I'm not sure what you mean by 'U.S. patriotism.' Can you please elaborate?

Personally, I just wave my flag, eat my hotdog, and roll my eyes at anyone who says anything bad about my country.

Trouble is, most people say the first set without mentioning the second. Or they act like we're the worst plague to hit the earth since Moses and the Pharaoh squared off. Either way, I feel justified in ignoring a good chunk of the criticism leveled at my country.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-01 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)As opposed to someone who is patriotic.
It's how much they make it part of their public identity I guess

(Anonymous) 2013-12-01 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)Yes yes exactly! And the distinction between "US Patriotism" vs "someone who is patriotic" is what I'm talking about.

I strongly suspect that's how it goes in most places. Which means the 'freedom fries' crowd isn't a good example of American patriotism.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-02 12:58 am (UTC)(link)When pointed out, they'll say, "No, no! That's not really what we're like! It's just the loud, obnoxious ones."
But they'll gladly point out the loud, obnoxious ones of a group they don't like and say, "See, see how all those people act there?"

(Anonymous) 2013-12-01 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)The town I grew up in had a large vocal crowd that was the OTT sort of aggressive patriotism too. Same for the town I went to college in. Maybe I'm just unlucky and those types flock to me, and you've been lucky to avoid it.

Do these people really exist though. Really.

Like hey world. That never caught on. That was never a thing.
It didn't. HAPPEN.

IDK it was a thing in some pockets but it didn't catch on so I'm not sure if I'm agreeing or disagreeing...
no subject
For the record, where I am it was not a thing that existed at all.
*I am of course joking, people do this all the time
