20. Funny enough, when I read the manga I thought Johan would have most of the fangirling. All the people I know who are into Monster prefer Tenma. I have no clue how the actual fandom (if it exists) is like, though.

Monster fandom? From my experience is small and, if you're a huge fan and would hate to see the characters butchered in fics, generally best avoided. I've yet to see it written well, sadly. I would love to be corrected if well written work exists.

TOTALLY AGREED. I would never want my guy friends to be ashamed of talking about porn in front me -- I learn so much! (And so do they when I talk about mine. :D) And just because JKR didn't write Harry and Ron talking about it with Hermione doesn't mean they didn't, yanno? (Well, I could buy that they didn't. They're kind of immature in that regard for their age, IMO. But wow--wizard porn must be awesome!)

15. I was like that too. And then I saw House. &hearts (There are alternatives to buying a series. Ask around to see if there's anyone who has the set--I traded one of my mom's friends for the box set of Heroes--or check in movie rental places. If you have a Blockbuster nearby, you probably have access to the more popular shows.)

Why be a part of a fandom that you know nothing about? Seems rather pointless to me. You don't know the plot, you don't know the characters, you can't possibility know what's going on when people start talking about the series. Why not just enjoy a series that you do know and do have an interest in?

btw, plenty of crappy authors get told their characters are IC when they're not. The only way you know if you're a good author or one of those many bad ones if you actually play the game because then you'll know for yourself if the characters in your fics are IC or not.

Monster! \o/ Somehow that series makes it hard for me to get personally invested in the characters as individuals, though--and this is not because they're not great characters, just. . .the ideas behind them and the structure of the story are even more interesting than they, individually, are. The whole of the story is even greater than the parts. (This is probably why I don't really feel the need for fanwork or a fandom for Monster (not that I'd refuse to read/look at it or whine about people 'ruining' it or anything, as though that were possible)--it's just such a complete and considered statement in itself.)
