That seems like the standard opinion so far. Shield=not too impressed, Sleepy Hollow=happy surprise.

Agreed. SHIELD is getting dogpiled with criticisms due its bland characters and been there, done that plots. While Sleepy Hollow has been just growing a huge following because of the interesting characters and WTF plot line. (I can't wait to see how the turn out will be at 2014's Comic Con panel.) And that has come as a shock to most people. Myself, included, who was ready to dismiss Sleepy Hollow as a so bad, it's good cheese fest of a show but ended up being completely invested with everything about it. While I was also ready to adore SHIELD but it's turning out to be a chore to sit through an episode even while I am watching it on Hulu and doing other things at the same time. (Unfortunately, the ratings feel the same.)

This is almost everyone's opinion, though. Everyone I've talked to and all the comments here suggest love for Sleepy Hollow and either disappointment or apathy for AoS.

This seems to be how most people feel.

Personally I enjoy both shows but Sleepy Hollow is the one I look forward to every week.

Like everyone else said, that seems to be most people's opinions.

I don't love SHIELD, but I do like it, and I absolutely love Sleepy Hollow.

Transcription

Agents of Shield: I absolutely hated this show. Bland characters, blatant Mary Sues, obvious racial undertones, bad CGI, the whole thing looked like a movie they smooshed into a half hour pilot.

Sleepy Hollow: I LOVED this show. It's awesome, funny, scary, the relationship between the two leads is believable...

S!B Everyone loves Whedon and thinks Sleepy Hollow is just a flash in the pan.

There ya go.

Where oh where has Transcript Anon gone?

And who are the people who think SH is a flash in the pan? While I enjoy AOS, SH is the far superior show.

When you say it looked like a movie smooshed into an hour, that piques my interest. I love aesthetically pleasing shit.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-10 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Sleepy Hollow too. I wish it came on like 3 times a week.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-11 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
I like both. It's not like they're competing shows.

They're very different shows, so I'm not sure why people keep pitting them against each other.

AoS is alright, I enjoy watching it but I don't think it's amazing TV. SH on the other hand I couldn't get past the first episode, not because of the writing(even though the horseman being Death thing is silly as hell) but because mirror-demon freaked me out too much. I haven't dared to watch another episode yet, which does make me sad because I adore Abbie.

Yup. Sleepy Hollow is *so* fun. The leads are awesome to watch, i actually give a damn about them, the story is cracktastic and hey, accent!

I watched the first two eps of SHIELD and just...couldn't make myself watch more. Meh.

Apparently people love Sleepy Hollow because it got renewed for a 2nd season after the second episode. And the fandom blossomed overnight. I love it.

Never had any intention of watching Shield, I think if you're going to do something inspired by superhero comics you have to go all out and do superheros.

Can we not use the term Mary Sue for it though? It's old and usually untrue.

I don't hate S.H.I.E.L.D, but I do find it pretty tepid (a huge disappointment as I love MCU). Sleepy Hollow on the other hand? Is an absolute blast, and so fun and refreshing.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-11 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Opposite.

Wanted to like Sleepy Hollow, especially with the cast. But it felt terribly old hat horror trope.

SHIELD is everything I'd hoped and more. Funny and not too grim.

Didn't we pass peak Joss hate/love/hate/love somewhere between Firefly and Dollhouse?

On a different note, I suspect that Sleepy Hollow is the closest thing we're going to get to a show about Robert Anton Wilson's work: throw history, conspiracy theory, and occultism into a blender and make a smoothie out of it.

(Hoping for Washington with a mason ring and schnauzer.)
