Didn't it turn out she was Schizophrenic? So it wasn't really Nick's fault. IDK. I don't think any of the Nick kid stars have grown up to be like her.

AFAIK the only places I heard about her diagnosed schizophrenia are from gossip rags making speculations, and Fandom Secret Not!Psychiatrists. So I wouldn't go that far yet.

Plus her Twitter was pretty intense back in her Chicky days. Not as destructive, but every bit as frequent, fragmented and frantic.

You know, I read a timeline of her breakdown yesterday, and I'm actually making conspiracy theories. I've seen some pretty bad mental illness (and quite similar to hers) in my day, but I've never seen someone break down so spectacularly in such a relatively short time and at that age.

I don't know all the details though. My theory is that she was either already diagnosed, functioning fine but went off hers meds for whatever reason, or someone is poisoning her. Seriously.

Isn't she in her 20s? And isn't that typically when schizophrenia first starts to manifest in a lost of cases? Seems pretty legit if that is indeed what she's been diagnosed with.

Amanda Bynes. She used to be a cast member on All That! and then she had her own TV show. She was in some Nick movies, too, I think, way back when.

She went through a nutty phase for a while but she actually seemed to calm down for a while. I don't know what's been happening with her recently but I remember her actually saying some reasonable and insightful things in interviews that impressed me about a year ago. I was actually kind of bummed that she and Liam Hemsworth broke up. I thought they were cute

She just did minor, typical teenage stuff that got blown out of proportion because of her affiliation with Disney.

It's good to see the people are cooling off on Miley.

Back just a few years ago it might have been just me but it seemed like hate for her was everywhere. It think it was during the time that Hannah Montana was running but really that happens with every Disney star. They get popular , Disney starts overpushing merch and slapping their face on everything, people start bashing them like crazy, they grow out of Disney and do something to prove their not little kiddies anymore or generally act like teenagers, people freak out and say they're going wild and the basher continue, and then the next girl gets popular and then it's " (old star) isn't as bad as "new star").

I swear when Miley was doing Hannah Montana it was like every third person was hating on her and made gross comments about incest (because southern) and wishing her dead. (I swear I saw one person say they wished her tour bus would crash with a "lol" when she was SIXTEEN. People calling her the antichrist and other shit.

I was afraid to tell people I liked her songs for the worry I would get yelled at.

Yeah, as far as I can tell Miley was/is just going through a pretty typical/predictable rebellious phase. I know I'm laxer on casual drug use than a lot of fandom, but personally the only thing she's done that actually makes me worry is her engagement to Liam Hemsworth. They seem awfully young for that, but eh, who knows if they'll actually go through with it.

I don't think there's anything wrong with her, especially considering how famous she became at such a young age. She seems pretty level headed, just a bit immature once in a while. But the girl's like what, 19?

I thought Miley had been established as being a cutter. I don't think she's completely well adjusted, she's at least been through some depression, she's just not an extreme case like Amanda Bynes is or Britney Spears was.

People can still have problems without a complete and total public breakdown. You have to understand for someone to be 5150 or for people to be applying for a conservatorship for you (which is happening with Amanda and happened to Britney), well... things are bad.

Are you saying the media got it wrong or that her doctors got it wrong? (This is a serious question. I know you said you're not a psychiatrist but I genuinely value the opinions of people who have experience with mental illness. I'm also curious if something came out in the media that I haven't read since I haven't been following the news about her.)

What worries me most about her breakdown? That people are going to blame it on Nickelodeon the same way they blame Disney for what happened to Britney, Lindsay, Miley, etc. And I've done the latter a lot. I feel like such a hypocrite.

Well, there is the long-standing blind item rumour that Nick exec (or whatever he does) Dan Schneider raped Amanda (or at least had sex with her when she was underage) and at some point she had to get an abortion. But stayed in the biz. If that is true you could imagine that there is some truth to idea that Nick screwed her up. (I remember that blind item whenever I see something about her erratic behaviour in the news, and the possibility that it's true just makes her breakdown that much more tragic to me. I hope she's getting the help she needs now.)

Yeah, I agree, it's kind of crappy to feel bad for Nickelodeon more than about her.

I don't think anyone will blame Nick for it, either? She hasn't been super associated with Nick in a long time, unlike the Disney stars you mentioned who were doing Disney things right up until they "went bad."

I wouldn't blame Nick or Disney specifically, but I do kind of worry about kids who grow up in the entertainment industry, there is definitely a dark side to it and I think unless you have guardians who are very educated about the whole thing and are really looking out for you, it can very easily lead a kid down a bad path.

Now this is not to say that the entertainment industry is responsible for mental illness, but a bad environment never helps that sort of thing and things like drug use and trauma can make it much... much... worse.

No to say specifically it's anyone's fault, being a child star can really mess with you. You can get to all kinds of drugs quickly because you suddenly got the money and you hang around with people who expect you to party with them, a grown up is offering champagne to celebrate a season or a film..
All I can say is I'm thankful for those child actors who didn't break and turned out to be fine people (biggest example is probably joseph gordon-levitt).
