Most people have body image issues. If you say you're fat around someone fatter than you, or more insecure than you, they will take offense, like you're bashing them for not feeling the same. It's a fact, so...pick your audience better.

There's not really anything of value in an argument that denies the perfectly reasonable probability that the human aversion to death has an evolutionary basis simply because humans are capable of a higher level of mental function than other animals.

Re: Well, yes.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, it wasn't worth reading for other reasons, but the mistake was more interesting than the argument.

He's also making fun of the nutty anti-gun people by making a totally over-the-top song. With Ghandi. But the anti-gun people have a better sense of humor, it would seem.

Uh I *have* vasovagal syncope (due to low blood pressure), and have lived with it for decades. The only time I had fainting spells was during puberty (yay hormones) and as long as you're still breathing after you blackout, there is NO damage like you are suggesting.

Now, if your heart stops entirely, or restarts in an abnormal rhythm (which, believe me, you'll know), or if you stop breathing entirely, then yes those are causes for concern. It sounds to me like OP had a minor episode, and would likely not have done any of the damage you are shrieking about.

A visit to OP's GP may be in order, so s/he can decide whether or not to bring a specialist onboard.

Last time I had bloodwork done, they elevated my feet, told me not to talk, and gave me a five minute recovery window. I am not eligible to donate, though, because of this.

As far as I'm aware that mass post removal only happened once and there's been no threat of a repeat, but I might have simply missed something... However, it is still far from an ideal system - in the big fandoms new forums get lost; in the small ones fewer people will come. Either way, it can be hard to get traffic outside of an already popular forum there.

I'm sorry I can't be of any help. :/ I hope you find somewhere soon!!

Or even Chicago vs Miami.

You'd be surprised how many people legitimately think that, or that all vegetarians eat fish.

Re: Fat

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Also saying "out of shape" instead of "fat" is probably best, people can be out of shape at any weight and the response is most often encouragement to get in shape.

This is true. I am maybe.. 120 lbs? And I'm pretty out of shape - the only reason I'm even this small is metabolism. I don't desire to lose MORE weight, but to be more in shape? Definitely.

I dunno, I think "I finally lucid dreamed last night" is pretty brag-worthy, even without the sexin's thrown in.

Re: Farting cats

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
When I had cats, they wouldn't fart a LOT, but when they did, you'd never hear it. And it'd smell AWFUL. I miss cats, but not that part of them, lol.

Agreed, for the love of god

Also, it's your own fucking body and you should be able to talk about it however you want to. I'd also add that I feel like "fat" is the least derogatory way of describing it since "overweight" is comparative and suggests there is one "normal" body type, "fat" is just descriptive, that's literally what it is, extra fat/adipose tissue

WHAT! I THOUGHT WE HAD SOMETHING SPECIAL!

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Well, one's a Horse-Man Alien thing with the powers and outfit of Thor/ The other is a pretty Girl with black hair. One of those will stand out in a crowd considerably more than the other.

Also I've not been a regular visitor to "The house of idea's" since about the civil war (and I bailed on the ultimate universe around the time they killed Peter) so... yeah I'm well out of the loop.

Do I want to know what happened to Patriot? I suspect if there's a 'Miss America' on the team, then the other 'america' themed hero is... Retired Happily living out his days in cali? Ah, no. He was a teenager, he was brutally murdered, wasn't he.

LOL this is exactly the kind of "think of everyone else besides yourself first" attitude going around fandom spaces that I FUCKING HATE

Yeah... I get the impression that all of Moffat's dangling plot threads (what made the TARDIS explode, who the fuck are trying to build their own TARDIS and why and how, wtf Silence, the Fields of Trenzalore) are one big long game leading up to the 50th. I also kinda think he's trying to clean house after RTD broke the Doctor and didn't put him back together again, and giving the Lonely God/Woobie Destroyer of Worlds stuff a good sendoff before he kills it dead. And... I honestly don't know what he'll do with himself afterwards. Presumably he's trying to leave the house in good shape for his successor, but no idea whether he'll stick around to enjoy it himself.

I do hope Matt Smith stays on after Moffat leaves though. He at least seems to be showing no signs of burning out, and I'd love to see what a different showrunner would do with Eleven.

This is accurate. Half the time I was wondering if Andrea died because tptb didn't know what else to do with her besides just not knowing what to do with her.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, she wanted a shortcut to respect. She saw the guys had respect, and she wanted in but she wanted it quick, so she acted recklessly without forethought but with a huge heap of entitlement. Which was stupid. Rick and Shane had respect because they had police training and that meant facing down crap as well as planning (admittedly Shane is a failure here, but the group didn't know that at that point), Daryl had respect because of his woodsmanship skills, Dale had a whole lot of life experience and a calm demeanor (mostly), and Glen had respect because he proved himself as a tactician and being willing to take personal risks for the good of the group.

Andrea wanted that level of respect. She wanted to be seen as a big shot. It was no different than young Carl throwing stones at the trapped zombie. Both of them childishly trying to make themselves look big and important, and both doing more harm than good. She just didn't want to put in the hard work to get it the slow way.

Andrea didn't want to be down with those she didn't think deserved respect (she was real judgmental, as much as Lori even) which were mostly the other women. And T-Dog. And T-Dog and Carol were slowly gaining respect, mainly by doing hard work that needed doing, but that wasn't the glamorous gun-slinging so that wasn't good enough for Andrea. She wanted to go from zero to hero in one step. Just like young Carl.

She was a grown ass woman acting like a child.

I just spent the better part of two hours reading this. WHY HAVE I NOT DISCOVERED THIS AMAZINGNESS UNTIL NOW!? (And where's the totally inappropriate fanfic, guys? I'm disappointed.)

Re: are you afraid of dying?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
I go back and forth. Lately I've gone back to 'yes' - sometimes it's the pain, sometimes it's going too soon? I've also lost a lot of people at a young age (both mine and theirs at the time they died), and those are always the worst.
