Fandom has a serious problem of ignoring very problematic shit in shows based around teenagers.

I ship Sterek in a future kinda way, when stiles is 20+ and they both fight monsters and are loyal to each other and scott and everyone is happy and its beautiful.

But anyone that thinks Sterek will be canon in season 3 is seriously deluding themselves. The payoff wouldn't even be worth it at that point, it would just feel cheap so i don't even know why people would want it.

This surprises you? People in fandom ship siblings, parents/children, and owners/pets. A bit of age difference is actually tame compared to the illegal/unethical things people ship.

I hate it when they turn Stiles into this suffering woobie who just needs a little love.

I think he does feel abandoned at times, and I think he internalizes a hell of a lot more shit then he lets out (the Wolf's Bane hallucination anyone?)

But it's also really important to point out that Stiles's solution to three different problems (Derek, Jackson, and Matt) were to kill them/let them be killed. Scott is actually the one who's all about saving people--which is why Scott is the hero of the show, and Stiles isn't.

I can't remember what fic it was, but it was talking about wolf mates, and how human mates could be more dangerous than wolf ones in how they would defend their mate/their pack. And that's kind of how Stiles works--kid has a hell of a lot of darkness underneath his awkward flails and dorky clothes. And I love that.

And that's not even getting into how I hate how fandom sometimes portrays Derek, or Sterek itself. Slow burn, people, otherwise the ship doesn't work.

I admit i kinda love that trope sometimes. :D BUT its sad how frequent it is in fic, as it doesn't really fit his characterization. I wish there were more in character fics though for both Stiles & Derek

But its one thing to want something in fic and think its going to happen in canon.

I agree with you on all points OP! Sterek is not happening in season 3. They have hardly interacted at all so the chance of them becoming canon would come out of left field (and I say this as someone who does enjoy reading Sterek fic).

Plus, Stiles/Danny needs to happen first. Danny needs to show him ~the way of the peen~

You just don't argue with Sterek fans. They got evidence (I was going to look up one of those gifsets that hyper analyze that time when Derek gave Stiles a quick pat on the shoulder while he went to save Scott from Mamargent, but then I realised I don't wanna bother) shhhhh it's okay.

Yeah, it's not happening evvverrr. For starters, the show has their token gay character in Danny, so every other relationship will be straight, and any mention of main characters being anything other than straight will be played for laughs.

Not to mention that they have zero interest in each other in canon.

I love Sterek as much as the next girl, but I'd be majorly creeped out if the ship became canon in s3. Oh, I do think they COULD be canon, but lots of things would have to happen first to ensure that it won't be creeptastic. And lots of time would have to pass to make the pairing in any way realistic. Expecting Sterek to become canon in s3 (or even s4) is just ridiculous.

I'm not going to lie-- Sterek is just not one of those "canon-ish" slash pairings. Not like, say, Dean/Castiel from Supernatural is. I ship them because the idea of them together is interesting, and not really because they're ~destiny~ or that they ~make sense~ or whatever.

Do you think Sterek would be as popular or the shippers be so forceful if it wasn't on a show that seems pretty Gay-friendly, and one that doesn't buy into heteronormativity as much?

Like if the show was on a different network or had a different showrunner?

I think Sterek stans are fascinating in their delusions. I guess it's like any other fandom stans, but this fandom just seems to much more mainstream or loud or...something. I don't know, it's weird.

I totally agree. I understanding wanting to see a ship you love made canon, but sometimes it really, really does not make sense within canon, or comes off as extremely sketchy. This is one of those times. Also, I don't really feel like this would be that great queer representation that so many of the people pushing for it to be canon keep clamoring about. I would actually like to see more queer characters on the show, and even see Stiles be canonically bi, but pairing him up with Derek just has so many issues.

I agree and I enjoy Sterek too. Seriously, if they got together it would take so much work to make it not creeptastic.

I mean, I'm just laughing at this point at some of the fans. I have seen lists that somehow prove Sterek will be in the next season and I just can't believe my eyes. My gosh, half of the things on those lists are misquoted and wildly out of context quotes. Some are just plain made up fanon stuff.

But do you want to know the biggest kicker? The writer and the actors have admitted that Stiles and Derek are in very few if any scenes together for the first half of the season.

Oh well, it will be funny when they start raging after they don't get their way. You know, from a safe location far, far away.

Exactly. I think they could be canon someday, but it would only happen realistically 5-6 years down the road. As you said, Stiles' age is only the beginning. They both have issues to work on first.

I do hope the show at least starts exploring Stiles' implied bisexuality.
