I'm sort of in the middle. I'll buy it eventually (maybe not as soon as its released) and I'll enjoy it because SIMS, but right now I'm still enjoying 3. And I have a shitload of fandom Sims in 3 and I know I'll want to remake them for 4 and that is too much effort. (So while I'm looking forward to finding out more about it, I'm in no rush to actually play it.)

So agreed about the always online thing. It just isn't necessary and it would piss off the fanbase and hurt the games sales.

As for the packs and virtual store, I do think EA have gone a bit crazy with that in recent years, but just remember you can always download free fanmade content online.

Wasn't Spore a huge flop?

Anyways, it's possible that EA will go back to having games be online only - but it probably won't be until other companies start doing it more often as well.

I'm just worried that it'll start if the Xbox One gets really popular. [Or maybe I should say 'when'?]

Spore was a massive flop. Which is sad, because I loved the shit out of that game.

Mostly it just tried to be everything at once, and wasn't amazing at anything: god game, rpg, strategy, space-exploration, etc...

Every "What I'd Like To See" list that I've seen has basically been "TS2, but more advanced". And rightly so, because that's what TS3 should have been but instead it was shit. I'm looking forward to finding out what TS4 will be like, so I can decide whether or not it's worth getting excited about.

Also I'd totally forgotten that TS1 used Comic Sans. <3333

I just got into Sims 3 some months ago, so I'm not ready for Sims 4! I'm such a slow adopter for games sometimes.

At least with the release of Sims 4, the price of expansion packs will go down. That makes me happy :D

Honest question: can I ask why people hated TS3 so much? I quite enjoyed it, but then again I never owned TS2, so I'm not really sure what the different features are. Could someone explain what it is they don't like about 3 compared to 2?

I played Sims 2 and I enjoy Sims 3! Maybe one of the reasons Sims 3 gets hate is because it's really...not that different from Sims 2? Maybe? I don't really know. The only big difference I could see was that you could follow your sim out of the house. XD

For me, TS3 lost a lot of the features I loved from TS2 and didn't add enough new features to make up for it. I hated the way you could only have one active household at a time, the CAS was far more complicated than it needed to be and still all the sims ended up looking more or less the same. The only thing I liked about TS3 was that you could walk around the town freely and go to other peoples' houses and eat their food for a change, but my computer isn't the greatest so I couldn't even experience the best of that.

In my option, TS3 misses a lot of touches I like in TS2, like having ten kiss options instead of two and including negatives with positives (fears and wishes, the attraction system in 2 includes being repulsed instead of 'we're great together!!!' and 'meh'). I also feel like 2 had more stuff in the expansion packs, whereas in 3 some stuff that could've been combine is chopped up in store sets or stuff packs...but that's more business model and less to do with the game itself. I also mourn the lack of humor/sense of fun in TS3 that was present with TS2 and heck, even Medieval. Haven't played either for a while, though.

Personally TS3 was missing a lot of the quirkiness of TS2. And other than some features I really liked, such as a large open landscape you could run around in, it got boring pretty quickly. It was too "realistic" in a sense.

Personally, it's not a bad game, but as a sequel, it was a pretty bad one because it's geared towards a very different style of playing. TS2 (and 1, based on what I've heard about it) was really campy, ridiculous, and easy to control. TS3 was more realistic in that everyone moved at the same pace and there was a lot more chance involved. I know some people who like both, but I think that difference is why there are a lot of people who only like one or the other.

I played TS2 extensively (owned nearly all the expansion packs and gigs of custom content and all that jazz) and I play TS3 several times a week. Basically 3 is better if you liked the building aspects - constructing and decorating houses. If you liked playing legacies or multiple families or whole towns, it's virtually impossible. Changing households removes all the ambitions of the one you're leaving, meaning you have to start over in a lot of the controllable aspects of the game. EA is also pushing their cash shop model so they made it stupid hard to ass custom content to the game. It took months after it was released for people to figure out how to make new hair meshes. I'll probably play 4 when it comes out, but I'm prepared to be let down. I still love 3 but I just use it to build. I miss making and playing families but it's so frustrating that I gave up with it.

TS2 was more aimed at running a single family (or several barely-interacting families) over many generations. TS3 is more aimed at making entire neighbourhoods where everyone interacts, plus more complex building and interaction. It's also harder to make custom content; OTOH there's more provided by the game. If you liked the generational aspect of TS2, TS3 was frustrating. Lots of people do like TS3, but I'm not one of them.

It took me a while to get used to TS3 after playing 2. My biggest beef with it was the models; I got major uncanny valley vibes from them. Once I got accustomed to them and the broader gameplay, I really got into 3. I don't think I could go back to 2 now, because I'm so used to having a whole town to work with instead of half a street. And I think 3 carries on the quirkiness - the only funny thing I miss from 2 is Sims playing in bathtubs, but they'll goof off in front of mirrors and sing in the shower in 3, so it's pretty much the same for me.

Also, I love the expansion packs, though I know they're money holes. I recently added Supernatural, and though the zombies are annoying as hell, having a werewolf doing normal things during the full moon makes the pack worth it.

I didn't like it because the customization was more of a pain to do and the game was just so much easier. You could get to the max of your job in a few hours of playing.
