that's the beauty of online -- the reasons for fear diminish and gender is something you can chose/lie about/omit. I've become close to people, shared intellectual connections with people never knowing their gender. I understand the fear, and it's understandable, but the internet of all places is where you can try to step away from that toxic mindset (and it is toxic, not matter how understandable.).

I don't know if this is a troll secret, but if it isn't, then OP you need to relax. The guys in this community are actually chill with women. Some even engage in feminist discussion and find "Nice Guys" to be creeps. This is probably one of the best places to go to discuss fandom things with dudes.

If this was a gaming forum you were talking about, that would be more understandable though. Gaming forums are where all hope in humanity goes to die.

Don't blame yourself for an involuntary reaction, OP. I often feel unsafe and uneasy around guys IRL - even ones I've known for years and are friends. It's difficult to overcome an instinctive fear response.

I am liking the image of some internet stranger casually browsing the streets of F!S, and when they turn a corner they spot a pair of dudely folk chilling on the 03. Cafe patio. Instead of just walking past like a normal and cool person, this stranger's all bug-eyed and has to reroute their course of sidewalking.

And I watch this all through my basement window, taking notes and pictures, adding you to my collection of cuties i c on da st.

I can understand that reaction somewhat.

Mostly because my sister is very safety conscious, and she used to have shifts that ended after dark. (She works at a hospital, but she has a morning-afternoon shift now.) Whenever she didn't have the car and before she got a boyfriend, she would call me to walk her home. Technically we live in a safe area, but I can't really blame her for being extra-careful. Hospital workers have to deal with a fair amount of shit anyway.

I do not *like* the fact that we live in a society where women have to be conscious of their personal information and extra-cautious going places alone after dark, and I want to work on a way to change it, but I am not going to ignore it or tell you there's no point being cautious.

That being said, most of us here are pretty nice, IP logging is off, and you can always go anon if you want absolutely no identifying details.

So presumably you recognized that the knee-jerk emotional reaction was just that, a reaction, and honestly not one you should listen to in this context.

While fear is understandable, remember that you had to realize it. The guys that are on here are pretty chill, and F!S is the same F!S after you realized it as before. If your automatic reaction to a male presence is fear, maybe F!S can even be a good avenue to help you get over that, and even if not, there's no reason to change how you enjoy F!S. :)
