Tumbleweeds?

What you call tumbleweeds, I grew up calling "Russian thistles." I never heard of "tumbleweeds" until I moved to LA county. I'm from Bakersfield, which is a linguistic anomaly because we're full of descendents of Okies/other midwest migrants. What does the rest of f!s call those things and where are you from?

I have no idea how this came out of left field for people. In the very first/second episode, we get the Elements of Harmony. Rarity gets a necklace. Fluttershy gets a necklace. Rainbow Dash gets a necklace. Applejack gets a necklace. Pinkie Pie gets a necklace.

And Twilight Sparkle gets a crown.

It's kind of disappointing. I just finished the last ep, and while I enjoyed it, I can't help but feel it would be so much better it would be if it weren't so camp, even sappy at times, to the point of being ridiculous. The writing just isn't very good. Also there is no subtlety or complexity and a lot of the times things just don't add up, or are too obvious. I realize that the writers of the show are not going to be ACD, but seriously, it's just so...unsophisticated. Bah. It has its moments, though.

I guess that's true. Though, I thought that things were more dire and dangerous in the second war. The only reason Lily and James had to go into hiding was because Dumbledore received intel that Voldemort was specifically targeting them. Tonks and Lupin where both actively in the fray.

What are some pairings that you used to ship like crazy, but that you eventually stopped liking? I can be because it just stopped appealing to you, the characters changed, you realized some things that rubbed you the wrong way as you matured, or you just don't really care about the fandom anymore...etc.

Can anyone recommend me a good, non-slice-of-life light novel to read? It doesn't have to be translated, but I've already gone through most of the popular ones and don't know which of the other series are worth picking up. The pretty art doesn't help in my buy ALL the light novels urge either...
