The anons here can get pretty trigger-happy. I've seen people dogpiled just for using the word "misogynistic," regardless of context, and it feels like the same sort of language policing that they accuse other people of doing.

I agree, some of the anti-SJWs are just as bad as some of the worst of the SJWs, and are somewhat hypocritical. Such as with the recent Lucy stuff. That ran far too close to bullying (particularly of one individual) for my liking. Rather ironic considering that bullying is something that the anti-SJWs (rightfully) criticise the SJWs for doing.

Yup, agreed. There's a lot of places where the SJWs are deserving of critique (as mentioned, bullying, and particularly bullying of people within the oppressed group they are supposedly trying to defend), but some of the anti-SJW is going too far.

In one corner you have people overreacting to dumb shit.

In the other corner you have people overreacting if you try to analyze anything in a way that might say "hey, some people are bigots."

It's really fucking annoying. At least a bunch of the SJWs might be worthwhile adults at some point after they graduate college. A lot of the anti-sjws are just plain horrible.

hmmmm not necessarily. anti sjw has a spectrum of people, you can dislike sjw while being for social justice and disagree with how they're going about it.

sjw by definition is the extreme end, so theyre not quite the same

Yup. I am all for social justice, but haaate the "warriors". The type of people who hate some one, like seriously loathe them and refuse to see anything else, for ONE BAD COMMENT. One. ONE. Possibly made YEARS ago. Something the person has apologized for and worked to make up for. SJWs cannot abide by anyone who isn't 100% perfect. They will eat their own the second they find out they aren't spotless. It's ridiculous.

Yeah, that doesn't seem to be how it works. It appears that anyone who gives a shit about sexism or racism is going to be defined as an "extremist" because racism is over, y'know, this one black guy experienced no racism so racism is done.

This. I actually dislike SJW's because they're HARMING the causes they claim to be fighting for (some of which are, in theory, good causes).

Completely agree with this.

Pretty much every self-proclaimed anti-SJW person I have seen on tumblr is overtly racist and call feminists cunts. Whenever anyone calls them out on it, they fall back on ad hominems, insulting the person's appearance or blog or whatever.

There's also this weird sort of wank ouroboros that I've seen from time to time where one anti-sj person finds a parody made by another anti-sj person and starts waving it around as an example of how horrible sj is.

My anguish in two sentences

A while back I seriously considered started a comm dedicated to balancing these two issues out - pursuing social justice, without it descending into vitriol or language policing in either direction. I mean, we should be able to call someone bigoted or their work problematic without having to punch everyone in the face for possibly being insensitive, right?

Personally, I dislike the phrase "Social Justice Warrior" because it illegitimatizes the feelings of people who actually are oppressed. Nowadays, it seems like when someone is making a legitimate argument, all you have to do is call someone a "stupid silly angry SJW" and their point becomes moot. I've seen people on here and tumblr bash on trans* people for having trans* headcanons on here, saying they're stupid and that they should always be tagged. I've seen people completely lambast POCs for drawing popular white characters (such as superheroes) as POC. And when they try to speak out, they're called a "stupid SJW ruining fandom."

If you say that you're headcanon is the only right headcanon, then, yeah, that's a problem, but I've seen people doing nothing wrong be harassed by self-proclaimed anti-SJWs.

That's because the stupid silly angry SJWs *are* ruining it for everyone else by literally being the strawmen people can point to. One of the major reasons I hate what they do is because they *do* make it harder for the rest of us to raise legitimate concerns by doing ridiculous shit.

This doesn't mean I'm going to go oppress people or yell at them for drawing characters as POC or something jfc. I am a POC. One that thinks all the yelling SJWs are doing for my sake is hurting me instead of helping.

Usually what I see (since this is a pet peeve) is people claiming to be queer(*) attacking other queer people because of definitions and theories that I never heard of before tumblr, and I've been out for almost 20 years now.

(*) often some flavor of pan- demi- or asexual saying that everyone else is doing it wrong.

I've seen pan people attack bisexual and gay people for being binarist and transphobic, and it's really upsetting. :/

That existed way before tumblr. It's what of the messed up things about Queer politics.

See: queer academics condemning gay people who want to get legally married because it's too heteronormative.

The major difference is 1. the tumblr kids are younger and 2. actually pay attention when this happens rather than shrugging and carrying on

As others have mentioned the problem is that with many people SJW has morphed from those that twist everything and anything to find something problematic to hate and wield against others, to someone the ever finds something problematic in some way and would like to see things improved.
