you again? everyone's just going to say the same thing they did the past six times we had almost the same secret

(Anonymous) 2014-01-04 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
I have never seen this secret before in my life.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-04 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
F!S likes to think that people with the same type of secrets are all the same person.

yaaaaaaaay (sometimes I hate this fandom)

Well for me, I knew there was no going back in my hatred of Walt when he sexually assaulted his wife.

But you know. I guess everyone has different lines for characters to cross.

For some people, it's poisoning children. For others it might be letting a woman die so that a character can continue to manipulate and control her boyfriend.

But apparently, the line is somewhere past that for you.

When did he rape Skyler? When he tried having sex with her, she said no and he STOPPED?

I didn't say rape.

I said sexual assault.

Which is what that was.

I wouldn't say that things were seeming very consensual in the first half of s5 when he was knowingly terrifying Skyler and she couldn't keep him out of her bed.

The line for me would be if Walt were to kill a family member in cold blood. Like if he tried to kill Hank. Conversely, Walt was willing to give away everything he had to save him, even though Hank was a huge threat to him.

Why is it worse if it's a family member?

I'm not trying to be a dick, it's something I truly don't understand about our culture. And, incidentally, something I love about BrBa; Walter justifies all the horrible shit that he does because it's for his family, but that doesn't make it less horrible, and Andrea and Jane's family is no less important IMO.

The whole "poisoned a small, innocent child" thing is what turned Walt into a full-blown villain in my eyes. How anyone can root for him is beyond me.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-04 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
He did it to save his family from a murderous drug kingpin. The kid was fine.

I don't particularly like Walt and I love Skyler. But he never sexually assaulted, wtf are you talking about

(Anonymous) 2014-01-04 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty sure they're referring to the scene in the kitchen after he escaped from Tuco, Skyler ending up hitting her head on the fridge before she could get him off.

Either that or it was the super creepy scene in bed during the first half of s5, although apparently she managed to appease him with a handjob in a deleted scene.

I think you'll find there are plenty of people who are happy to agree with you that Walt's just a good guy trying to protect his family. That Jesse was lucky to have such a smart father figure looking out for him, and that Skyler married a winner and her only problem is she's just a bitch, and that Walter Jr. just doesn't appreciate how badass his dad is.

There are lots and lots of people out there who agree with you.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-04 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
So there's no middle ground with you?

Oh me? I think Walt is a complicated, interesting character, but ultimately no less monstrous for that complexity.

I think a lot of people have trouble separating "bad person, exists, do not want" from "bad person, fictional, it's okay to like made-up bad people sometimes."

I mean, I think he did a lot of terrible shit, and trying to excuse any of it makes you look dumb. And like you're majorly missing the point to boot. But he was well-written and tragic and had some awesome glimmers of basic decency (like the stuff you listed) in the midst of all the seriously fucked-up stuff, so I like him as an interesting fictional person.

Every neckbeard on breaking bad forums agrees with you so it's not like you're alone on this

(Anonymous) 2014-01-04 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Neckbeard's the go-to term nowadays for people whose opinions you don't share, isn't it?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-04 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
DA

Neckbeard, dudebro, niceguy, take your pick.

Many, many Walt-apologists (thought perhaps not you?) couch their defenses of the man in sickening misogyny. These fine, upstanding gentlemen do start to blur together after awhile.

Secret 10 - Breaking Bad (warning for SPOILERS)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2014-01-04 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
spoilers for Breaking Bad series ending

[Picture is Jesse Pinkman, as portrayed by Aaron Paul, and Walter White, as portrayed by Bryan Cranston, from the TV series Breaking Bad. They are standing near each other, having what looks like a heavy conversation.]

Before I started Breaking Bad, I was told that I would hate Walt.

Having finished the end of the series, where Walt saved Jesse, avenged Hank and ensured that his family would be taken care of, I'm wondering when that will happen.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-04 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
I never loathed him, but I did disconnect emotionally during the first half of s5 and just when he was starting to seem human again he gave the order for Jesse to be tortured and killed. My love for Jesse had to win out in the situation, fuck you Walt :|

(Anonymous) 2014-01-10 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
I saw Walt's actions at the end of season 5 as cleaning up some of the mess he had made, not as redemption. It was too little, too late.
