Thank you SO much. I like my characters to be well-developed and my shows/books/movies to be interesting and beautiful. Characters' sexualities don't determine the quality of the material.

I'm perfectly ready to give some extra fangirl squee to something if it's already fantastic and has gay characters done right to boot, but that doesn't happen often. I'm tired of seeing series recced and finding out that the only reason people like them is because they contain gay characters. It's ridiculous.

THIS WAS THE MOST TERRIBLE TV SHOW EVER however Brian is hot in a deeply shallow way ):

Deeply shallow, unfortunately, doesn't do it for me. Which is a big part of my NO QUEER AS FOLK, NO.

15. Firstly, this has got to be the fifth or sixth Oshima secret. (;_; I die so hard with love.)

Secondly, I'mnotahoItotallyjustdidn'tskimthroughtheappsandcheckthetimeline. >>;;;;

Well, I think I know who you are, and even if I'm wrong, do not be afraid/intimidated D: I feel that way too sometimes, Oshima's a fucking goldmine when it comes to ICness, and pretty much everyone has some really good writing skills. As the bitch who started this up, I want to talk to people outside of RPing, just for shits and giggles. Hit me up, you know the contact list, mmkay? ♥

3. I was in love with James as a kid, and whenever I'm flipping channels and see an old Pokemon episode is on, I sit and watch it and fangirl every time James comes on the screen. XD; My friends know, though.

13. I'll admit I'm a bit of a slash fangirl, but I understand EXACTLY what you mean. I honestly found Brokeback Mountain to be insufferably unrealistic and incredably boring, and every time I tell someone that, they look at me like, "YOU HOMOPHOBE!" And I'm too lazy to explain to them otherwise. I also never really liked the show Queer as Folk, because I didn't really like any of the characters, and it was impossible to get into. OH. And Rent. I hated Rent, and I was so disappointed because I really wanted to see it, and then it SUCKED. I was so angry. I hate how in movies/tv shows/ect. if it concentrates on homosexuality, someone always dies of AIDS or being beaten to death by homophobes. Its like its impossible for gay people to survive to the end of a freaking movie and just grow old, or God forbid get hit by a bus or something normal.

26. Haha, in every secret I've ever posted in either [livejournal.com profile] ljsecret or [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets, there's (at the very least) one other person in this world that knows. I'm not particularly secretive about my "secrets" either, but I post them here and on [livejournal.com profile] ljsecret because I know I'll find someone who understands better. Don't let being open about things stop you. XD

Re: 13

You can see me agreeing above there, and Brokeback Mountain bored me as well, but do you mind if I respectfully disagree with your opinion on Rent? I've been a fan of the play since middle school, so I'm probably sentimentally biased, but I think you sort of missed the point of it. I'm not a fan of things that focus on the characters' sexualities and the problems that result from them, and I'm not a fan of AIDS constantly cropping up around gay characters. But in Rent it doesn't feel like that. You've got characters of all different sexualities and it's certainly not just the gay ones that have AIDS. I think the point was more that EVERYBODY has problems. And Angel's death was less to do with the fact that he was a gay character and more to do with the fact that he was almost too good to last. *shrugs* My two cents at least.

5. Hal love, yaay~

7. I'm usually in-between those two types--with the 30+ manly hot guys. 8D Even though I love Ganondorf and Kenpachi and SCAR IS FUCKING HOT

12. I would have somewhat agreed with you just a few days ago, but then I read Bleach and loved Orihime so hard. (I still can't believe how unloved she is in fandom. DD:) I don't think it's the character's fault, more like the writer's, as Mary-Sue type characters can be lovable and sweet and wonderful if they have endearing faults and try their best to be self-reliant rather than just helping the main character all the time. I also love Tohru from Fruits Basket. IONO SOME CHARACTERS LIKE THAT JUST... WORK.

I will agree with you about the typical obnoxious voice, though. If I'd watched the Bleach anime instead, I probably would have disliked Orihime (but then again, they seemed to tack on a bunch of unnecessary stupidity to her in that). And I've heard awesome Japanese female voices! They just... get badly casted for that archetype, I guess.

14. Second game, third case was especially sad. D:

19. Hahahahaha. XD

17. Hottest oldguy eva. Even if he's a sadistic ass. EXCEPT FOR MAYBE SOLIDUS but Solidus had sped-up aging?

28. ...That movie had a fandom? KICKASS. I love that movie. 8D

[identity profile] hako-neko.livejournal.com 2007-09-11 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
12. That's because it's called "moe," not Mary-Sue. XD Some people seem to forget this and just called a character a Mary-Sue just because they dislike them, when in actuallity, the character does have a large fanbase and developement.

[identity profile] slatterly.livejournal.com 2007-09-09 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
4. I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU MEAN AUGH. I just want it to be fun again.

7. Freddy Kreuger <3 Have not actually worked up the courage to see those movies but Robert Englund is the sex.

22. OMG SAME. The comics are so pretentiously gloomy and SERIOUS and I hate it. I just want to go watch Joker tie someone up and giggle, IS THAT SO WRONG???

5. Astral plane *dies* Yeah, sometimes I wish I was that way about my favorite character. Then I remember that I like being taken seriously.

8. Boys are weird like that :\ They get away with a lot of things but then look at us like freaks for doing the same.

20. ^^' Same here, I'm late to all the parties. All the bands I like are now old news *dies*

26. I KNOW. I can't make secrets, really, because I'm so open with EVERYONE. I don't have a lot of secrets, really!

29. No money for a PS/PSP-like program? Get the GIMP. It's free, powerful, and I have friends that swear by it. Don't let other people intimidate you into not doing the things you enjoy.

30. Yeah? People move on. Take out the "really hot cosplayer" part and it's just the same as any other person moving on with their life. I'm supposing Guy A just wasn't doing it for you anymore?

33 & 12: Deathmatch. Now. :)

TooBig! Ahn... yeah. HP fandom's just huge, so it seems like the crazy is worse. It's like driving in Las Vegas -- it's no that people are crazier, there's just more of them.

NS1 YES. Wing was made of hot, awesome, politics, Zechs sexy, and win.

29. Oh God, Zetsuai?

That was my first fandom! (And the fandom I met my first real girlfriend through, which probably wasn't a good thing come to think of it...) I used to own one of the big webpages/fic archives. And it was horribly designed and fanbratty to the max and - gah, it was 1998, I was sixteen, I wrote really bad and OOC fanfiction and never finished any of it and fangirled Katsumi like an idiot and I probably don't have to draw you a picture about what an utter idiot I made of myself in that fandom but oh Lord, memories. I'd bitch about how stupid the plot got but I left the fandom for Weiss Kreuz, so I can't really talk.

... oh Christ, and the mailing list. The wank. Oh God, the wank. Pity half of us were underage and there was no fandom_wank back then, I would have loved to look back on all our little dramaramas and laugh until I choked. And they seemed so significant at the time. Gah, that secret took me back.

I recently had to explain that Marvel Adventures: Avengers (the all-ages version of Marvel Comics) is at least as good the "main universe" Avengers that I don't read anymore.

I didn't want to tell them I hate the gore and all the weird characterizations in the "normal" books. Especially everything related to "Avengers Disassembled" and "Civil War."
