality and shown to have made some really terrible choices of partners/situations.

I don't think the OP meant "OMG people have sex with more than one person." That's not the impression I got at all. I think what OP meant was "I hate when for a character to be strong, all they have to do is have sex with every single character." That's not holding prudish views, that's thinking a female character's strength should come from more than having lots of sex.

The OP wasn't insulting sex. They were talking about sex being all that supposedly matters.

There's nothing wrong with a strong female character enjoying sex and having a lot of it and flaunting her sexuality, but when that gets to be the only way that writers think a female character can be strong, it's a problem, yeah.
Especially since promiscuous female characters have a nasty habit of having romantic subplots where the love interest needs to "tame" her, ugh.

Having sex with anyone in the cast to show how "liberated" and what a "strong female character" she is.

Isn't this something that countless Mary Sue OCs do in fanfiction...and we as readers tend to mock them for it. But when an actual show does it, and someone comments that they think it's a stupid way to show someone's "strength of character" a bunch of people come to yell at them for slutshaming.
