I'll take a thousand Stephanie Meyers over this fucking bully. Hate her. I feel you, OP.

Anything that involves expressing, organizing and polishing your thoughts in order to convey them to someone else in the most felicitous way possible. So short stories, poetry, newspaper articles, book reviews, fanfic, essays, nonfiction, novels, plays--anything from a one-paragraph blurb in the newspaper to a seven-book fiction series to a mongraph about agricultural economics. On the other hand, I don't count posts on forums, or RP chat logs, or character profiles, which are basically just notes for yourself, like a to-do list. To me, the crucial part is that you are doing the work of expressing yourself in an organized way, as precisely and even gracefully as possible--the work of writing to be understood by someone else. (Including your future self.)

Same. I have this overwhelming urge to "save" all my followers.

Re: How many writers do we have here anyway?

Part of my job is writing industry articles - so yeah, I'm a 'published writer' who gets paid to produce words. I've also done srs bsns blogging in the past (not made money at it though) and may well do so again in the future.

Fictionwise, I mostly stick to fanfic. In a normal year I write about 75k of fiction and that would be like 90% fanfic. This year it's been way less due to being really busy with work - only about 20k so far. :/

Since you still talk to them, why don't bring this up to them? That way you get an explanation. It could be social anxiety, you don't know, so why not ask? An answer for their behavior would probably help things.

original person who disagreed with the "It'll happen someday" here -

You said everything I wanted to say, probably better than I would have done. Everything here, I agree with. Thanks.

You underestimate how many people hate her.

Re: AUs - Tell me about yours

[personal profile] tabaqui 2013-10-04 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Almost any post-apocalypse. I love them! I've written several. I also like AUs that slightly skew the world of canon. For instance - i wrote a Supernatural fic before there with angels with...angels, heh.

I do love the occasional silly, fluffy bakery or coffee shop or vet or whatever AU.

I haven't had much to say for like...two weeks. It makes me kind of sad. Either i'm totally disconnected from a lot of fandom, or i'm just being really lazy.

I like GC, though.

Re: Please!

Not at all. She did plagiarize with her fanfiction. Just because it wasn't official publishing doesn't mean it was a-okay. What pisses people off is that she never apologized, and to add insult to injury, she pulled her fanfic, rewrote it (without the stolen parts), and made loads of money off of it.

It's basically seeing someone become hugely successful by shady means. This kind of behaviour SHOULD be criticized. It's not "HP fanfic wank".

Do you mean published writer or non-published writer? I write, and have a ton of fic out there, but nothing published.

Re: writing WIPs

[personal profile] tabaqui 2013-10-04 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
I've done it. Mostly, i ignore the 'update soon!' stuff. By this, i mean, if i get a comment that says 'yay, loved this chapter! when will there be more?!!!!' I just say 'thank you, so glad you enjoyed!' and utterly ignore the update part.

Then if i post again before i have more of the story, i say something like 'chapter next up in a few days!' or whatever. I like to have my stuff out in a timely fashion, and haven't done a *lot* of WIP with big gaps or anything, but i don't have massive guilt or anything, either.

Re: How are you currently spoiling yourself? (Nonfandom, food, drink.)

[personal profile] fingalsanteater 2013-10-04 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, don't worry. I have been. :)

(Anonymous) 2013-10-04 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
That doesn't excuse her from saying 'thank you for paying for all my food and shit'

(Anonymous) 2013-10-04 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Because your size is never not relevant to your worth as a person, I guess.

Re: I wanna fall in love

(Anonymous) 2013-10-04 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
That was my issue for years. I was ridiculously horny and yet there was no one I wanted to actually fuck because I felt like I needed some level of trust for that. In the end I ended up having sex with a friend, when I realized he was someone I felt really comfortable with, and... well, he was totally up for it.

and that's not writing?

I write original fiction, but haven't ever been published.

From what I'm used to as a reader, bimonthly is fast. Very. The only WIP I'm reading at the moment updates about every 6 months.
starphotographs: I like him. He kind of looks and acts like one of my characters. (I did not know this when I started liking him!) (Victor (...>:|))

Booooo, such an interesting-looking Cecil version wasted on this bullshit. :/

You're in your late 20s and you've decided it 'won't ever happen'? I'd understand you saying that if you were 60 or even 50, but really? I figure most people seek relationships from about age 15 to at least age 65, so you are, at most, something like 25% of the way through your dating life. Saying it won't happen seems kinda silly.
