yeah tbh the rest of the song is "meh" to me too. it's not BAD, i just think it's kinda bland and generic-sounding. i like the feeling behind it and i like WHY the song happened and i love elsa and idina herself isn't bad (a bit whiny/nasally-sounding but whatever i like that sometimes) but... all together this song fell SO flat with me. i do not get why everyone is shitting themselves over it.

Hmm. You know, as corny as I thought the song was, I think keeping it slow and having it grow to be grandoise and not the pop struggle singing we got would have been more fitting with Elsa's character. She can be regal and relaxed. Wow, so many choices this movie made seem sensible on paper but out of synch on the screen.

This means that you normally prefer sad songs over merry ones just as approximately a bazillion other people do.

lol, I'm the opposite. I like the grandiose musical part of it, especially at the end. Mostly because I felt that Disney was finally going back to creating those epic visual scenes that I love so much.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-05 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Ditto! Frozen was good at this in general. It's not for everyone, obviously, but I love it.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-05 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, I loved this song so much, and it made me cry in the movie theater. I think it was her relief and joy at finally being free to be herself - that might sound cheesy, but my head!canon was that Elsa was a lesbian like me, so being free of society that thinks you're a monster and a family that constricts who you are, and being able to be yourself meant a lot to me. I cannot wait to karaoke this song. haha..

(Anonymous) 2014-01-05 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Why do people all over the internet keep assuming or projecting that Elsa is a lesbian? I mean, that's fine, make up whatever you want since she has no romantic plotline (and honestly the pretty would be off the charts if they gave her a gf) but it kind of baffles me how this is suddenly A Thing.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-05 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
there is a direct parallel to both being in the closet and being outed

there are a number of things this can parallel and one of them is being gay

it's really not that confusing

Maybe more people are willing to admit their headcanon. It's not like it's a big deal. We're all very, very aware that such a thing would never be canon.

I'm moved by the chorus but oh that dark and thrilling opening. Yeah. (Minor key songs forever!)

Secret 1 - Frozen (2013 animated film)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2014-01-05 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Elsa, from the CGI movie "Frozen", standing outdoors somewhere covered in snow during nighttime. She is wearing a turquoise dress,a purple cape and a silver tiara. She looks anguished. She is a young woman with light skin andlong blond hair collected in an elaborate hairdo with braids.]

I liked the beginning segment of this song a lot better than the rest of it. I'm desperate for an alternate version with just the melancholy tone.

I'm pretty sure this means I missed the point.

If you want to reference it, this shot is from the beginning of Elsa's big song 'Let It Go,' which is of course the song the secret is about.

Do you mean something like this, OP?

(Not OP)

No, because it doesn't have that dark minor-key feeling.

I think I heard a creepypasta version somewhere.

I quite liked the song, it mostly stood out to me though as it's been so long since a disney song caught my attention then this movie had 2. *grudging appreciation*
Especially where it went very loud and dramatic.

Not sure how I felt about her new outfit though...granted it was pretty cool

(Anonymous) 2014-01-05 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
OT- This song and the little 'reindeers are better than people' ditty are the only music I liked in the whole movie. In general I think the music for all the latest disney movies have been disappointing. There are really no songs for you to sing a long with like there were with the disney renaissance movies.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-05 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I liked "Do You Want to Build a Snowman" but only when paired with the reprise that was written by not performed or included in the movie (someone sang it and put it on youtube, and I think it makes the song much stronger.)

That said, I hate the fixer-upper song. So, YMMV.

I still don't get the point of the song.

[personal profile] nyxelestia 2014-01-05 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, it's a great song, both in terms of music and the graphics of the scene. But, like, half the point of the song was undermined by the rest of the movie. She finally lets go of all her constraints and ends up nearly throwing her kingdom into an eternal winter. The general theme of not cutting herself off from her emotions, I understand, but otherwise...meh. I can't be inspired by her whole 'letting go' montage when I know what resulted from it.

Re: I still don't get the point of the song.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-06 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
+1 to this.

Re: I still don't get the point of the song.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-06 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
What resulted wasn't caused by letting go, it was caused by letting go after having kept everything completely bottled up for so long that she didn't know how to function. She should have been allowed to "let go" all along. If she had, disaster would probably have been averted and it wouldn't have been so jarring to everyone else.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-06 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
I like the song as is but I kind of wish she had gotten a melancholy song as well. I think it would have been nice to have a song entirely dedicated to how she felt when she was isolated, and Elsa really needed more screentime in the movie.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-06 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno, I think there's a melancholy thread all throughout the song, for all of its exuberance. They do this amazing job with her facial expressions, these little subtle twitches that go from the "Yes, I'm okay!" smile to something that looks more like a person about to cry. It's not just an "I'm becoming" song, it's a song about the worst thing happening and deciding, "Well...eff it, then."

(Also, it turns out, most of her power statements aren't 100% true. She doesn't stay there, she does go back, presumably she does also go back to a life of right and wrong, with rules, just redefined.)

(Anonymous) 2014-01-07 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
I like this song, but my god Menzel is very pitch-y and it sounds like the song's high notes is outside of her normal register. I wish a soprano who can hit the notes well can do the song justice. Maybe it's the whole stage/studio difference and it's not translating well. I had to listen to the song a few times to start ignoring the screechiness on those high notes.
