Oh, I wanna know which fic!

I don't know this one, but there is a certain Avengers series that is insanely popular (and long). And I have no idea why. It is completely OOC and horribly written (plus the plot is convoluted and cliche). I tried reading the first one, because it was so popular. It reminded me of those fics you read when you were 15 and thought were so cool...which explains its popularity.

I can't wait for those people to look back on that fanfic in 5 years and feel really embarrassed.

most teen wolf fic I've seen is OOC. if I ever see "pack mom" stiles again, I'll set myself on fire (jesus, scott is more likely to be "pack mom" than stiles. come on now) v

Now I really want to know which fic it is. The only ones that super popular that are popping up in my mind are ''To Have Outlived the Night'' and ''Dilf'' which... I actually love those two and thought they were pretty much in character (although THOTN definitely had some shaky characterization moments and DILF was a complete AU).

I think every fandom I've been in has had that one fic that everyone loves where I just don't understand. Glee fandom has a few (including one REALLY looooong, truly awful fic) that I just - why? WHY Glee fandom?

Most fandoms have a fic like this, if not more than one fic. Very popular, oft/recced... but terrible and OOC.

Because I read Teen Wolf fic like my life depends on it, I've come across a few of these. It makes me sad when such OOC, full-of-plot-holes crap is so popular because what does that mean for those of us who do our damnedest to write in character fic with a decent plot?

Every fandom has fic like this, especially the more popular ones; it's just one of those things you have to accept is going to happen. You can always x out of the tab! Idk how many times I've x'd out of Teen Wolf fic so far, and I only started to read it about two weeks ago. LOL

Also, mmm Stiles. So pretty when bruised. It's about time he gets hurt again. (Sorry Stiles.)

I don't read TW anymore, but there are a few of these in dean/cas fandom that drive me up the wall. I'm starting to just avoid anything over ~80k words because I feel like people are willing to overlook the most terrible OOC shit if it's long enough...

have no mercy

examine every plot-hole, every out of character moment, every single way in which the premise plain doesn't work

then later decide if that's enough to make your peace, if not, make it public

watch the fireworks as people white-knight the author, and others who share your opinions who hadn't voiced it come out of the woodwork

the fandom implodes as it is divided and each faction destroys the other

only scorched earth remains

I'm actually on the other side of the fence, but in another fandom. There's this one fic everybody loves, and with good reason, it IS very well writen an IC (has minor flaws but not that many). I'll be honest, I love all the attention said fic receives, because is one of my favorites stories ever and there's and endless flow of fanart/discussion/headcanons of it everywhere. But I understand when some people says it's not their cup of tea.

You remind me of the people in my fandom who doesn't like it, which is OK, because different tastes and all, but don't be like this girl on my fandom, who, despite knowing I love said fic, has sent me messages explaining why she is supremely annoyed by it. Does she honestly expect me to change my mind and start hating it? I don't think so. If anything, I now avoid her like the plague, because I don't like to associate with people who lack common sense.

As others have said, if you really need to, post your opinion it in somewhere public (and watch your fandom explode in wank), but don't target especific fans of it, for god's sake.

There's this fic in my fandom. I think it's terrible. The characters are all Out Of Character morons, the plot's a convoluted mess and the very premise makes no damn sense. I keep seeing it recommended all over the place, even by people who's taste in fic is generally (in my opinion) good. It drives me up the wall and makes me irrationally angry.

Bonus secret: This isn't the first time this has happened to me... But last time was a different fandom.

Doesn't sound irrational at all. TW is bad about this, but I feel like they've gotten better since s3 started. It's SPN that drives me crazy. The show has been on eight years. Presumably the fans/writers have seen at least SOME of those years of television. How can the characterization be so routinely terrible?

PLEASE let it be Alpha Spikes or Permanent Fixture. Both are awful, and I'm really horrified that the fandom has just been pulled in just by the insider-y mention of Doctor Who and other fandom favorites.

However, if you're talking about DILF. Well. I loved DILF. It's not perfect, but I've certainly read FAR worse. Characterization's good, Scott & Jackson are written BEAUTIFULLY without having ridiculous lisps that so often characterize kidfics. (PAW, I'm looking at you - I will continue to read your crappy fic because it's cute, but good writing it is not.). DILF is a tad cliched, but I think it deserves its hype.

I know the secret doesn't refer to this because the plot is pretty clear-cut, but I hate Slipping Away. It's just World's Smallest Violin all the way through.

I immediately think of Reasonable to Assume, which is pretty much my favorite fic EVER, but the more I read it the more OOC and ridiculous it seems. I can't help it, though...for whatever reason, I love Teen Wolf fics with OC alpha characters.
