This x100. In fact, I'm very shy to the point where I sometimes come off as aloof or rude, so to compensate I go out of my way to be polite to people so they know I'm not intentionally being a dick.

Shyness doesn't equal rudeness. Not saying "thankyou" or offering to pay for some things (even though you have money) is just rudeness, imo.

I mostly like dick and pecs, but I'm open to vulvas and boobs. I like muscles and butts on anyone. I also like action movies, geeky debate, and video game marathons. Holla at me.

No, I think people hate on her because she's a shitty human being.

I found this new pizza place (the old one burned down, everybody was fine, but they didn't reopen) with the kind of New-York style pizza I like and twice now I've had two slices for dinner. Hell yeah it counts, that shit is good.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-04 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
it's alright, I know it's easy to jump to conclusions. u__u

I didn't know people use shyness as an excuse to get away with stuff until just now, that's kind of a crappy thing to do. But then again I've never encountered many people who claimed to be shy in the first place.

I can see that! :3

I agree, to an extent. Having social anxiety sucks, because you often know that you're coming off as standoffish or selfish without really knowing how to fix the behavior. My social anxiety once got so bad that I was forced to quit university because I was refusing to talk to anybody, even in class. That's how embarrassed I was that I would say something "wrong" in front of people. :(

With that being said, it bothers me that people (not you. I mean people in general) blame rude behavior on their anxiety. Having social anxiety =/= being an asshole. And tbh, it sounds like the OP's friend was more of an asshole than anything else. They expected OP to pay their way, and never once said thank-you or offered to pay for a single meal or ticket? That's just assholeish. Even the most socially anxious people know what politeness is. They might say "thankyou" at an awkward moment, but they still know how to say it.

As far as I'm concerned, there's no excuse for a lack of politeness.

Oh, and one more thing, which I suspect you'll disagree with: actual writing requires that you finish something now and then. People who never finish anything (like me) are not writers; we are playing at writing.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-04 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Can't agree. If you never finish a damn thing, you do not get to call yourself a "real writer." You are playing at writing. There's a difference.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-04 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
I know I know, it's sometimes hard NOT to compare oneself to other writers but at the end of the day her life has nothing to do with yours. Her being famous has zero effect on you or your work. Let it the fuck go.

I've been differing fairly strenuously with you on this thread, but this is something I absolutely agree with. I hope OP is prepared to take it to heart.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-04 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
I think the difference here is that the OP has done (and spent) a lot to accommodate this friend. If the friend can go to museums, dinners, movie nights, etc. then there's no reason they can't say a simple "thankyou" or even "I feel bad that you're paying so much for me, do you want me to pay for this ticket?"

Never found anyone attractive enough that I'd want to do them. Plenty of people I could look at for quite a while and not get bored, just never to the point of arousal. Best I've ever managed is "if for some reason they really needed to screw someone and chose me, I guess I would let them", but this has only happened twice and with people who are famous, married, and presently dead.

Re: How many writers do we have here anyway?

(Anonymous) 2013-10-04 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
*raises hand* Writer here as well, just too damn lazy to log in.

I've done everything from writing a textbook, to copy editing for an insurance company, to actual short stories that I just haven't shopped around for publishers yet.

My sister and I have a few shared world media things, and we plan to push them through the internet once we get out shit straightened.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-04 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
The problem with giving the "friend" the benefit of the doubt is that it placates them, but leaves the OP feeling like shit. The OP has every right to be upset about being used like this, and to ask the friend why they behaved the way they did.

Maybe the friend didn't realize they were being an ass, or maybe they did. But IMO there is no excuse for rudeness, and chalking it up to POSSIBLE social anxiety just puts all the blame on the anxiety and not the person themselves. Having anxiety does not excuse dickish behavior.
starphotographs: This field is just more space for me to ramble and will never be used correctly. I am okay with this! (Ginko (default))

[personal profile] starphotographs 2013-10-04 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, I guess that was hyperbole. The basic point was that there are people who can't really write who crank out page after page of crap, and people who can who finish far fewer things than they start.

...Which isn't much of a point, really. :P Carry on.

Me! I write fanfiction mostly, but my thesis is out there along with a few technical papers, and I've been published in a few community college literary magazines before (not that that's hard.) :D

No, I've been following them since they first broke, with that one guy's Instagram. Just posting it now, since people are really getting further into the game.

And yeah, it's not a HUGE amount, but the starters in particular are giving me a bit of pause since Nintendo explicitly asked reviewers not to reveal them until the 12th, even if the review embargo ends tomorrow. It's nothing critical, but just... I do know people want to avoid ANY spoilers.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-04 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Shut up shut up SHUT UP. I am so sick of you and the other circlejerk asswipes it's not even funny anymore.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-04 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
You and the other anon need to grow up, sweetheart.

Re: writing WIPs

(Anonymous) 2013-10-04 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
I've written six or seven WIPs, and I always, always regret posting them in chunks, because two thirds of the comments will be "update soon" and "moar please!" Sometimes I just wanted to hear specific feedback on that chapter, and boohoo, it didn't happen. I don't really write WIPs anymore.

I generally posted once a week when I had the entire thing written, or once every couple weeks when I was in the process of writing it. My chapters were usually 3000+ words, so a couple weeks gave me enough time to write them and get them beta'd.

Snerk.

They'd have to take down the entirety of 4chan to stop it, honestly. And even if they closed /vp/, people would still flock to /v/ and stuff.

Just looking at the /vp/ front page right now, out of fifteen posts, ten show leaks. ...And oh wow, that one actually was true. Huh. Strange.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-04 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, I think a lot of people just have a plagiarism button. She plagiarized once (several hundred times) and then she was an ass about it--fandom holds grudges for a long time, especially when it comes to writing.

I wanna have sex, but I don't find anyone physically attractive. :/
