Creepy people?

(Anonymous) 2013-12-07 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
What's the creepiest interaction you've ever had with someone? It can count as anything you find creepy, like them having an obsession with you, them stalking you, them turning out to be a serial killer, etc.

One time this dude stopped me in the corridor at work to compliment my shirt and then proceeded to tell me how about how him and his young platonic!! female friend stopped the Mayan Apocalypse. He was completely serious and took me to his desk to show me pictures. It wasn't so much creepy as it was unbelievably weird. People don't really approach me or talk to me first, so that added a level of weirdness just because I'm not used to people noticing me.

He was mainlining Harry Dresden? (I think I remember that happening in a Harry Dresden book, at least.)

I'm the daughter of a well-known SF writer. (I don't like to say who on the general internets, but I'll say who if you PM me.) Anyway at a convention when I was about 13 and my sister was 17, some guy read our badges and asked if we were indeed related to [our parent]. We said yes. And then he goes, "Can I touch you??" WTF no! We basically ran away. Creeper. :\

I used to have a coworker who would flirt and hit on me constantly despite the fact he was at least 20 years older than me and married. I haven't been that level of uncomfortable in any other situation.

This is the first one that comes to mind:

I'm at a club with a friend, watching another friend's band. We're talking, and I turn my head the other direction, and there's this guy *right* in my face. Like, seriously less than a foot between our faces. And it's not a crowded club or anything, it's a half-empty dive bar on local music night. He's just staring at me. So I startle a bit, and when he says hi, I go "hi?", poke at my friend, and we move elsewhere. He kept kind of staring at us for the rest of the set, but thankfully never approached us again.

A guy stopped me on the street one day to tell me I'm pretty and ask me where I live and other personal questions. I was trying to be polite because he was making me nervous and I didn't know how he would react if I was rude.

a few years ago my next-door neighbour, when driving by, saw me drawing with sidewalk chalk and stopped his truck to talk. he asked about my dad and I said something along the lines of "uhh...he died last year." he offered his condolences and apologized for not knowing and whatnot, which was all fine (though pretty awkward). later, when I was walking my dog, I noticed the man walking (pretty far) behind me. I assumed he was just taking a walk and didn't care until I noticed he was still behind me after taking some pretty out-of-the-way turns. the next day the same thing happened, so I told my mum and we bought some pepper spray, but couldn't really prove anything was going on. it went on for a couple more days until one day, feeling angry and scared, I stopped with my dog and turned around to stare at him with what I hope was something of a firm expression. he slowed down considerably. I quietly said to my dog (who was very friendly, very short, not at all intimidating, and also not great at following commands) and said, "Gordon, bark." I don't know how on earth he knew what I was saying but he starting barking his head off. the man quickly took a turn and I haven't seen him at all in the few years since.

keep in mind that I would have been 15 or so at the time, and this was a 45-50 year old man who we'd lived next door to for years. since my home state/town is such a safe place usually, I didn't think anything of telling him about my dad. pretty creepy.

I had one guy try to follow me home once, I called a friend and got her to meet me and when I was no longer alone he disappeared pretty quick.

once when wearing lolita in Japan an older man asked me if I was wearing snoopy underwear, and when I laughed nervously and tried to walk away he grabbed my skirt and tried to look under it :\

There was this family friend of ours whom we sometimes chatted to, played with, etc. I've never particularly liked him or any member of his family, but he was a part of the friendly adult circle, and I was okay with him being there.

Half a year ago his wife went missing, and then it turned out that he quarrelled with her, strangled her, cut her into pieces, and kept her body in a basin on the balcony of the very flat they lived in with their three kids. The body remained there for ten days.

This was the moment I realized that groups of people are never to be trusted, and that the word 'friend' has no plural form. It is a sum of individuals, but never an integral group.

holy fuck.

That reminds me of the story I heard probably about six years ago about a man in Mexico who murdered his girlfriend, and then cut her up into pieces, put them in the refrigerator/freezer, and ate them - taking them out, frying them, and eating them.

Probably the guy back in the local BBS days whose crush was the victim of a very violent crime, she was like 16 when she was raped and murdered... for obvious reasons, he was really upset and became suicidal, and I spent a lot of nights talking him down.

After which he decided I was his new crush and ... basically started acting like he couldn't live without ME now. I was not interested in him that way at all, I just was willing to spend time with him because I was worried that he was going to hurt himself, and most of the other BBSers were like "Oh there he goes again *rolls eyes*" after awhile.

He never quite got to the point of actively stalking me or making threats beyond killing himself if I wouldn't be his girlfriend, but there was always some concern it might get worse.

i live in a heavily-populated city so i'm actually straining to think of the creepiest interaction. the creepiest is probably not something fs general comments section level appropriate as i am scarred by it forever. but anyway.

another that comes to mind is this time i was studying at a cafe. right when i sat down, the woman next to me started yelling homophobic slurs in my direction and told me i was "the fucking devil." then, 5 seconds later, (like absolutely NOTHING WEIRD HAPPENED) she told me she liked my hair and continued drinking her coffee and smiling, said nothing else to me and was perfectly pleasant the rest of the time.

Two come to mind.

The first one I thought of was this guy who hung out with a circle of friends I spent a lot of time with one summer who I met through local YGO duels at the card shop I sometimes go to at home. We had a running joke about a "soap opera" with a web of convoluted relationships some of which made no sense, and part of the joke was that I was "married" to one of the guys and his (actual) wife was "married" to a different person. I said something snarky to him once and he said "that's no way to treat your husband!" in a mock-stern voice and this other guy who also gave me weird vibes said "what? you're married??" and we laughed and clarified that it was joke and the other guy was like "Good. Raichu's mine."

And I was like wtf???? I barely know you and I don't belong to anyone.

When we had another get together, a picnic, I was hanging out with another guy friend in the group a lot and this other creepy guy was telling people that he was jealous of the other friend for spending time with me. (and there was nothing going on between us at all.)

The other story was one from a job I had a few summers ago. I was friendly with the grill cook (I was a cashier) and work was slow/boring during the day so we chatted a lot. He added me on Facebook. I'm like w/e, I add just about anyone I know. Then he asked me if I wanted to get lunch sometime, in the middle of another conversation. At the time I was 20 or 21, and he was 35. I was really creeped out (I really dislike age gaps like that) and barely knew him so I was like hell no. He started talking to me a lot less.

The kicker was that I talked to some other co-workers later in the summer and they said he was married. He hadn't even mentioned it to me.

(The second story was more wtf than creepy I guess)

A long time ago, there was this student from another department who liked to use the public computers in the building where I work. It was winter, and he wasn't used to our winters, so I commiserated with him, and that's how we started talking. We kept running into each other, and he seemed pleasant enough--until he stepped in close to me one day and began asking me where I had got my scarf, and was it warm, and before I knew it he was petting the fucking scarf--which of course meant putting his hand on my chest. I mean, I was wearing a heavy winter coat, not some thin shirt, but still. I stepped back quickly--and he followed me and moved in as close as before. So I said I needed to catch my bus--and he insisted on accompanying me to the bus stop "because it's dangerous for a girl alone after dark."

"No, you don't need to do that, it's about 10 degrees out." (About -12 C) He insists, practically stepping on my heels in his pursuit. Now I'm wondering "How can I get rid of this guy without being hugely rude? And what will he do if I am?" (Shouldn't have worried about being rude!) And without warning he starts asking me shit like am I a virgin, and if I don't have a boyfriend what do I do about my sexual urges, do I masturbate...? Thank God for the bus. I was afraid he'd get on with me, and then what would I have done.

For the rest of the semester I wore a different coat and scarf, did my hair differently so he wouldn't be able to pick me out in a crowd, and came in and out of the building at different times so I wouldn't meet him.

I was waiting for a train after uni one day and there was an older guy chatting up girls further down the platform, complete with trying to talk them into giving him their number and coming along with him. I think I saw him talking to three different ones - all, I'd say, varying in attractivness but all of them with blond hair. It was pretty obvious - among them was a girl I knew from my classes. The train came, I got on, the guy, apparently, did as well. Now, I'm not really attractive, but I'm blonde, so as I thought, not even half a minute after getting on the train, he came over to me as well. I told him no, I'm not going with you, no I'm not giving you my number - he was pretty pushy, but in the end, he gave up and went to the next blonde girl.
No clue if he just had a type and was desperate for a date or if he was "recruiting" a certain type for shit, but his way of asking things and his disregard for personal space were really creepy.

I guess I give off too much of a fuck-off vibe because none of my stories would be as good as these. I'm pretty sure some dude followed me around the block and when I went to tim Hortons, some old dude wanted my number and I said fuck no, some guy grabbed my arm in the bus and I gave him a look of pure murder. For his sake, at least it wasn't something else he grabbed.
