But he's way too young...? Yes the actors from the movie who were supposed to be the Marauder generation were all too old, but Cillian is still too young and he even looks younger than he is.

Which is why we should invent timetravel.

But wizards and witches don't seem to age like regular people do, so....

(Anonymous) 2013-09-13 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Actually he would've been really close to the right age. By the time OotP came out on film, he was 31, when Sirius was 36 at that point. The difference between 31 and 36 is negligible compared to the difference between 36 and 49, which was Gary Oldman's age at that point.

He would have been too young at the time they filmed though, right? Otherwise I can see it.

Sirius and Snape are supposed to be the same age. Cillian could have played Rickman's son by the time the third movie came out. He was so young looking. That would have been really odd.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Alan Rickman (and a bunch of other actors, for that matter) was too old for the role, though (awesome performance aside). Snape was supposed to be a thirty-something man - a very, very beaten by life thirty-something, but definitely younger than he looked in the films.

Casting Alan Rickman was the big mistake. He was almost twice the age Snape was supposed to be in the first film. If they'd gone age-appropriate in that casting they might've followed suit for the others...

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't really see it. But yeah, the casting of Sirius and Lupin didn't jive with me at all. Sirius should've been played by a male model!! /delu Sirius stan

[personal profile] gamma_orionis 2013-09-12 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I liked (and still do like) Gary Oldman as Sirius, but the guy who played Remus (whose name escapes me)... just didn't look anywhere near right to me :/ He did a fine job and all, but didn't suit Remus. In my opinion.

Secret 7 - Harry Potter, Cillian Murphy

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-12 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Cillian Murphy playing Dr. Jonathan Crane from the Nolan Batman trilogy. He has light olive skin, short wavy dark hair and white rimmed eyeglasses. He is wearing a suit. He is very attractive.]

I wish he had played Sirius Black.

I wholeheartedly support this description.

with make up to make him look older and wasted from Azkaban, sure!

No

No.... No. Bad OP. No.

I could see him as Snape... a younger version. I think he'd so some good sneering and work a black wig.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-13 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
If they had cast all of Snape's generation younger (which they certainly could have), he would have been amazing. Maybe it would have seemed OOC for Snape to be too conventionally attractive, though, all the Alan Rickman stans aside.

I like the way you think.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-13 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Wut. Even if he's odd-looking, he's way too good looking for Snape. Snape's supposed to be skinny and palid, and compared to dying plants and spiders, with a huge hooked nose. Murphy's got model-like bone structure going on.

He could act it, but there's lots of people who could play the part and look more suited.

And I think they should have cast David Tennant as Sirius Black, and I'm a huge fan of Cillian's. But not as Sirius.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-13 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
But Tennant was Crouch Jr.

Although he's insanely pretty, he's just too creepy looking to have played serious. And not in the shady 'don't run into this guy in a dark alley' way that Oldman looks creepy. In the 'I'm gonna tie you up in my basement and finger paint with your blood' kind of way, which is just the wrong kind of creepy for Sirius.

But, damn, if he's not pretty. Such a pretty pretty mouth. I wish I had a cock so I could...

He would have been 24 when the first film began shooting

(Anonymous) 2013-09-13 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone came out in 2001, it was cast and began filming in 2000. Cillian Murphy was born in 1976 (maybe when they reboot because you know that’s coming someday).

Here is a list of UK actors that seem more in the right age range:

b. 1962 (Ralph Fiennes was born this year)
Cary Elwes
John Hannah
Eddie Izzard
Craig Ferguson
Nathaniel Parker

b. 1963 (both Jason Issacs and David Thewlis were born this year)
Mark Strong
Brendan Coyle
Angus Macfadyen
Rupert Graves
Jason Connery
Philip Glenister

b. 1964
Clive Owen
James Purefoy
Christopher Eccleston
Mark Sheppard
Jake Weber
Sean Pertwee

b. 1965
Tommy Flanagan
Alan Cumming
Steve Coogan
Vinnie Jones
Dougray Scott
David O'Hara

b. 1966 (Helena Bonham Carter was born this year)
Jason Flemyng
Mark Gatiss
Dexter Fletcher

b. 1967 (Geraldine Somerville, who played Lily Potter, was born this year)
Jason Statham
Guy Pearce
John Barrowman
Rhys Ifans
Rufus Sewell
Henry Ian Cusick
Toby Jones (Dobby’s voice)
Tom Hollander
Steven Mackintosh

b. 1968
Daniel Craig
Luke Goss
Billy Boyd

And can I just say thank you, OP, for making me feel the need to look this up because the thought of John Barrowman as Sirius, Guy Pearce as Snape, Henry Ian Cusick as Remus, and Rufus Sewell as Pettigrew is kind of awesome. Or, hell, Cary Elwes as Sirius, Nathaniel Parker as Snape, John Hannah as Remus, and Eddie Izzard as Pettigrew.

Mark Strong was born in 1963. When I first saw him in Stardust, I thought he'd be a good Snape.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-13 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Oh damn, now you've given me my perfect Marauder era Sirius. Thank you, OP, you're awesome!
