OT, but I feel it needs to be said: I always look for your username in the comments. If I wasn't 100% sure chardmonster isn't my sister, I'd suspect you of being my brother-in-law.

Re: is poly a sexual orientation?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
I'd say that it's part of someone's sexual identity, but not a sexual orientation. It doesn't, after all, describe who the person wants to be in a polyamorous relationship with.

Wow, asking who's sexier in that case is kind of like asking what's more fun, Ebola or necrotizing fasciitis.

While I agree with most of what you're saying, I think you have a very warped view of Canadian gun laws. Probably a good 90% of my family own guns, and the gun *registry* pretty much got laughed out of my home region, let alone what would have happened if they tried to take them away. There is a *requirement* that Principals at several of my school zone schools must be able to maintain and fire guns so they can use the one stored in their office to get bears out of the yard before the first busses get there, and again at lunch if necessary.

tl;dr: despite not having the right to bear arms like Americans, Canada is far from the no-gun zone so often represented. Yes, we have our anti-gun activists, but it's because of *them*, not because they're one of *us*.

...dude, what? From a purely aesthetic standpoint, Bradley Cooper is HOT.

this fandom only seems to like female characters that know how to kill things real good.

I felt dizzy once...

ONCE.

(No, seriously, that's the entirety of my fainting experiences. Fainting is a foreign concept to my body.)

I don't think they're trying to say it isn' or even justify it. They're just admitting that they'd DO it.

As a child I didn't understand why Belle wouldn't just marry Gaston because I thought he was super handsome and would give her a pretty great life that would outweigh his doucheyness. So five year old me (and the little part of me that still finds arrogant guys sexy against my better judgement) is on your side. Also, Gaston <3

Came here to say this.

"Managing your feelings" isn't "coping with them a specific way", it's "making sure you don't do stupid shit because of them", regardless of how you achieve that.

Re: Mancester Police now consider attacks on Goths etc Hate Crimes

[personal profile] republicanism 2013-04-05 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
i am nayrt just so ya know, but i'm curious. does law enforcement have a good reputation for handling hate crimes properly in the UK? does it usually lead to harsher sentencing and does that work well as a deterrent?

when i see legislation like this i'm always really skeptical, first of the basis (apart from the murders mentioned in the article--who determined what qualifies as an "alternative subculture" and based on what statistics) and second of if and how it's going to actually be enforced, especially when it seems so vague. it's one thing to put a law in place to appease people and it's another to actually utilize it effectively.

I really don't see it. I find him aesthetically unappealing.

I have pretty conventional tastes and I don't see it. When he was named sexiest man or whatever I was shocked.

Mostly, I just experience occasionally postural hypotension. My vision darkens and I get lightheaded, but I've never fainted

Re: is poly a sexual orientation?

[personal profile] republicanism 2013-04-05 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
cop-out answer? depends on what you think a sexual orientation is.

a lot of people think it only encompasses gender or sex of attraction. people from the queer theory sect generally argue that this is a narrow view of sexuality.

personally, i think a sexual orientation can encompass a lot of different things (and i have definitely known people that are more comfortable being polygamous than monogamous and vice versa).

the trouble arises when people compare being poly to (for example) being gay, because these are totally different parts of sexual orientation and gender&sex have a whole different cart full of baggage. apples & oranges imo. very sexy apples and oranges

Re: Scariest thing that you've done

[personal profile] lynx 2013-04-05 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
Short answer: Family tragedy at a beach at the south of my country. My mom, little brother and cousin almost drowned.

I was 14 and had no training. Only a cheap bodyboard, and knew how to swim. I managed to take my brother and cousing back to the safety of the beach, but they wouldn't let me go back to the water and take out my mom. The waves were huge. The current didn't want me to move in any way I wanted. But I was able to save two out of three.

(It was a beach with no lifeguard, being in the south. In the end, firemen saved my mom.)

Re: are you afraid of dying?

[personal profile] lynx 2013-04-05 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
I'm terrified, even more because I don't think there's anything after death.

But even then, I have two suicide attempts under my belt.

Maggie's gotten hate for giving up the location of the prison and for being angry at Glenn. TWD fans really suck sometimes.

Yup, very true. Also, I suppose the jailworthy stuff isn't exactly something that hits home for a lot of people, not to mention it's an action that can go in a whole variety of different directions and have different meanings and effects and motivations. Whereas on the other hand, abuse is always abuse.

If a certain someone doesn't start actually telling me what the fuck is wrong then I'm going to start taking their passive-aggressive 'I'm fine's at face value because for fuck's sake I am not spending every other conversation trying to winkle out the sekrit pain you're hiding behind tense unhappy monosyllabic assertations that everything's okay.

Annnnd I just realised that this reads like it's aimed at OP. This is most definitely NOT meant for OP. (Unless by some crazy internet coincidence the friend to whom I am referring also frequents f!s and made the original post. Which I highly, extremely doubt. Because she tends to make vagueposts to her tumblr instead of being anywhere near as straightforward as OP.)

SNM secret yesssssss :D

I am with you, OP, I am with you. I really, really need to get myself back to the McKittrick.

now this has me wondering if those flowers used to be very commonplace, but humans wasted them. for all we know gothel drove the plant to extinction.

... like, imagine if gothel and her friends and family just had to watch as their guaranteed vessel for immortality was stripped away from them with each dying plant, and they as people finally had to realize their own fragility and die. gothel could have very well watched all of her friends and family die out with that flower. gothel could have been the last of a generation of 'immortal' people.

damn.
