I'm so glad I stopped reading the books before Tonks even appeared, and I don't care about the movies after that weird, weird casting decisions when it came to Sirius and Remus, so I'm happy pretending all of this silly "let's pair everyone up, guise" never happened.

US/UK in Hetalia. the fandom killed it for me, and it wasn't even because it's everywhere or anything like that. Because their dynamic in fic and art is just so darn annoying. Blehhhhh

Red/Yellow in Pokespe. I shipped it after they finally met, but then oh my god why the fuck is Yellow a dainty damsel now AAAUUGGGH i hate it so much gdi. Also, I like the idea of Yellow/Gold much better, and RGB OT3 4 LYFE. orz

Kate/Sawyer in Lost. Yeah. Part of what killed it was love triangle bullshit drama being so persistent I started to hate both characters (and also Jack). The other part was moving on to the wonderful (for me) that is Juliet/Sawyer and Kate/Claire 8) ♥

YES

I should have seen it coming when I was reading all this pretty much super AU/OOC fic to get myself stoked for season 2, but it was so easy to just laugh and read what was pretty awesome stories anyway.

But then it kept happening. And the meta was just all wrong, and I'm like boggling at these posts wondering if these bloggers anda authors are even watching the same show as I am, and AUGH. There was a point where I had to pick between being that fan that scolds people for having fun in their own way, and just checking out of the fandom hotel to enjoy things on my lonesome. I don't want to be that fan :(

There are times when I like anonymity (like, anon kink memes are fun). But in general, I like having a chance to get to know people, and that's impossible when everyone is anon. I don't mind if some people post anon, but if F!S was just another anon meme, I doubt I'd be interested.

I don't think it's that no one (except you) feels this way. I think people vary a lot when it comes to how much attraction they experience to others, and how much attraction they experience when they aren't interested in actually being with someone. You sound like you're on the extreme end of the spectrum. Which isn't horrible. It's just not the norm. I think for most people, attraction is something mostly spontaneous that they can't control. But some people may find that how much attraction they experience can depend a bit on their life circumstances and how focused (or not focused) they are on romance.

I don't know if I've ever gone from hating a show to loving it again, but there have definitely been times when I started losing interest or becoming frustrated, only to get into it again.

I stopped watching Supernatural twice, first during season five and then during season six, only to start watching it again pretty randomly and getting sucked back in.

I lost interest in Fringe a couple times. Not to the point where I stopped watching, but to the point where I'd multitask or channel surf when it was on, and didn't mind if I missed some things. But then I got back into it more, and I grew to really love the plots in the other universe (even though I was initially uninterested in those versions of the characters).

Strawberry Panic! - On the one hand, they're kind of terrible, but on the other they're terrible in an incredibly entertaining way, like any other soap opera.

(Slight trigger warning, though...some of the characters (I'm looking at you, Yaya!) are somewhat iffy on the whole 'consent' thing.)

Agreed. It is my headcanon that Molly helped Tonks out by knocking Lupin out and dragging him to the altar, and that's the only reason he was there at all.

I mean, no where in any part of what happened did I get the impression that Lupin loved her in return. None of his words or actions indicated reciprocation. In fact, he spent a great deal of time enumerating all the reasons why he and Tonks as a couple wouldn't work, and then tried to abandon her the moment he found out she was pregnant. It was Tonks who ran out after Lupin in the battle. Not once did we get any scene, or any telling later of an unseen scene, to suggest that Lupin had romantic feelings for Tonks.

I get that this is due to being stuck mostly in Harry's POV, but a better writer would have made sure to build the relationship on a foundation that included something on Lupin's part that actually made sense. One would also think that somewhere along the way one of her editors might have said "Hey, Jo, um... look. I'm just not feeling the Lupin/Tonks thing because there's not a single thing to indicate he actually loves her."

(I'm sorry, but arguing all the reasons you shouldn't be together does not equal "I love you too, but we can't be together." Unless he actually says those words or in some other way indicates this idea, then really all he's doing is making excuses because none of the people around him can comprehend that maybe, just maybe, he doesn't love her back, and so he has to make up shit off the top of his head.)

For the record: I love the vast majority of the HP series, and I like Tonks and Lupin as separate characters. Also, while I can see an argument for it, I am also not a Sirius/Remus shipper.

Is it a systematic, institutionalized hatred that permeates society? No, absolutely not. But ivory tower academics don't get to change the meanings of words and then get mad when not everyone is on board.

(I wish I had kept the article that first suggested that sociologists start using all of the -isms to refer to systematic oppression. I read it while I was in college, and the thing that always struck me about it was that the author suggested the redefinition not because she thought it would make more sense, but because she wanted to start shocking people. In other words, you assholes have been using intentional wankbait for the past 20 years and think that it makes you "enlightened.")
