I was an early adopter of Tumblr, and it was always filled with fangirls. Always.

Yeah, I guess it's unfortunate most of fandom has moved to an outlet that has a pretty particular culture and makes it very difficult to actually have discourse. But I don't think Tumblr is the kind of site where you should be expecting a lot of conversation to begin with. Certainly I only have one so I can look at the cool things people make.

You can find a lot on Tumblr, you just have to look. There is actually a lot more out there than just fandom. I follow some awesome photography and art tumblrs, for example, that have zero to do with anything you listed.

Um, Avengers movie fandom seems to be all about liking the white dudes and not feeling bad about it. Though I do wish they'd feel bad about stupidly breaking up canon het ships just to get their jollies with non-canon slash ships and the near-constant apologizing for Loki's genocidal rapist tendencies.

When you say white dudes, I automatically think slash. Feeling bad for white dudes therefore = Feeling bad all slash pairings are white.

Correct me if I'm wrong.
On that note, I've only had one moment in fandom (here, actually, in fandom secrects) where some anon tried to shame people for shipping two more white dudes because they're just "another pair of white cocks". I personally find it wrong to guilt or shame anyone like this.

Tumblr is full of art/design, writing, photography - so if you're seeing fandom, it's because that's what you're choosing to follow.

I used tumblr for one month, May 2007, and fandom wasn't quite there yet. It was boring.

You can pick and choose who to follow...fandom isn't all that's on tumblr, and by all means plenty of users continue to live obliviously - you can be among them!

Tumblr savior. Though sadly, not everyone tags their stuff. I agree though, it can get quite annoying. I have 2 tumblr accounts, one for fandom stuff, one that would be considered more "hipster" by that side of tumblr. When I need a break, I go to my other account. It has the annoying "soft grunge blog, follow for follow!" stuff, but oh well, tumblr isn't perfect.

I don't even know what it is about it that annoys me so much. I mean, I like Supernatural/Hobbit/etc individually, but when it's all jammed together in another fucking "Angels have the box" thing aad;f'f;shdssaaa GAH. I hate it. Block posts tagged with [x] fandom you don't want to see, and filter all other instances of it showing up in text.
For instance, I got tired of hearing about Dr. Who, so I filtered the main terms referring to it to Metroid things.

And there are still plenty of black and white angled photos of trees and lattes, if you look in the right tags. So I don't know what you're "missing", exactly.

Ehhh, I like the fandom stuff, stay away from the SJ stuff, and generally like Tumblr because it's full of interesting things to look at. And it's pretty easy to avoid stuff you don't like.

I could be wrong, but I'd gotten the impression that Tumblr is a lot like LJ in that if you follow people who are in fandom, that's what you're exposed to, but if you're there for other reasons, you'll see references to fandom sometimes but it's not all there is.

I mean, I always hear about there being a lot of social justice stuff on Tumblr, but I only encounter it if I'm looking at Tumblrs devoted to it. Otherwise, occasionally a petition or something will show up on my dash, but it's not very noticeable. My experience has been very much that what you see on Tumblr depends on who you follow and what tags you track.
