People are entitled to like what they like, of course, but for me, a lot of their interaction is sweet and wonderful when they're platonic family, but sort of unsettling if you look at it through the lens of romance. Additionally, I don't think the third game could have been more explicit that they're precious to each other as family rather than as potential lovers. And that kind of hero/heroine dynamic is so rare and unique in almost the entire scope of entertainment media that I can't help but be a little put out when fans try and squeeze it into that mold regardless.

Just my take, though. They certainly do love each other to death either way.

11. I see what you're saying, because in the game, it's meant to be platonic love, but this is fandom we're talking about. XD My personal view on pairings is that it's okay to ship them if there's the smallest possibility that there could be a relationship between the two characters, and I don't think anyone could say Phoenix and Maya don't have that. I mean, if Phoenix and Maya were real people I doubt anyone would be telling them, "wait, you guys can't go out together! Everyone thought you loved each other platonically"... you know? ^^; [/rant]
